I am curious is this is perhaps an attempt by Anthony Bradburn to garner more support from the local community to instill the 'it wont affect me' mentality. However, in my opinion, that again is short sighted on his part. I have to assume Mason residents in reality make up a relatively small percentage of Kings Island visitors, but this credit, legal or not would essentially make the tax a moot point to a family of four purchasing season passes or visiting the park once or twice a season which could 'hush' the locals. I personally am not in favor of the tax, and again, I have to think there must be some hesitation from the community and perhaps even the voting members as of late - hence where this credit comes from. I know a common trend in this online community is always being 'right' and arguing your point of view ad nauseum. Sometimes its constructive, sometimes a little less and then of course there are the few times where you just scratch your head . Those that are taken seriously think before they speak. So to all those that will be in attendance tomorrow I think it is a wonderful opportunity to participate in democracy by speaking up against something you think is unnecessary and unfair. My hope tomorrow, is that those that are given the opportunity to speak, even for just a minute take the opportunity to speak intelligently and respectfully. Don't think your opinion doesn't matter because it does, it is the reason meetings such as these are open to the public. So - regardless of how it turns out tomorrow evening - be safe, and be professional - and above all remember you ultimately represent yourself.

How silly... I thought the image was going to be totally unrelated to Kings Island, or the article was going to have a massive grammatical error... (it did actually take me 2 minutes to realize what in the world the author of this post was even talking about to be honest) The graphic artist (more than likely working at an ad agency miles and miles away from the park) using a high resolution image that no doubt was professionally taken, and paid for no less was not one of my guesses however... Boy do I wish I had the free time to go over Kings Island ads with a fine toothed comb... Just as a side note - if i was proofing this ad in my professional life - the most noticeable 'oops' would be the text at the bottom not being the same distance from the blue ruled line... and thats even picky for me...

That music selection is a 'variation on a theme'... You can pick up on certain phrases that seem to be borrowed from the original Linus and Lucy by Vince Guaraldi Some artists have released their variation on L&L, Wikipedia has a good listing of some of them... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_and_Lucy I remember learning to play this in its original key back in 4th grade and thought that I had really arrived as a musician, thank goodness there were other milestones after that! -
I highly doubt you are correct...

Who is to say it isnt appealing? I hardly think this Kings Island fan site would be considered a fair research group. Furthermore, the reason why Kings Island and countless other companies have slogans is very simply, advertising. You see a logo or the slogan/tagline and you recognize the company easier, it gives you more ways to remember them in the long run. If I were to list 10 slogans / taglines without the company name, would you recognize the company? Lets give it a whirl shall we? 1. Just do it 2. Eat Fresh 3. Reach out and touch someone 4. Think outside the bun 5. Im lovin' it 6. Taste the rainbow 7. So easy a caveman can do it 8. The quicker picker upper 9. The breakfast of champions 10. Mmm Mmm Good! These slogans fill one purpose, they make the product or company they represent more identifiable and available to the consumer/target market. Do these slogans call into question the quality of product they offer? No. Would I be able to tell you each one of the companies by just looking at the tagline? Absolutely. Cedarpointer, Im glad I could help you understand why companies come up with these little phrases. You can disagree with me all you like, and by all means you are certainly entitled to, but I've spent a fair amount of time in school earning more than one sheet of paper that helped me get jobs in the advertising and marketing arena...

so the question now should be come - how will this new slogan, that is immediately criticized by Kings Island's 'biggest fans', negatively affect your 2010 visits to Kings Island...

BGW's 2010 Announcement
Erosarrow05 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The Interpreter - out of pure curiosity, what website did you find that story published? I was just wondering if it was screamscape, as you usually post your source and as that is where I saw it this morning too... Of course I suppose you could tune in to the official busch gardens youtube page daily and just happened to catch it, but who really has that kind of free time... :-D -
Interpreter... What is the age and current type of paint on Racer? I think its fair to say, its rather expensive to paint any full size roller coaster...
-
I fail to see what is terrible about that 'name'... I think it would be great for all those that are going to judge the 'new names' of the rides to perhaps explain why they think so and maybe offer up their own creative insight as to what a 'good' name would be... just a thought as its always easier to judge than be judged

I guess the question begs to ask - what are you doing besides amusement parks in the operational months of 2010? Have you thought about taking all that money you're going to dump into all those amusement parks and go on a cruise? Gosh, what a perfect vacation for you - A cruise that departs out of the Port of Orlando or San Pedro - then when you get back you could hit up a few of the disney/universal/busch parks in florida, or in CA you could do Magic Mountain and tour all of LA and go see the Grand Canyon. Just rambling... but my suggestion - think outside the amusement park box. Maybe you can save yourself from premature burn out and discover a new hobby all in the same. Both Florida and California have beautiful natural parks. The times I've gone to those states amusement parks were included in my trip and they were the most anticipated, afterwards, the amusement parks were fun, but couldn't hold a candle to some of the non-coaster related trips and excursions we participated in... Food for thought... Spend your money wisely... and always travel, because you never know when you wont be able to anymore just my 2 cents -
As enjoyable sifting through everyone under the sun trying to create "Bills Amusement Park - A Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. property" has been the past few weeks... I just came across this link over at screamscape to some close up images of the Paramount Movie Park in Korea. Some things look familiar, some make me thing what could have been... Just a little fuel for discussion... I think obviously being able to start from the ground up and create these highly immersive experiences and rides will be much more an easier task than try to convert an existing property that is an amusement park and 'force' pieces of Paramount library throughout the park. In any event... its worth taking a gander at and perhaps discussing... As always I'll provide the the screamscape link, as to not make you think i scour hundreds and hundreds of websites a day just waiting for updates pertaining to amusement parks when in reality - its from my weekly visit to screamscape. http://www.screamscape.com/html/paramount_..._park_korea.htm (have i mentioned how i think screamscape is extremely reliable)

isnt that what moderators are for... to address those issues? and secondly, why 'scold' another member when you could have clearly sent a private message to them and politely brought the issue to the users attention. ...with age comes wisdom i suppose

SFOT Re-Doing Texas Giant
Erosarrow05 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
i think its interesting to go back and read some comments made about the voyage earlier in the thread. I only say this because when I heard it described by a user here as "sheer wooden coaster perfection", I (a.) had to chuckle and (b.) had to disagree because I found it, while fun and exciting, not something I would travel to several times a season. But sometimes if you dont jump on the band wagon it seems as though you might have to start dodging flames. When I read some of the users continually rant and rave about le' Voyage, all I can ever think is how I've ridden wooden roller coasters much smaller and slower in speed that I thought were much more intense and thrilling, what I would consider closer to 'perfection'. I guess I have to remind myself that we all have not had the opportunity to ride the same roller coasters and that peoples' tastes vary. Just my random thought as I scrolled back through Shaggy and The Interpreters posts from several months ago... -
Oh, I clearly do not spend enough of my free time there to be able to form any of those assessments.
-
did i miss some lengthy discussion about how the general public has taken up crusade to add seat belts to Diamondback because the restraint system is unsafe? This is the first I've really heard of this "irrational fear", but it made me chuckle no less.
-
Could I be so bold as to ask why wood coasters do not need to built to heights of 200 feet? You could certainly look at all the rides available that are 110 feet tall that are 'dream machines' and be totally content thinking that height is acceptable, but it could also be said that there is a whole other echelon of wooden ride waiting to be discovered above this 200 foot barrier. I dont know why the number 200 became the arbitrary number of choice to cap the wooden roller coaster height limit, but I have to assume that if engineered appropriately, regardless of height, one could have a superb ride experience. I could just as easily argue that steel roller coasters have no business being over 243.9 feet but i don't. The technology and creative minds behind these thrill rides are evolving every day, which fortunately for those of you who travel the country riding roller coasters to a degree it could be considered a job, means new and exciting experiences yearly.

$14 parking at WDW
Erosarrow05 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The one time I actually did park at the Universal Orlando Garage when we did not stay on the property and chose to not use the hotel shuttle, I felt like the 12 dollars or so I coughed up was not an outrageous deal. The line moved extremely fast, and the parking attendants were efficient and polite in parking the vehicles. But moreover, the sheer quantity of moving walkways, escalators and elevators installed on this seemingly monstrous structure made it more of a 'shuttle' to the car as opposed to a long walk to and from the parks. I was able to park on the main concourse level that was shaded so if I did have to return to the vehicle during the day, to say run across the street to the hotel for whatever reason, the car wasn't an inferno (which was appreciated). I didn't need to stop by a return parking booth to get a stamp for my receipt, or have to check on any policy about reentry at a later time because there wasn't one, I just left. There are only so many things a parking lot fee can cover, its a fee afterall, but as a consumer seeing moving walkways, escalators etc, and not having to jump through hoops to re-enter the garage makes the charge a little more tolerable to me at least. I know you can only take what you read on trip reports for what it is, a biased regurgitation of what a person's day was like, but when I stumble across people having to jump through hoops to be 'readmitted' into the parking lot after leaving for whatever the case - I feel like that is quite possibly one of the most asinine ways to rake in another dollar or two and I wouldn't just limit that to just Kings Island. Certain posters like to reiterate how line jumping is the next big crime wave of 2009 hitting a local amusement park near you and Cedar Fair knowingly turns a blind eye to it because they can, so I take that with a grain of salt, but every car is greeted by a tolls associate that should be able to help rectify any reentry problems. Sometimes I think, would it really hurt to just go on a limb and trust the customer? Just my sidetracked 2 cents -
Dorney Security Head To Be On TruTv
Erosarrow05 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
This sounds like it might be an interesting program to watch, similar to to A&E's 'Airline'. I have a feeing that like Airline, this TruTV program will be edited in a fashion to make the job seem much less mundane than in actuality it probably is. Naturally thats the job of Hollywood though. However, even though the editing eliminates most of the down time, with 'airline' at least, you were able to get a small glimpse at some of the more bizarre passengers that float through airports around the country with their even more bizarre complaints and requests. I must say I enjoy most of the cable reality programming than the network lineups. Shows that are featured on Bravo, A&E, TLC and Tru all seem to be edited in a manner that stays true the subject matter of the program where as it seems more often than not the major networks see how much shock, awe and scandal they can cram in to a 30 or 60 minute program. But of course, there is a niche for that programming. I think a fair comparison is of this would be Top Chef vs Hells Kitchen. Top Chef is strictly about the quality of food, the chefs and the challenges with very little 'personal drama'. Whereas Hells Kitchen, seems to have a more rambunctious group of contestants, where part of the watching the show is knowing Gordon Ramsey is going to swear off the staff, and act like... himself. To me, while I watch them both regularly, they are becoming increasingly more like night and day. I like Bravo TV's tag line.... "Watch what happens" as opposed to network TV which sometimes I think should read "Watch what's scripted" Yet another random off tangent at 9:30 in the morning... I need to stop with this already... -
