welchce
I rode FoF 2 times yesterday (6/1) and something happened both times which I never ever remember happening before. For some reason, the car was brought to a complete stop at the mid-ride brake run near the top of the building and then allowed to slowly to inch its way out of the brakes and continue on its course. I'm not sure if I like it or not but it was definitely unexpected. Has anyone else experienced this or know why it was changed to this (at least on 6/1). PKIVortex
Unfortunally this has been happening for several years now. As to why it's doing it, I don't know.
JjAmSaOnN
I noticed it too the couple time I have ridden this year. Someone told me they think they train is too fast to the first mid-stop or the loading, unloading is very slow at the start of the season. But did you notice when you are up there stopped the track sways a bit? That was a little freaky.

I don't remember it happening Saturday (Firehawk opening). But then again I was on the first ride of the day but I don't know if that would matter. Delirium33
I've just noticed it this year. I don't like how it almost stops, but it does make the ride last longer. IMO they should just be used to slow the train, not stop it or nearly-stop it.
CoastersRZ
The track has to sway some. As the saying goes, if it does`t shake, it will break.
WhoDeyForever
I noticed the brakes to. Never noticed it and I was like WTF?...I don't remember that happening to me last year.
PKIVortex
I rode in the second car, and the first car wasn't even on the brake run when we stopped. I beleive it is launching alot faster this year.
King's Island Addict
Yea, i noticed it. The first time i rode it this year, in about 2 years, was in the front and when i stopped i was yelled "Its not supposed ot stop, is it?" I was freaking out, but liked it because as you inch forward you start to tilt, which i enjoyed.
SOB_TOM
It is launching faster, so I think that its completely stopping because of the excess speed. As for the load/unload cycle being the cause, thats false. The coaster is actually set up for 3 trains (station to midcourse, midcourse to final, final to unload, unload to turnaround before load, turnaround to station.) padfoot714
I've been stopped there before. IIRC it used to happen more frequently when the ride was still new. I seem to remember being shocked during the 1998 season when we didn't come to a complete stop.
James78
I'm torn on this one. I hate the fact that it comes to almost a complete stop but at the same time I do like the inching forward bit especially in the front seat.
DiSab
Yeah, I actually like the complete/almost-complete stop. When you start inching forward out of the brakes and down the next drop, the angle and banking on said drop almost makes it feel like you're going to fall out of the train. I like that feeling because it gives the ride kind of a unique element - the Falling-Out-But-Not-Really-Falling-Out Drop!
DropZone99
It's gotton faster, jerkier, and when i rode it on the 26th. it stopped on the top also.
Miss Hysteria
The first time I rode it and it stopped I freaked too.. especially being in the back row! But I still love the ride!!!
PKIVortex
I also agree that the first half of the ride is jerky. I also think one train is launching faster then the other. I rode it 5 times on the 18th of May, and on my last ride, I rode in the second car. I could barely keep head or neck control. During the first inversion my head was push down cause of all of the g's. It hurt too.
Miss Hysteria
heh.. I remember the OTSR and your head would literally ping pong side to side on them! I had to get excedrin after the ride!

teenageninja
I really doubt the trains are launching at different speeds. It probably has something to do with the weight of the train.
corn4ahead
It swayed quite a bit. The only good thing about comin to a complete stop was that it made the end corkscrew a lot better.
PKIVortex
Hang time. But I could see them trimming some of the speed off the train, but to the point where it comes to a complete stop, kills the rest of the ride.
Guest kwindshawne
Due to my short stature, my head would hit both sides of the restraint at the top of my ears-talk about pain! But so far this year, i have not had that problem. I noticed it being smoother this year as well. I will not ride it if the trains are only half full-weight does make a difference. The Interpreter
Heaven help any of you who get headaches on Flight of Fear now....if you had only ridden it with the OTSR's, or Steel Phantom, or worst of all, Chiller at SFGAd when it had OTSR's! Now that hoit.
DropZone99
I couldn't even imagine riding FoF with them on.
The Interpreter
The OTSR's were remarkably similar to those on FaceOff....
PKIVortex
I have an on-ride photo that is from 1996, I'll scan it and add it here in just a second. Can you say ouch!
welchce
I don't think I really mind it at all but at first I thought the ride broke down and we were going to get stuck at the top. So I was kind of mad we kept going
