Men's Rest Rooms

I have repeatedly to no avail brought this issue to the attention of Guest Relations, so I am going public with this in the hope that something is finally done. In the Men's bathrooms across from Diamondback, Racer, Backlot Stunt Coaster, and WindSeeker, there is no air conditioning. This is extremely uncomfortable ( and disgusting ) during these killer heat waves. My message to you, management, is simple: Fix the air conditioning!

I am not a complainer but when a guest's basic comforts are ignored, this is unacceptable.

I hear you on the need for AC in those bathrooms. I am one of the guys who cleans the bathrooms at the park and trust me, we want AC for those bathrooms just as much as you do. Unfortunately, it isn't a matter of fixing the AC. They would have to squeeze new AC units into the bathrooms.

Perhaps KI could teach some people proper bathroom etiquette.

I have lost count on how many times other guests have left truly disgusting things (i.e. not flushing, not aiming, not lifting seat, purposely clogging toilet etc.) that have nothing to do with air conditioning.

You are not kidding. One of my biggest pet peeves after cleaning restrooms this year is the guys who take a leak in the stalls and get it all over the seats. I mean come on, really??? dry.gif

And how about people that use the hand dryers to dry their clothes from the water rides?

I understand the park may have to install new a/c units but, as far as I'm concerned, if they can charge ridiculously high prices for food and drinks, there is no reason they cannot afford to put in new a/c units.

I can use a restroom all winter, but I cannot ride a coaster all winter.

I'll take a clean park with good rides over a/c in the restroom any day.

If you don't like one restroom out of what, five in the park? then go to a different one. It's that easy.

Edit: Nevermind, I just realized you were complaining about FIVE restrooms! Carry on.

Not easy if its an emergency. When you gotta go, you gotta go.

I have enjoyed the humor in this discussion thread but this is a very serious issue from a customer service perspective. We have had so many discussions on these threads about the declining concern for customer service. To me, not providing comfortable restrooms is the ultimate slap in the customer's face. I am sure you understand what I mean, Terpie.

See also Camden Park. UGH! Some of the worst rest rooms in the industry, not to mention the only water fountain in the entire park is INSIDE the men's rest room, not refrigerated and has very little water pressure. Waterless urinals, but toilets from the 1950's, broken stalls and decrepit 5 cent coin boxes, nearly all broken.

Most of the people who post in topics and threads about the way customer service is maybe making a few things up. I'm not saying that anyone on here is. It's just that you hear so many stories about how customer service is at some place. And it's hard to tell if a person is lying or telling the truth about that stuff online or if they tell you face to face if you wasn't at that place when they were. The bathroom issue's are everywhere. Not at one place. I use to clean restrooms at a hospital. I can tell you that the visitors do not care how big of a mess they make anywhere. I think the same thing is happening at Kings Island. The workers can't keep up with cleaning the restrooms due to the 1,000's of people who use the restrooms everyday. Now on to the A/C. The park maynot have A/C or heat in the restrooms due to them having the doors open all the time. It causes the A/C or heat to go right out the door costing money. I know the gift shops and game rooms have all that. But no one is in a restroom for more then 10 mins unless they have a problem. And no one will go to a restroom to just cool off if it is really hot out. I will only do number 1 at a themepark or anywhere else because you never know what is on a seat.

The simple solution is to fix the a/c and close the doors. Problem solved. I agree that the park cannot keep up with the people that trash the rest rooms but I don't see how that is relevant to the maintence of the a/c. Believe you me, if you even have to be in those rest rooms for 5 minutes to do your business, it is absolutely miserable.

I work restrooms at Magic Kingdom, and can tell you these are issues down here

There are very few places that people go to specifically to use the potty, but all businesses have potties that are used... So what does that say about their importance? When I go to a restaurant, I do so to eat food, not to use the bathroom. But still I expect there to be a bathroom, and if I use it I expect it to be clean and comfortable. Maybe not "like home," but certainly livable conditions.

For the most part, I think there's little you can do about bathrooms like the ones at theme parks. Sure, they can be made quite nice with newer, touch-free technology and nice lighting and plenty of care. But when literally hundreds of people are walking into these buildings and disposing of their biological waste day in and day out, what do you expect? Sure, the older bathrooms in older parks amount to not much more than mega-outhouses. But they are little standalone buildings exposed to the heat with people walking in from the dirty outside all day long. Compare an outdoor, standalone restroom to the one in Festhaus. There are just certain issues that come with the bathrooms like the ones in Coney Mall.

And really, I doubt it's a matter of not air conditioning them because of there being no doors. 1) Doors can be easily installed. 2) Look at Flight of Fear, Boo Blasters, or especially The Crypt. Massive openings in which conditioned air pours forth all day and night. Frankly, I'm surprised they haven't used black rubber hanging sheets (like Disaster Transport's) that guests need to push through in order to enter those rides and keep the air conditioning in.

But really, doesn't this come down to a "first world problem?" The bathroom isn't air conditioned? Maybe we ought to take a step back and think of what we're really complaining about, and if it deserves the time and attention we're giving it...?

I beg to differ. After six years in Park Services (specifically cleaning restrooms), I still feel the need to walk into every restroom in the park, even when I DON'T need to go.

With all due respect, the notion that there is nothing that can be done about outdoor restrooms in theme parks is simply a convenient excuse to do nothing. The other restrooms at KI (including the outdoor ones.) other than the ones I mentioned do have a/c. You may say that you should go to a restroom with a/c but if I am by The Beast and have to go badly, I have no other alternative. I give you Holiday World as a perfect example of a park that keeps their restrooms cool and comfortable for their guests.

People DO have to go, but they don't necessarily have to do it at a Cedar Fair park. As individual/family decisions are made as to where to go, past experiences will be taken into account. It is cold comfort to know that Cedar Point rest rooms are not up to Kings Island standards, often being unkempt, messy and less than desirable.

It is interesting to note that at what was to prove later to be the end of the Snyder/Shapiro era at Six Flags, major emphasis was put on rest room cleanliness.
