My logic stems from the fact that as seeing that Cedar Fair has neglected to maintain Flight Deck well ever since they acquired it from Paramount in 2007. And as it seems that Son of Beast will soon meet its untimely demise, it could be a great chance for the park to take out two birdies with one stone and come out with an eagle.

CF also saved FoF at KD from being moved to another park after the purchase in 2006. They had the opportunity of continuing Paramount's direction, yet, chose to put the money in and open the ride back up. Sure one ride has nothing to do with the other, but the point I am trying to make is: CF is spending money where it is needed most- i.e. reopening a closed ride. FD is still operating. Sure it needs a paint job, but, the ride is also not a big eyesore given it's location.

Also- I highly doubt a concrete decision for SoB has been made. Given your theory, that decision is done and it is combined with a decision for FD. Given the timeline of SoB's issues, I seriously doubt FD's status has anything to do with SoB.

And just because FD has not had a paint job puts it into the "neglect to maintain" catagory? Really?

I really hope that FD is staying put. It is such an under rated ride. Please CF and KI slap a coat of paint on it and let it keep providing thrills for many years.

While I agree that FD needs new paint, lets not forget that the ride isn't visible from the midway at all, so it is likely lower on the list than other, more visible projects.

From what I have observed every decision that takes place is all about the money. When the time comes in which Flight Deck is costing more to operate (staff, maintenance, etc.) than park officials feel it is adding to the overall profit of the park or when it is felt that something else on that piece of land could yield more profit then there will be no more Flight Deck. As long as it is felt Flight Deck is adding to the financial success of Kings Island, it will stay. Just my opinion. smile.gif

Does this work for CEO's? Just a Q.

Yikes. IMO there's a difference between "Needs a new paint job" (Racer, Vortex in 2001) and "Currently corroding and rotting to death".

Don't you mean rusting, and not rotting? Either way, it looks horrible.

Speaking of paint, is KI just going to let the paint on The Racer wear out, and not repaint it?

Remember that Flight Deck (As Top Gun) originally had RED track paint. When repainted silver (Ugh, thank you Tim Fisher) the red was not removed, rather simply painted over.

That underying corrosion or rust... is likely less rust and more old red paint.

Quick question to those of you much older than me. What were the old effects of the queue/ride? I recall seeing warning signs about smoke lightning and all that, and it looked like the queue went under the station and had effects. Of course now that is all gone. Any of you want to tell me what these effects were?

you walked under the station and it had props that looked like it came from the movie. they also played music from the movie... it gave the feel you were getting ready to intercept russians flying too close.... if you have seen the movie you know what im talking about hehe

I do not think you will see the death of this ride anytime soon. However it is my opinion it should. It is way back out of the way, I believe it is outdated. The seats are very uncomfortable. And quite frankly it is boring. I do know that a lot of people enjoy it.

Have you taken a 1-1 ride? I am always a back seat type of rider, but on FD this is where I want to ride.

FD is a great "tweener" coaster as it is in between WE and the larger coasters from the "thrills" aspect.

My daughters love it, and, there is nothing better as a dad than watching your daughter come off a coaster saying "Daddy I want to do it again!" smile.gif
