VoRtExKid2005
Has anyone heard about Cedar Points new indoor waterpark, Castaway Bay? I needed a news paper article for my Econ class and I saw an article about it and used it. It is costing Cedar Point $22million and will be open year round. It is supposed to attach to one of the resorts on the park, right next to the existing water park. Do you think its a coincidence that Cedar Point is building a new waterpark the same year as PKI? A park usually thinks about adding something for a while before they actually build it. Would it have been possible for either park to know that the other was building a waterpark, or did CP realize that PKI was building a new waterpark and decided to build a new one in a matter of months? Whats your opinion? Edited January 1, 1970 by VoRtExKid2005
fyrfyter
Castaway Bay Perhaps or the addition of Soak City? Yeah. I think its a heck of an idea. If you had to capital to do something like this, you could probably make a killing in this area. Now, coming up with enough money, to build a hotel and an indoor waterpark, thats gonna be tough, especially, since startup on something like that could cost around $100 million, including the hotel. As far as coincidence is concerned, I heard about the indoor part well over a year ago, but I didn't hear about the Soak City part until recently. VoRtExKid2005
Sorry everybody about starting two identical topics. Please respond in this one rather than the other one because the other one will hopefully be closed. Thanks alot. -Nick-
Beastfreak
Well actually last year during the invester conference call (broadcast on the internet) they had mentioned they were going to add on to a hotel. Plus they publicly made it clear they were building this before PKI ever mentioned anything about redo-ing their waterpark by filing for variances with the city for tax deferal and building permits. So just because they just now released it in the press doesn't mean they are copying Kings Island. Six Flags Worlds of Adventure updated their waterpark last year. Kings Island and Cedar Point are really following them, if anything at all. Now saying that the Cedar Point news was known before Kings Island doesn't mean we are copying Cedar Point either.... Because of where in the park I work I've heard mention of the expansion before this season even started. So now its safe to say that its merely a coincidence that the two parks are doing closely the same thing this year. Wait till next year though. To correct you. They are putting the year round waterpark onto the Radison, which is outside the park... not right next to their current waterpark. They are however adding more stuff to their normal waterpark as well.
aero11
On the construction tour for Boomerang Bay Jeff talked about how they started planing for Boomerang Bay 2 years ago.
Browntggrr
If CP is competing with anybody for the indoor waterpark, it is Great Bear Lodge, which is also in Sandusky off of Rt. 2 (less than 10 miles for CP). With all the coasters that CP builds, and the claim that PKI does not want to be in a coaster race and is trying to be more of a family park, I don't think PKI had any influence on CP's decision to put additions to Soak City. By each park's own definition, they are 2 different types of parks. CP is also expanding Lighthouse Point (cabins along the Sandusky Bay channel) for 2004.
