Cormaster
So after yesturdays trip a couple things I've decided are #1 I'm sick of the $2 charge to ride Firehawk. I'd like to just be able to get in-line and not worry about my stuff #2. I'm sick of having to avoid water rides on hot days because I don't wanna ruin my cell phone, keyless entry keyfob, or important stuff in my wallet The solution: A special pair of shorts. I'm thinking something with zipper pockets that are somewhat water resistant. something where I wouldn't have to worry about my stuff flying out of my pocket on Firehawk, and also I ciould get on Congo Falls or White water Canyon without worrying about the stuff in my pockets taking water damage. Any Suggestions? The whole shorts don't have to be water resistant just the pocket area. Maybe a special pair of swim trunks?
bravo4460
def buy some khaki shorts with the zippers or buttons! they hold alot of things in and if you buy heavy ones they will get wet but still your cell phone should be fine the pants will soak up the water lol. Diamondback96
1. There is no $2 charge to ride Firehawk. Do you really think the line would be that long if it did? I would recommend wearing cargo shorts, and putting all of your important stuff in a Ziplok bag and putting it in a buttoned or zippered pocket. stephatron
What I do for my cell phone and other things that aren't water friendly is to get zipper shorts but place your things in a ziploc baggie. They work really well and are super cheap! That was the only thing that saved my phone when I went on Splash Mountain at Disneyland a couple of years ago! But, I would also advise zipper shorts as well. That way, nothing falls out that isn't supposed to. Hope this helps!

The Interpreter
A phone is SUPPOSED to fall out? Now my head doth hurt!
bravo4460
well its seems as if they are suppose to! look at the phones in Diamondback line last year! (well pictures i dont think you can go in the past)
The Interpreter
There are many, many reasons I don't take cellphones to parks. That is only one of them...the benefits (for me) are far outweighed by the detriments. That all being said, I am a firm believer in cargo pants... I'm referring to the locker... unlike other rides, they don't have bins. Never made much sense to me.
The Interpreter
The ride already has one of the slowest dispatch times in the park...as it is very complicated to load...it does not need the added downtime of guests going to bins to drop off stuff and pick it up after riding.... I have never used a locker in a park, unless others have asked me to share theirs. I just don't take stuff in parks that needs to be lockered. Problem solved. Cormaster
I've actually found if you have regular pockets, however you will loose whatever you ride on Firehawk as the style it of coaster it is. One time I lost my locker key... yeah that sucked. I got a locker, had nothing in my pocket but the key, and after riding the ride, the key was gone. I had to run around to a bunch of ki staff to get maintenance to come out and get the locker open. EDIT speaking of Firehawk I'm actually starting to loose some interest in the ride between long ride waits and breakdowns. It broke down yesturday...seems it does at least once a day. I think the rides awesome, no doubt, but its not worth all the hoops you gotta go through to ride it. Also I'm not sure if they do it this year, but in years past they load the thing so inefficiently... I've watched them, they'll wait til both trains are in the station then launch one, and when one comes back they launch the other... A friend from work went and said he was completely unimpressed with it, and he got sunburnt and a headache waiting for it. I can see where he's coming from. chaddie
Sam's Club had perfect shorts about two weeks ago. Cargo w/zippers.
Purplehaze
I use good Ziplock baggies to keep everything dry.
hamoperator
They make a small fanny pack (black about 4x4x2) has it's own belt attached; it's waterproof and holds passes, keys, a cell phone and some cash. My wife got it at a hiking store. After loosing my cell phone on Raptar 2 seasons ago and watching a supervisor climb out on the drop grate to retrieve it at 10:15. It was worth getting. bkroz
I just go to Universal Orlando and use their lockers, which are free for the duration of your ride at any and all attractions which cannot accomodate carry-on items. Of course, the plane ride sort of balances things out, so I say just pay the $2.00 for a locker, or the $20.00 for cargo shorts. Or, as was said, don't bring things into the park! I know it would be different if you needed to contact a parent or friend to pick you up, but there's honestly no need to bring in cell phones or iPods if even one person in the group has one. Lakota88
. . .I would recommend wearing cargo shorts, and putting all of your important stuff in a Ziplok bag and putting it in a buttoned or zippered pocket. That is my plan for my trip. I might leave my cell phone in my car but since it will be my daughter's first trip to KI I can't leave my mini video cam behind. It will fit nicely in a Ziploc in a velcro pocket in my cargo shorts.
Hank
I bought 2 fanny packs on Ebay a couple of years ago - 99 cents each plus $2.50 shipping for both. They are leather but are water proof and they hold tons of stuff. It only took a few days to receive them. Just search Ebay and I'm sure you'll find them. buckeyemaniac
At WWC you can leave your stuff in the station. We have shelves. Unfortunately, at the other rides, I see your dilemma.
bkroz
In many ways, Firehawk does come across as pay-per-ride attraction... If a group brings a bookbag, they have no choice but to pay or have a party-member not ride... So if everyone wants to ride, they must pay. And if you're the one who isn't riding to hold the bag, you have not only the duration of the ride to wait, but also the hour or so that your friends will be in line. KI FANATIC 37
I bought cargo shorts w/ buttons, then got an extra button in the middle. My phone, wallet, and all my diabetic supplies never fall out. Now about the water resistance, I don't know about that. Best I can tell you is a baggy.....
EssentiallyCoaster
^ I have shorts with two buttons and I think my phone would fall out so I don't bring it. Great idea adding a third button I may have to try that out!
XGatorHead 8904
I have several pairs of shorts that are very comfy, but unfortunately they don't have zippered/buttoned pockets. I've been wearing them to parks for years, and have just been very careful on rides. I typically just have my wallet and phone in my pockets. However this year I decided to stop chancing losing anything. I went to Joann Fabrics and got some iron-on velcro, and put that along the edge of the inside of the pockets. So far I've only done it to one pair, but it has worked great on my two visits to the park since then. I'm going to be doing it to a couple other pairs before this weekend. As for water proof, I always bring a ziploc bag to put things in. Yesterday I forgot to grab one before I went to work (I was going to the park straight from there), but luckily I had a Cedar Fair plastic bag in my desk drawer so I just used that to protect my phone from the rain! Cormaster
My wife picked me up a pair of Old Navy Cargo shorts. They have 1 pocket with a zipper, 2 small pockets with buttons and one large pocket with a button. During my last visit to KI I wore the shorts. I put my cell in a ziplock bag and in one of the small button pockets, and while riding I stored my glasses in the other small button pocket. IN the large zipper pocket were my keys, and wallet, and My wallet was also in a ziplock bag. the result? Success! I succefully rode Firehawk without having to get a locker, and i also rode wwc with all my stuff in my pocket and didn't get wet. looks like a simple pair of cargo shorts and a couple ziplock bags were all I needed! Thanks for the tips guys!
