As I looked at one of the animated maps of the park, say from 1972, there is a grassy area in front of the station in Hanna Barbera land, and no grassy area in front of the station in Oktoberfest. So now, I am not sure. Do you have shot from the Eiffel Tower of the station from 1974 that may show the stations?

The skyride station in the top picture looks like the one that was in Oktoberfest, while the bottom picture is the one that was in Hanna Barbera land. Am I incorrect? I say that because it appears that the 1974 picture is slightly elevated on a hill, there is a lot of grass around it, and I do not see anyting behind it, whereas we should have seen the Marathon Turnpike, perhaps, if it was the one in Hanna Barbera land. Thanks for the great picture! And remember, no throwing objects or spitting from the goldola cars.

It looks like The Vortex's trains are already off the track and ready to go for their off-season maintenance.

Giving them away is probably cheaper than paying the fee to dump them.

It seems that there are a lot of places that sell temporary tattoos that are in the shape of a smalll paw print for about .15 to .20 each. There are many different colors and some different shapes. I have seen people have them on the faces for sporting events for their favorite team and such. So, for $10 you could get 50 or so. No mess, no hassle, no pain. It will be here today, and gone next week. If you don't like it, move it to a different spot, or change the color. For $10 buck you cannot go wrong. A friend of mine got one on his leg and is now puts coverup make-up on it when ever he goes golfing or is at the country club pool with the corporate big wigs. He regrets ever having got it.

Why do people hate the Paramount Period of KI?
sam2cpa replied to RD Reynolds's topic in Kings Island History
No hate here.... -
Was there not going to be a book about the history of Kings Island? Charles J. Jacques, Jr has written several books about other amusements parks, including Kennywood, and Hersheypark. I remember reading an article several years ago, perhaps 2004 or 2005, that he was going to be at a library in the Cincinnati area to talk to people and get their stories about their experiences at KI. That was the last that I had heard.

There are 2 other books worth mentioning: One is The Unofficial Guidebook to Paramount's Kings Island by Charles Infosino. It is available from www.orangefrazer.com. It has a section titled "History of Paramount's Kings Island," and another called "The Birth of Kings Island." These sections cover 6 pages in the book. Another is called Between the Miamis, which is a brief history of the area around Kings Island by H.E. Himes. Chapter IX is titled "From Kings Mills to Kings Island" and dedicates 8 pages to Kings Island.

Very well said. I remember the music on International Street that was played in the later part of the evening in the '70's and 80's. It made me feel as if I need to hurry up and get another ride in, buy one more slice of fudge, and stop in one more shop. Then find a good place to watch the fireworks, perhaps near the fountain, maybe grab some pizza and watch it from one of the patio chairs. The music, combined with the mist from the fountains, and the fireworks made for a perfect ending to a very fun day. I guess that that mood has stayed with me, but the music set the tone and has left some good memories of KI.

Cedar Fair's 3rd quarter conference call was this week, and here is a portion of the conference call transcripts. Mr. Kinzel said: "We will also be upgrading and rebuilding the children’s areas at five of our parks, while three other parks will be introducing a night time light show on display that proved very popular with guests at Cedar Point this past year. We have found that attractions like this are not capital intensive but resonate well with our guests bringing a new layer of entertainment to our parks. In 2010, we will also be investing an upgrade to our accommodations and general park appearance. I believe we have an excellent overall entertainment package lined up for our parks for the 2010 season. Fundamentals of our business have not changed. Our parks are a family tradition and we believe they will continue to be for many generations to come." The entire transcript can be found at the following link: http://seekingalpha.com/article/170967-ced...call-transcript

I would love to see the classical world music come back. It set the mood for International Street. Even more so when the ambiance was 'international" when the stores with a European flavor were there. I got out my 1984 brochure and it had the folowing stores listed on International Street: The German Building, The Spanish Building, The Swiss Shop, La Pasteleria Cookies, Sausage Haus, Apline Chalet, and, of course, the International Restaurant. Bring back the music!

It almost seems like you can pay $225 to be allowed to be a "line jumper" at the haunted attractions. Yikes! My pockets are not that deep.

A friend of mine had a pair of clip-on sunglasses on while riding The Beast. He sat in front of me on the ride. The clip-on's flew off, bounced off of me and into my lap. I was able to hold on to them for the rest of the ride. Boy, was he glad because he had purchased them just a little while earlier.

Very well said.... During one of the past Fear-Fest weekends we went to purchased a blue ice cream. They were being very generous, making the portions large enough for two share, thus only having to purchase one cone. If we ordered the ice cream in a cup, we would not have anyting to eat it with because they were 100% out of spoons. If we ordered it in a cone, by the looks of everyone else around with the same thing it would have been a total mess because it was warm out that day, and the ice cream was not frozen enough. A no win situation, but at least the worker sincerely appologized. We opted for the ice cream in a cup and found forks at another stand nearby.

Great idea RailRider. Eating kielbasa and sauerkraut and listening to "Roll out the Barrel" by a live polka band sounds like winner. The Festhaus would then be a great place to take an afternoon break. Bring back the Bavarian Beetle!! Does a Tilt-a-Whirl ride in the park sound like a thought?

Skyscraper to spin at Cedar Point's Challenge Park News Release 2/12/08 SANDUSKY, Ohio – Just when you thought that they couldn’t possibly add any more thrills and wild rides to the shores of Lake Erie, Cedar Point amusement park/resort has announced that Skyscraper, a towering thrill ride, will debut this summer in the Challenge Park activity complex. Skyscraper will be unlike any ride you have ever experienced on the Cedar Point Peninsula. Featuring a giant propeller consisting of two arms that will spin guests in a full circle, Skyscraper is one of the most thrilling rides in the amusement industry. Four riders, two on each arm, will sit in open cars with their feet dangling, on opposite ends of the propeller. The arms of the propeller quickly rotate in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, spinning riders 16 stories into the air at speeds of up to 55 mph. At its highest point, riders will be upside down 160 feet above the ground! The hair-raising ride lasts approximately two minutes. Onlookers can take part in the fun by watching a live streaming video of the passengers screaming in delight as they soar through the air. Riders aboard Skyscraper will have the opportunity to purchase this memorable video after completing their thrilling ride. Manufactured by Gravity Works, Inc., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Skyscraper will welcome its first passengers when it opens to the public in May. Skyscraper will have an individual ride fee, and admission to Cedar Point will not be required. “We are very excited about introducing a ride of this caliber to Challenge Park,” said Bill Spehn, vice president of park operations for Cedar Point. “Skyscraper will be a great addition to the thrilling rides and experiences that we offer our guests this summer.” Located between Cedar Point and Soak City, Challenge Park also features the RipCord Skycoaster, two high-speed go-kart tracks and two challenging 18-hole miniature golf courses. Challenge Park is open to the public, and admission to Cedar Point or Soak City is not required. Each attraction requires a separate fee. Special combo packages that include discounted tickets for the attractions at Challenge Park will be available this summer.
