Operator Uniforms

The Lion Country Safari costume worn by ride operators. (Beth Shaffernocker). Operators had to memorize a spiel and facts about the animals. It began "Hujambo, habari za azubuhi - or hello and welcome to Kings Island Lion Country Safari. My name is... ". As the monorail made its way through the three parts of the animal park (each was separated by a high fence with gates that the monorail passed through), operators had to point out animals and explain interesting facts about them. There wasn't much to driving the monorail: it was automatic. Operators had walkie-talkies in the monorail to keep in touch with the rangers in the park and to communicate with maintenance when the monorail stopped in the middle of the park. It was very cool to be a monorail operator because it was the only ride that had a speaking part (like Live Shows) and because it was the only ride with the new and different costume.

The name tags with blue background and white letters were regular employees; the supervisor name tags had a white background with red letters. In addition to the "Kings Island" and the employee's first name, the department (e.g. rides, games, etc.) was at the bottom of each name tag.
