Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)

If it's the trail of rocks running down the side of the screen near Rivertown Junction then I think that's actually going to be an artificial stream running into the splashdown area. There are more rocks that are under the track before it enters the splashdown, which are there for scenery. The rocks I was talkign about are out of frame in this picture. They are the one's that Shaggy is refering to behind the storage shed. -

I noticed there is a pile of rocks sitting near the splash down. You guys suppose that is for landscaping in and around the pool? -
I thought I caught a glimpse of The Bat's station from top of second lift hill. hard to tell though where it is a little blurry.

2009 is the first year I have purchased a season pass. Does KI normally do this kind of thing each year for loyalty?

New Roller Coasters To Make Debut in 2009

If I was in charge I don't know that I would make any major expenditures that were not already agreed to until this economic situation blows over. I would not want to see them in the same shape as six flags. -

The answer varies alot. For example, Chang at SFKK was originally painted yellow but it started flaking off the year it was installed. Soon after they painted it I believe purple and yellow but it faded after a year or two. 3 or 4 years ago they painted Chang yellow and blue and it is holding up very nice. Edit: I should add that I'm not implying the reason the blue and yellow paint job is holding up better is because of the color. In fact color probably doesn't have to do much with how well the paint holds up except you'll probably notice darker colors fading faster etc. I really like the yellow and blue. It was green and purple before and that was really ugly. I am sure it also has a lot to do with the quality of paint and the prep work. I would assume it cost quite a bit to paint a coaster. I would want to do it right so it last as long as possible. -

so how long does paint generally last on steel coasters before ti starts looking bad? -
The Voyage took me a few rides to lose the intimidation factor, but I enjoy it now. I am generally more worried about getting sick than being scared of a ride.

The smoothest Coaster, I have ever, ever ridden! Mind Bender is great! Mine actually was Mystery Mine at Dollywood and Thunderhead. Mystery Mine was a large let-down, and Thunderhead was amazing, it just flat out attacks you! Now, I am looking forward to Voyage and Fahrenheit. I found Thunderhead to be a letdown and Mystery Mine to be amazing... lol I guess it is all in what you like. I enjoyed them both but Thunderhead is more my type of ride. I like every Coaster at Dollywood though.

I rode Manhattan Express about 10 years ago and don't remember it being particularly good or bad, however I do remember that there was a woman in line ahead of me that looked exactly like Boss Hogg from The Dukes of Hazard. Now that was scary.

I agree. On a personal note I measured my son the other day, and he will fit on FOC this year. Can't wait to ride it with him. Sorry for DP, but whats FOC? Fairly Odd Coaster or some still call it Beastie. Oh haha, well ill stick with Beastie It will always be Beastie to me, unless they come up with a new name that is better. Farily Odd Coaster is the worst name for a Coaster in the world and a shame to put it on such a nice little ride.

nice pics. thanks for the shot of the new Beast entrance path. anyone else have some more shots of this?

I have not been on that ride since it was days of thunder, but sad to see it closed. that whole little section of the park is run down.

I have wondered this myself. I would think this would be just as good a place to expand as any. -

What is the "Beast graveyard?" -
does not matter to me, but my buddy was upset because he was planning on going that night. I probably won't make it up until a few weeks after opening weekend anyway.
