  1. Yeah I have to agree with you about the Gold Passes. It is only five bucks more - so pretty much everyone gets the gold anyway. They should limit it and treat the gold pass holders more special. And don't get me wrong about my comment above - I too am one of the parks big fans - but when they make decisions like shaving off those extra hours at the end of the night, they are thinking about all the families that don't spend time at the park. The park makes its money from families who go to the park and buy food and drink and ice cream and tshirts and hats and those spinny glowing things and on ride for every ride. They don't make a lot of money off guys like us who pay 100 bucks a year for a gold pass, buy the special cups with the $2 refills and don't buy food and souvenirs. So yeah - they are going to make decisions with the business in mind.
  2. Well I can see the decisions. There were nights in summer where the park would stay open an hour or two after fireworks (10pm). Everybody would leave, and I remember sitting down at Troika getting 3-5 cycles an hour. Vortex would have like 8 or 9 people on each train. We even cycled empty trains! It just makes sense to shave off those extra hours, as the public for the most part does not attend during these hours.
  3. It is actually a quadruple post as she got the last post on page 6. How utterly annoying! So how's that petition going to keep the name Beastie? About as well as the one to keep the Flying Eagles?
  4. On a few occasions, while doing my routine power-walk back to Vortex, I was accosted by Matt... As far as Nights of Fire - I bet what they are doing is closing the park at 10, then doing the fireworks, then everyone goes home. In the past they reopen some rides after the fireworks - but it is kind of pointless. From what I saw last year, alot of people go home after the fireworks anyway - and not all of the rides reopen. The ones that do are only open for an hour. I imagine that for gold pass ERT they will allow gold pass holders through the gate early. Also they may do that with ACE members - requring proof of membership. As it was last year - anybody could walk back on the ACE walkback.
  5. Considering they like to use layers of atmosphere to name them - ionocoaster I guess... Or Van-Allen coaster...
  6. And gone with them are the nagging realizations (to an associate running late) that there are guests roaming International Street, which means its at least 9:00, which means the associate ain't gonna make it in time! But Klockster is good with watching the clock - thats why I am never late! Hablo can vouch for that one!
  7. I agree with the interpreter. Although I don't think Toomers coasters are extremely well designed, I do like them, and you have to consider he was a pioneer. And Legend Rider, I am going to have to throw a dictionary and a book on grammar at you. But yeah you are correct in your post, the reason the second loop is lower, is to account for the loss in velocity due to friction between the loops.
  8. I say they are just doing work on the websites. They were doing some work on them this time last year. Anyone remember the "Weasels doing backflips and Judo"?
  9. MTV should be utterly destroyed...
  10. Well some kind of stiff wire. He would bend it to get cool looking layouts - then design the coaster on paper to follow his wire model. And he always did it on paper - he never used computers. Did everything by hand. Thats why, like railrider said, on all the other Arrow megaloopers except Vortex, that first hill, where Vortex has that pop of airtime, would usually end in a loop. It would be a straight slope upward with a loop at the top. He couldn't tailor his elements to properly fit the situations. He had one loop, one Corkscrew etc. That's also why his boomerangs are so bad. Its a half corkscrew into a half loop. I mean - for all intents and purposes - you could say he designed his coasters with Roller Coaster Tycoon 1. You know how you just click insert vertical loop and it pops in - with no control over its size or tightness... Also Ron Toomer refused to ride any of his coasters!
  11. Looks like Copters, Squid, Hamtons, Handcars and Screecher are GONE!!!!! I'll miss screecher. As for the other ones...
  12. Can you imagine what kind of Star Trek ride PKI could build with 100 million?
  13. I think everything will work for the best - just relax. The worst case scenerio, as said earlier, would be if we were bought by Six Flags - and they aren't in a position to buy parks. Just sell parks.
  14. That Star Trek concept would be teh r0x0rz!!!! I would ride it 1000 times!
  15. I think that PKIC will be buying the parks! Check it out! PKIC is an investment group!
  16. If it was Microsoft Kings Island - Troika would be - Control, Alt Delete instead of Shake Rattle and Roll!
  17. Yeah it is all about transitions. Look at Vortex. Going into the loops, it could do a swooping drop that would curve nicely into the loops, but it goes straight down, then pulls up into the loops real quick you just get punched with this big whop of g force. Then the corkscrews. Coming out of the block brake, you drop straight down, then twist sideways, travel sideways for a second then are sucked up into the first corkscrew. Then coming out of the corkscrew, the track just twists and slams you against the side. Basically you could nitpick and find bad transitions every single time Vortex makes a change in elevation or direction. The entire thing is a series of bad transitions...
  18. Yeah I would say don't do it then. Rides is the only thing I would ever do. And it has got to be a fun and awesome classic ride with minimal theming!
  19. Keep in mind that as part of CBS - we aren't getting anywhere near what we make in profits. Meaning that the money we make in profit goes back to CBS - then CBS lets us have a little bit of it. With a private group - CBS would get the money for the licensed theming - but then the profit made by the Paramount Parks, for the most part, would go back into getting better rides and maintaining the ones we have - at the same time earning a sizable profit for the investment group. Then also, CBS doesnt have to worry about running the parks. So everybody wins! Especially the theme park goers!
  20. You all are still assuming that it is going to be bought by a group already in the theme park industry... Like Universal, Disney, Six Flags, Cedar Fair etc. I think the only one of those who could buy the parks is Universal - and they probably wont. It will more than likely be a group we haven't really heard of.
  21. By old school approach, are you referring to the bending of coat hangers into cool looking shapes?
  22. I would raise some height reqiurements and staff the park better.
  23. Most likely an Investment group of some kind. It could actually be really good for the park. They could run the park and license Paramount brands. To us, this will probably mean very little - except bigger and better rides in the future than Paramount is capable of giving us. The company will stay pretty much the same - it will just be owned by a different parent company. Look at Universal - it is owned by an investment firm - not Universal Studios. I think this can only be good news for us. Knowing you guys though you are probably going to panic... So - I would say don't worry about it - you won't see that big of a change. But go ahead and panic - not much else to do in the offseason.
  24. I would put a giant can of Folgers in the grass next to IJST.
