The Interpreter
It is reliably reported by participants at Geauga Lake's coaster enthusiast event yesterday that the Raging Wolf Bobs has derailed with damage to the track and train, but no reported injuries. As of this writing, no written news accounts have been located. As an aside, this coaster now runs the same type of Gerstlauer trains that are reportedly to be installed on Son of Beast, and those trains had replaced the original PTC carriages. . . WooferBearATL
I bet they end up removing the loop.
PKIVortex
I heard this on Themeparkreview, but no one seemed to believe it over there. But I wonder why no news stories picked this up?
Gordon Bombay
I bet this wouldnt have happened if Linder owned the park and they listened to the food services employees more often.
teenageninja
Not surprising, Cedar Fair's wood maintainence doesn't seem very good judging the rides I've had on their coasters 2 years ago, Mean Streak, Blue Streak, Raging Wolf Bobs, Villain, Big Dipper, etc. I kind of hope they shy away from wood, because even Beast is getting unbearable for me to ride. Skywriter
The Beast has given me very good rides every time I have rode it this year. I think I have already rode it 11 times or more.

I don't think that Linder ever owned GL. Did I miss that?
Kenban
There is a discussion about this going on at Coaster Buzz at the moment a post towards the bottom has links to pictures (I also copied the links and they appear at the end of the post). It appears the last car of a train did derail. From what I have read about it so far it sounds like all the injuries were very minor and I assume thats why it has not made it onto the news yet. I am hoping someone can get some more information at some point I would be very interested in reading the cause of the problem. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/bil...t/carderail.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/bil...t/investcar.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/bil...ent/discuss.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/bil...investtrack.jpg
PKIVortex
Not good for GL. As far at KI's woody's minus SOB, I think they are running pretty well this year. Racer is running better this year then it has in many years. Last year Racer beat the crap outta me, and made my back hurt. It hasn't bothered me at all this year. Delirium_Guy
The Beast has given me very good rides every time I have rode it this year. I think I have already rode it 11 times or more. Gotta disagree. Aside from early in the season, Beast has been giving me some crap rides lately. Racer isn't much better. We all rode both during our run of the Park last Thursday and all came up with splitting headaches. Beast just bounces all over the flippin' track. Racer has a horrible jack-hammering going on in the axle seats. - Todd
upstop
I witnessed the derailment. My friend and I were walking up the ramp for the Grizzly Run observation deck when there was a loud pop like pneumatic air breaks. My friend said "My God it derailed". I looked up and saw the train speeding down the fan tail part of the track backwards and the back car was bouncing all over the place, slamming the track and leaving a trail of smoke. It finally stopped and began to valley forwards. The car was now down in between the track, sideways and as the train went forward into the valley, the car was dragged over the supports one at a time. You could see the riders bouncing and jerking around. We had ridden earlier on the same train and there was an incredible amount of lateral movement. It looked as if the derailment occurred where new track had been replaced. My first thought was the gauge of the track seemed different. Security, station workers and emt were on sight in less than two minutes and should be recognized for their speed in getting to the site. People were immediately evacuated from the station. People really wanted to help but knew that they would be in the way. Within twenty minutes, everyone was evacuated from the train. Thank God no one was seriously hurt. I have ridden The Beast probably 7-10 times this year, and only once did I have a very rough ride. Most of my rides this year have been very smooth and pleasurable. Also, I had the best Racer-ride of my life last time I was at the park. It was like a totally different ride, very smooth and tons of airtime. However I also had a jack-hammering ride (like you said) on an earlier ride on The Racer.
PKIVortex
The Wheel seats are pretty rough on The Beast, and Racer, but I tend to stay away from them myself. I always either sit in the front seat, or the middle of a car.
The Interpreter
And how the press is reporting it: http://www.newsnet5.com/news/13518055/detail.html
RWildman424
Wow.....all I can say is Wow. Can reporters look into storys before they write them? It seems like every time something happens in an amuzement park, the reporters get it all wrong, or atleast most of it.

Captain Picard
Maybe the up stop wheels fell off the last car then it derailed and caused it not to make it back up that hill. I don't know but maybe that last car is supposed to do that. Thinking about the one time I had a ride on it I was in the last car and it felt like it wasn't on the rails. Kawana
My God, is GL spinning this or what? No mention of a derailment. "The Raging Wolf Bobs shut down at 11:45 a.m. Saturday when one of the coaster trains failed to climb a hill and rolled down the hill backwards, coming to rest in a valley." That's from The Intrepreter's news story. I'll bet GL put out a generic statement, concealing what really happened, knowing that the news outlets wouldn't try to find out what really happened. I find it amusing that no one from the affected train has tried to contact the media to set the record straight.
