  1. Required some thinking for me. :)

The longest time spent off of a coaster at KI would have to go to...Firehawk. Haven't rode it since May 24, 2012.

Also, I've never been on Backlot Stunt Coaster. Somehow I didn't get as interested in it as I did with most other coasters. But I will ride it someday. ;)

The longest I've spent off of a coaster overall (out of the ones I rode already) would go to Viper, Predator and Boomerang at Darien Lake. I hadn't visited that park at all since 7/25/2011. All the other parks I've been to besides DL (including KI) have all been visited this year (2012).

  2. The smell of grease and clickety-clack of Vortex's chain dogs on the lift hill

Dude, the moment I read that part of your post I almost drooled. The clickety-clacking of Arrow chain dogs (and grease smell) is practically my most favorite noise EVER!!!!

I also love every single one of Vortex's elements, AE's final tunnel, FD's swinging (who DOESN'T love that?!?), The Beast's double helix, Flight of Fear's elements and the fact that you're in near total darkness, Firehawk's inversions, when you're going backwards on Invertigo......for me, the list goes on, and on, and on.

  3. This is an easy one for me, Vortex all the way. Ever since my first ride on it when I was a lil kid I've been hooked. I love this ride and have to ride it every time I'm at the park, lost count after 200 laps.

That's my next Vortex ride goal...200! [Just 65 more rides (as of 10/28, my most recent trip) and I'm there!] :P But I'll still be keeping count when I surpass any number (yes, that means 200!). :)

Yeah, Vortex is also the top ride for me, by a lot. Right now I've rode it 135 times total since 2010 (when I started riding it). The second-most-ridden-by-me ride is Diamondback, which I've rode only 72 times since mid-2009. The count could have been higher, but those other opportunities were either sacrificed for last minute rides on Vortex prior to park closing (like on July 10 and October 28) or it was closed (like September 3) or the line was much too long (like August 4, especially in the evening). I feel I should step up my rhythm a little more on my riding of DB... After all, it IS my second most favorite coaster at KI...

Third most-ridden coaster has to be Adventure Express, though it's only at 16 rides, then Flight Deck, which is also at 16, and The Beast at 8. (yes, I'm also thinking about riding the other coasters a little more as well, all while still getting my dose of Vortex rides on each and every KI trip.)

For Cedar Point, it's Magnum XL-200 at 6 rides; Iron Dragon and Gemini are at 5 rides as of my most recent CP trip on September 9. (I only go once a year--3 and a half hour drive away from my house! and also I've only been going annually since 2011). Corkscrew is close behind, with four rides total.

Loch Ness Monster is my top ride at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, at six rides (I've been there only once--on 6/26/12). Griffon and Apollo's Chariot are tied for second at two rides.

At Darien Lake, Viper is at the top with 10 rides (during the only trip there so far--on 7/25/11) and Boomerang has the second most at only 2.

For Kings Dominion, Anaconda has the most (5) and second is Shockwave (3). (I've also been to KD only once--on 4/10/12)

Python is the only coaster at Coney Island so it'll always be at the top there. ;)(though I've rode it only once...)

  4. I rated myself an 8 because I love Kings Island and know a lot about it but there are things that I never knew about KI before and this is a great place to share it.

Yeah...my reason is basically what tuxedoman52 said. :)

Ya know, if this were how much of a Vortex enthusiast you are, I'd be a 10++++++ or even more! (uhhh...you know what I mean, don't you?) :D

Edit: Hey, maybe I'll start a poll on how much of a Vortex enthusiast you are!! :D Ahh...the power of an imagination.

  5. That video was just great, and the soundtrack really brings out emotion.(I actually want to watch it again!) Of course it's a ride I never got to ride, and my annual CP trip came a little late for that this year...although I DID go three days before the Spiral fell...

EDIT: The song used in that video (for the first half and very end before the credits) was actually the soundtrack that played on CP's WindSeeker when I rode it on 9/09! Go figure...

  6. I also really like riding WindSeeker, actually. It's a good combination of relaxation and thrills, and I also love a lot of the soundtracks that play on it. It's actually somewhere on my ride priority list every time I go to Kings Island.

Sure, it's a prototype, it has its problems. But still...

At least ours (KI's) is [one of] the most reliable.

  7. You can look at this from another side. The Beast is still the signature ride at KI. Why would KI put another wooden coaster? Some of these new wooden coasters are very expensive to maintain now.

True, very true...I actually haven't taken much time time to think of it this way. I am rather content with The Beast and The Racer, at the moment. Woodstock Express was actually my first "real" roller coaster.

You do prove a good point. :)

  8. The park is open 9/23. Hours are from 11am until 7pm.

    I knew it! :D

Of course, I checked the website, both yesterday AND today...

Lots of people are like that apparently. Sundays in Oct, one can ride until they pass out. Most everything is a walk on.

I loooove going in October! On 10/02/2011, the lines were so short that I stayed on Diamondback 10 straight times, and on Vortex, I rode it 9 times straight.

Can't wait for this October. I'm sure those lines will be short again! :)

  9. ^A corkscrew? Wonder would that would be like on a suspended swinging coaster.

But alas, it cannot be done, especially with a good potential for disastrous results, if at any time the train didn't have the right amount of energy to swing up and through the corkscrew.

  10. when I went down the second lift hill on the loop, my head wasnt on the head reast, I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO POP OFF! My head was being pulled the oppisant way I was going.

I know, right? That part is sooooooo fun...and intense, too. :) I also like riding in a seat that goes backwards first, it's also reeeeeeeally fun!

But Invertigo doesn't hurt, at least for me. Even when I don't have my head on the headrest. hmmmm...

  11. ^ Wow 12 rides on Vortex in one day. That should be a record in itself! Oh how I miss the days of having a youthful neck.

    Ride on young warrior!

The most I've ridden Vortex in one day is 18 (10/14/2012). On two trips I've ridden 12 times (10/02/11 and 9/03/12). Apparently, to break the record I'd have to ride it at least 14 19 times during one KI trip. Plus, I ride Vortex differently than most, which is why I don't necessarily say that it is "rough." I just think it is a nice, fairly smooth ride with some "personality" here and there. ;)

And yes, I'll ride on!! I have ridden Vortex for the last 24 trips. That first trip of those 24 was on 7/23/2010, when I took my very first Vortex ride.

(I don't want this to sound like bragging...)

In response to khaoskat's post, I also got a Vortex photo (during my 9/03 trip), which was in a waterglobe and a keychain! (I also paid $11.05) :D

  12. Is it me, or do others also love hearing the brakes open and close as well as the mechanical hum of the giant lift gear speeding up and slowing down?

I'm with you too. Not only do I love FD's mechanical noises, I also feel that way about Vortex. I mean, since I first rode it, I've always LOVED the brake noises, and especially that chain...(I even have a video that I took on 8/28/11 of (particularly) Vortex's station brakes.)

  13. Sorry for taking so long to post. Twice I started to do it, but somehow it kept getting wiped out, so this time I’m relying on Microsoft Word.

Now, where was I? Oh right, I left off after Vortex stopped briefly while I was waiting in line for my post-95th-Vortex-ride WindSeeker cycle.

This WS ride was in Seat #30. It had stopped raining for a long time, but it was still a good breezy ride (like always) up top. Pleasant…very pleasant.

After that, I returned to Vortex and rode it six more times. The first four of those six were on the favorite, Train #2, while the other two were on Train #1. The first was in row 6-1, which is like 7-1, except it is a little less intense with a TEENY bit less airtime. Speaking of 7-1, the next two rides were in that row! Fun, intense, airtime-filled ride as I’ve always remembered it. My 99th Vortex ride was in my favorite row in the back, row 6-2. It’s sort of a combination (in-between) 6-1 and 7-1. It’s more like than 6-1 than 7-1, though.

When it was finally time for my Vortex Ride #100, I suddenly felt this whole new lot of anticipation as I entered the queue. It felt like a casual “procession,” as I got closer to the loading station. At the same time I wondered: Which train would have the honor of taking me on my 100th flight?

Turns out, that train was none other than Train #1.

I took Vortex Ride #100 in the same seat that I took Vortex Ride #1. Very, very nice ride. Like always, I loved watching the track in front of me while going through the loops. Vortex Ride #101 was in a sentimental seat, too. It was in row 2-1, the same row in which I took Vortex Ride #2 on 7/23/10, and it was also where I did my very first marathon, on 9/26/10. To this day I still call 2-1 "the lucky seat."

To “celebrate” again, I took a third ride on WindSeeker. This one was in Seat #53 (one of my August 13th seats!) The song that played wasn’t one of the How To Train Your Dragon soundtracks, but I thought it was beautiful. Now if only I knew what it was called…

It was about 7:40 pm, just 20 minutes before closing. I had only rode 3 different rides, so I went to the X-Base. I wanted to ride Firehawk, but it was closed. (It was open earlier!!!!!! What’s up with that??? ) So I went on Flight of Fear instead. The wait was only about 10 minutes, as the line actually moved pretty quickly.

I don’t know how much irony was involved in this, but I rode in 1-1, the same seat that I was in when I took my first FoF ride, on 8/17/10! I’m on a roll with sentimental seats today… I was on Train #3. I loved the launch, and that out-of-control feeling as the train twists, turns, and spirals through near total darkness. I got off the ride at 7:55, which would be just enough time to go back to Vortex and possibly catch the last train of the day.

And catch the last train I did! I entered the queue at 7:58. Train #2 was just about to dispatch when I arrived, so that meant I was on Train #1, as part of the last trainload of riders for the night.

This was the second time I had caught the very last train of the day this season. The other time this happened was on May 24. I was riding WindSeeker and got off at 7:59, and then I had run like the wind to Vortex and ended up being the very last rider that was let on the ride before the park closed at 8.

I rode in the front seat for Vortex Ride #102, the same place where I took Vortex Rides #1 and #100. Pretty fun for the last of the night!

To me, after closing, the trains become good places for photos…This time I couldn’t resist hugging Train #1. After all, I AM Vortex’s BFF…I’m living up to my KIC username! ha.

I finally wished WindSeeker and Vortex a good night, and then I began my departure from my home amusement park.

EDIT: In this link, I thought the music in the video kind of fit the overall experience I had at Vortex that time (most of the lyrics actually apply!). (Note: the music doesn't start until 0:20 in the video) This is only based on my opinion & experience, so no criticizing... :P
