Attrition has been a big problem at KI for some time.  I think they are hiring more people simply because they want to account for the many the fall off by June.

I've never worked for KI so I can't speak with much authority.  I know the work is hard, but those who do it absolutely live for it.  If you're on the fence, give it a shot!

It's like that during Haunt too. 90% are teens, and 50% of them will be gone by the 3rd or 4th week. In my 6 years of doing Haunt, i've seen that.

  2. I dont see anything coming ride wise other then maybe a restaurant. With the over haul of Mean Streak, and Mystic opening last year, KI might take a break from rides. I could be wrong.

I still haven't heard a whisper of a rumor one way or the other.

I'm obviously really hoping that KI continues their relationship with Les Productions Haut-Vol to bring another new Cirque show to the KI Theater. However the past three years, I had heard about as legitimate rumors as you can get without an official announcement by now, usually by the end of Cirque for the year. This time, silence.

The only thing I know for sure is that the set for Origins was broken down and removed (a friend saved a couple small chunks for me), but it was expected that Origins would only have a two year run, just as Cirque Imagine did. Prior to its end I had assumed a new Haut-Vol production would replace it but I'm a little concerned not to have any verification.

If not Cirque, I hope it is something else interesting and up to that quality!

They need a new Cirque show. They have so many out there the park could do.

Nope. The two can and did coexist. When they did, Action Theater was in the left half of the building (Blue Racer side), while Urgent Scare was and still is in the right half of the building (Red Racer side).

Only if they clean up the other side.

Sometimes I sit and wonder what it would have been like if Son of Beast were built with really durable materials and didn't feature the loop. Had they not pushed the envelope as far, and only went for the wooden hyper coaster record, and did it properly, it probably would still be around today. It would have been a crazy RMC hybrid, too.

But the biggest mistake ever made when removing a ride was removing the Flying Eagles and sending them to Carowinds, as they were an original flat ride from Coney Island.

The company who made the ride closed right after SOB opened.

For nostalgia reasons, I miss Phantom Theatre and Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal.  Fantastic memories on those two.

I think the biggest shame was not doing SOB right.  I rode it on it's opening year, and again later without the loop.  I was much younger and could handle rougher coasters much better - it was never smooth.  I'm with @Bpat1983 that it could have been done better.

Edit: Also TR:TR/Crypt.  That's such a fantastic show building.  Although I love Madame Fatale's, it could be used for something epic, no?

A few tall woodies never have been that way for some reason.

Does Boomerang Bay count? If so, yes!

If not, the Flying Eagles/Antique Cars removal was the worst mistake ever, and I still believe that the replacement is garbage in comparison.

They never got rid of Boomerang Bay. Just changed the name due to licensing reasons. It was part of Paramount's branding for the movie Crocodile Dundee.

I think Phantom Theater, all other rides that have been removed were either removed for good reason (Son of Beast), replaced with a new even better ride (Banshee, Adventure Express, & Delirium > King Cobra), have been brought back already (Flying Eagles, although not in original form unfortunately), or was a shell of it's former self due to licensing (TR:TR).

But Phantom Theater had no reason to be removed other than maintenance costs as far as I know, it was replaced with a much more inferior ride, and I don't remember the quality of the ride degrading too much over time like Boo Blasters has.

I believe the main reason for TR leaving was due to the ride breaking down too much.

I see your point that groups should not use the single rider line to sit together.  I agree that such use of the single rider line is abusive.  I do not agree with your proposed remedy of closing single rider line.  The single rider line helps in two ways.  Obviously, it fills the train by filling empty seats.  It also keeps single riders out of the main queue where every single rider comes with an empty seat.  Under normal operation, sometimes they use the single rider to fill an otherwise empty seat, sometimes not and another empty seat is created.  I have not seen a lot of empty seats on Mystic Timbers at Winterfest due to the single rider line.

I have not seen the single rider line abused in any of my 4 rides during winterfest.  I understand your experience is different, however your concern is overstated.  The ride operatins crew is fully capable of addressing potential abuses with the person at the line entry confirming that people who enter the single rider line are indeed single riders and the person assigning seats filling empty seats with single riders as odd numbered groups come through the normal line.  There is a small chance of abuse, but the benefit is substantial.

A some of the ride staff failed to address issues over the summer that would get a guest removed from the park. I have heard that many times from other guests. The staff has to get on the guests when it comes to cell phone use on rides, smoking in line, smoking on rides(yes that happened once) and line jumping.

  5. I did Wolf Pack two Fridays ago, and it was interesting. I'd describe it as a lot of things that could potentially scare you, but with one really loud scare. Also, walking up to WP was cool as it was SOB's old queue, I didn't realize how narrow that path is!

You might of seen me in Wolfpack.

  6. Why is it that Cedar Fair can spend how much per year on rides and keep prices way under what Disney and Universal charge? I heard somewhere that Disney isn't raising prices for the money. I call that BS. They also spent millions if not billions on the 2 big comic book and movie companies in the last few years. If you go into a Disney store, you will see that the Star Wars items out number Mickey and the rest of the gang.

  7. In case you haven't noticed, "luxury apartments" are purportedly slated for there. Then the tenants will complain of noise, traffic, etc., while others will complain about the tenants and their noise, traffic, etc.

Nothing is being done as of now. A building is still up along with the signs. Land looks like crap. And that was as of 2 weeks ago.

  8. Hey everyone! I have a bit of information and you can take it for what it's worth.

I was at Haunt on Friday night and was minding my own business and ended up walking behind two guys who worked at the park scoping around the fountain on I-Street. I didn't exactly hear their whole conversation, but what I did make of it was that they were talking about filling in the fountain and having a daily FMX motocross show. I had heard from a lot of people that the FMX freestyle thing they had over Memorial Day weekend was really popular, but this is a little extreme, don't you think? The FMX thing was cool, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about them removing the fountains...

Again, this was just something I overheard. I'm not trying to claim to have the inside goods. I just thought I'd share.

That is just like people saying that KI needs to remove the front gate area to build a new coaster just like CP did. Said people don't get that the front gate area can't hold a coaster unless you remove a ton of buildings.

  9. We are having serious convos about not renewing our meal plans. The price is right but it's not worth it to wait in line for 45 minutes to get 2 cheese coneys...

You can use your meal plan on certain items at Reds at KI.

  10. Kentucky Kingdom was closed for years. Of course, it had to be redone.

Wyandot Lake was repurposed as zoo curtilage. Same story.

And the Six Flags of today is more like the Cedar Fair of the 90's, while the Cedar Fair of today is more like the Six Flags of the 80's.

Neither company is the same as it was in the Ohio park disposal era. Besides, if Six Flags sold Geauga Lake, what did Cedar Fair do to it?

I'm not going to say who really killed Geauga Lake because my response will cause a fight.

  11. I don't want to, but I'd have to agree with Terp. There is a large chance that there is going to be some sort of merge in at least our lifetimes. Whether thats CF buying up the parks if SF goes completely bankrupt and can't rebound, SF buying up some of the smaller CF parks (Michigan's Adventure, World's of Fun, that petty excuse of a waterpark), or just a full on buyout.

Six Flags already owned Geauga Lake once. Six Flags sold both Ohio parks along with some other parks in the USA because the company was losing money at that time. I don't see Six Flags buying any parks for along time. The ones that they did own had to be fixed up before the new owners even reopened them. Ky. Kingdom and Zoombezi Bay(was Six Flags Wyandot Lake by The Columbus Zoo) were 2 parks that had to be redone.

  12. First thing I noticed this past Friday at Haunt was that the number of alcohol stands has been drastically reduced for Haunt.  This was one of the things I always liked better about KI vs. CP for Haunt.

The only stands I was able to locate were near the Crypt (Bloodweiser draft), the small stand next to the cafe across from Vortex, of course the bar by Viking Fury, and the sports bar by Diamondback.

The stand at Larosas by The Beast was not open, nor was Festhaus, nor any of the smaller carts with Bud/BL/Mikes Hard, etc.

I'm figuring this was intentional on the part of KI.  Has anyone else heard anything about this via a statement or change in policy?

Some food places and some rides are closed on Haunt Friday's. Cedar Point is the same way.
