Screamscape rumor of coaster removal at Cedar Point
Dvo replied to raptor's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I can't see Iron Dragon being removed.. It's a coaster with a really high capacity, and the footprint over the pond would be tough for putting in a wooden roller coaster, if that's what they were going for. However, I would love to see DT pulled. They've put a lot of money into re-theming it in recent years, and each time it just got worse. It's nice because you can walk on it almost all the time, but the ride is pretty bad if you ask me. -
I always wondered how the world would live through an ice age. I have no doubt that the human race would survive... but what would the world be like afterward? Would it just thaw out and return to how it was? Seems like there would be a lot of rebuilding to do, and all of today's knowledge would have to be passed down through it. Just a crazy concept.

I figured if they were posting it on Youtube it was going to be a revolutionary attraction. Not complaining, just a little surprised. -
Geek Trivia: Roller (Coaster) Derby
Dvo replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'm gonna have to agree. I don't know where the "geek" who wrote that article got his information, but I'm pretty sure every coaster site out there agrees that a hyper coaster is between 200 and 299 ft, giga is 300-399, and strata is 400-499. Do some research next time, you wannabe geek! -
Great trip report! I don't know how you came up with that idea, but that's hysterical. The POV's are hilarious

KI needs a few web cams, too. Not the one on WCPO's site... that one is terrible.

I'm with flightoffear. B&M hypers are very questionable... some are very good (Apollo's Chariot, Nitro) while others are not... (Titan, Raging Bull). B&M has a horrible track record (no pun intended) for putting way too many trims on their rides. But for the most part, almost all Intamin hypers/gigas are really great rides. Go Intamin!

In terms of cola, I'd say that Coke has a better taste. Pepsi is a little more sweet. However... I like all of Pepsi's other products a LOT more than Coke's other products. Primarily because of Mt. Dew Though Sierra Mist is just as good as Sprite IMO.

Yeah I definitely agree that that drop isn't 85 degrees. But it still looks like it's going to be an awesome hyper... Of course I'm hoping there are no trims on the "airtime" hills. Right, Raging Bull?
-
Yeah I love AE. I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy it as much if there were longer lines for it though. Great job on the high capacity

Why don't they just make it a Montgomery Inn? Or even a Montgomery Inn Express, where they could have boneless riblets. Mmmmm, riblets

Footage from Americas Greatest Roller Coaster thrills 1995
Dvo replied to Gshoven's topic in Kings Island
Yeah I've seen this one. Isn't this the one where the guy and the woman are at SFMM, and they try to add a cheezy plot? My favorite rides on that video: Beast, Drachen Fire, Magnum XL-200. Least favorite: Cyclone! Sure, it's historic. But seriously. Cmon. -
To see the spot where the eagles once flew... And to ride all the other rides

^^^That is a cruel, cruel joke :'( I really had my hopes up.

6F Conference Call Information
Dvo replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
This is in no way what I expected a Six Flags conference call to be like. Here's a synopsis of how I thought this call would go: "Hey, what's up?" "Not much just doodling new roller coaster ideas." "Are you making sure to add tons of trim brakes on what would have been airtime hills?" "Yep." "Sweet." "Yeah so any ideas for this year?" "Eh you know. Let's do nothing and then tell everyone we made a ton of changes." "ok that sounds good. and let's double all our prices." "sweet. talk to ya next year." "k. cya." -
"Which is your favorite big wood coaster?" Voyage! At KI though... The Beast with Racer right behind it. In fact, Fairly Odd Coaster is in 3rd SOB = bottom of the list for me.

Stand-ups are becoming obsolete... Whatever is out there right now is probably all that you'll see for a long time. The major issue is dispatch time. Take for instance Mantis at CP. They bought 3 trains for it, but they don't use them because even with 2 trains, they stack every single time. Virtually every single time, there's someone who doesn't stand up "straight" so they have to re-unlock the seats, have that person stand up straight, and then lock again. Then they have to re-check every restraint. I'm a huge fan of the stand-up coaster, don't get me wrong. Mantis is one of my favorite rides at CP, and King Cobra is probably my all-time favorite coaster at KI. But I don't see any major improvements in stand-up coaster technology, and therefore I don't think that any parks will ever invest in one again. That is, unless a lot of the current ones are removed, and they become a rare commodity again.

Do we know that there will be trims on the hills? I haven't seen anything about that... and boy do I hope they don't. Like it was said above, they put a set of trims on the first airtime hill of Raging bull, and that just kills the ride for me. It's so awful and completely unnecessary IMO. I really hope they take the "MF" approach on this one and just let gravity do its thing.

Hooray for getting rid of the Paramount sign! Now let's just hope this marquis sign stays standing Oh and for the record... Drop Zone was a FANTASTIC movie!!! How can you go wrong with Wesley Snipes and Gary Busey?!?! I mean come on people!

So wait.... line jumping ISNT a sporting event?!?!?!
-
There's no doubt in my mind that CP will always be the flagship park. I'm sure KI will expand and improve as time advances. But as we've seen, CP keeps finding creative ways to improve their park, whether it be by stacking rides, or simply removing stuff for better things.

Yay KI Central! Love the site guys, Im really glad I joined
