What rides will be at KI when you bring your kids there?
KIfan1980 replied to KI FANATIC 37's topic in Kings Island
I'm pretty sure every single ride at the park will still be there when I bring my kids to KI. I really don't see any significant changes happening before ... Sunday -
Agree, the ride closed signs will not cause many people to turn around and leave (although I'd bet Terpy has found a ride closed somewhere and decided to move on to another park before). For me, they help plan the day and avoid the inconvenience of walking to a ride to find it down.

Just looking for some quick advice for an upcoming trip to Knott's Berry Farm - note that I have searched and read up on some of the trip reports and Knott's threads so have a good feel for the coasters and some of the in the park items: Yes, I will make sure not to miss Jaguar! No, I do not wear glasses, so the quite silly rule will not apply to me I'll do some research to help me find the parking lot My questions, where I'd like some help: What is the general vicinity outside the park like - if the wife and kids get tired and want a break or if we decide to leave to grab dinner, is it a fairly safe area with easily accessible restaurants? Any recommendations? Park doesn't look huge - since we are visiting on a late July midweek day, should we think of it as an all day event or should we look for something else to do nearby? Any recommendations? Appreciate any help!

and to be honest that sounded like a forced press release. This was my thought when I read this, and I thank you Ryan for getting and sharing this information, but it also continues to point to a area that I think KI could leverage to improve their public image - communication. Based upon some of the comments here today, I went back and looked at their Facebook posts - there is no communication from the park about the issue, there is no response from the park to concerns posted, and there is also very little information shared from the park in any of the news stories either that I recall seeing. While responding to concerns on FB may not be the best approach (just ask some members here), I'd imagine that a post from KI with the information that Ryan posted, an apology from the park for any inconvenience, and Guest Relations phone number would help. Same in the news articles.

The Top 10 Theme Parks For Summer
KIfan1980 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Easier than finding Flying Turns... And CP as 1....over WDW. No IOA, and yet it mentions Harry Potter. SFGAm, not SFGAd or SFOT or SFOG. And the new Dark Knight. And CP to KI in three hours.... Somebody stop me now! Corrected your original post in italics. -
You must not like these family members very much if you let them pay full price!

Rides being open or closed is a matter of perspective. If you walk by 2 or 3 times and it is closed each time, to you it was closed ALL night. If you walk by 2 or 3 times and it is open each time, to you it was open ALL night. I think we can safely say that rides like WWC and RFYLCB had some inconsistent operation last night.

In my opinion, blanket refunds should not have been given, however In the interest of customer service, something should have been done to ensure customers who paid to get into the park don't leave disgruntled. I do not know what was done, but at the very least, the park should have been handing out coupons for discounted admission on a future trip. This might have cost them nothing ( discounts are already available at Kroger/Meijer, etc...), but would have certainly had a positive impact on PR. Think about the ending go that news story. Would it have been better with a comment that anyone inconvenienced by today ls outage was given a coupon for a cheap return trip than a comment that no refunds were given.

It could get interesting as there are reports (facebook) about a "widespread power outage" at KI right now - 8pm.

Thanks for sharing the pics - I especially like the one of Blue Streak! BTW, if you are going to post the link to the full album on Facebook, could you please adjust the privacy settings for that album to allow us to see it.

Where is the "other" option. I think the new blue paint job on Woodstock Express looks awesome (I also like the yellow and orange combo on Flying Ace). In the end, I went for Racer (historical) - with a nice coat of paint, the beauty of a white wooden coaster stretching down Coney Mall is an incredible sight.

Yesterday in line for Vortex I noticed that the entire crew running the ride was wearing shirts and ties - typical supervisor/manager attire. At least one had a gold name tag - can't say as I know exactly what that means (I'm sure there is a code to all the nametag colors though). It seems like this could be a good thing, keeping those in leadership positions in touch with what the ride ops deal with on a daily basis - the question I have is whether this is a common/normal practice? As for how they were doing, since somebody might want to know. They had good dispatch times, had the mechanics of the job down well, but seemed to be missing the "energy" in the guest interactions that the normal crews have (example - it felt like the "welcome back, how was your ride" was being read versus asked).

Holiday World 2011
KIfan1980 replied to Diamondback96's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
and both have been struggling with ride vehicles in 2011. Hope GG gets theirs worked out soon. -
There is at least one KIC member who's taken a trip to first aid after hitting a hand on the helix tunnel walls (paging KIruler). Also, the don't stand up requirement is less necessary now due to seatbelts and individual ratcheting lap bars. Riders today would be surprised how common it was when all that existed was buzzbars.

I won't say "best deal", but have stayed at Breakers several times. Remember, however that there are several generations of rooms at Breakers and some of them are very outdated (climb up stairs to the third floor, scratched furniture, hot hallways, old wallpaper, etc.). That said, you are paying for convenience, and I think it is worth it.

I had an interesting price issue recently at Festhaus. When trying to get a refill of my kids cup - sold 100 yds away in Planet Snoopy, there was mass confusion around whether they could refill it at all. Then eventually after they did it rang up as $2.49 - more than my adult refill.

Edit - sorry, double post

What is the Cedar Point Chairlift system that spans the length of the park? I obviously screwed up walking so much.

Shoot The Rapids, Now Open (June 26)

And they announced it via tweeting/facebook? Good thing the person in charge of social media already got her promotion. -
When evaluating upgrading vs buying tickets, you need to take several things into account: - how much did you pay for your Gold Pass. You'll pay the difference between that and the current Platinum Pass price to upgrade (may be much more than $60) - what price will you pay for tickets. Staying at some properties provides "free" parking and the chance to buy significantly reduced tickets - will you spend full days, or could you use a starlight pass (5pm - close) the first day. These are again discounted - what other PP benefits would you use - free fries with a burger at one restaurant for example My family stayed at Breakers last Sunday night and did the park Sun/Mon and didn't upgrade.

All - thanks for the comments, I appreciate you reading. Jackson - yes I rode Wildcat. Fun ride. I also rode Jr. Gemini (where I think I out-aged all the other riders combined) and Woodstock Express to fill out my CP credits. Fanatic - looks like I need to get my SON a haircut and some bigger muscles.

Since I've been talking about going back to Cedar Point (for the first time since ~2002), my wife decided to make a reservation at Breakers Hotel for Fathers Day. We drove up Sunday morning, spent some time at the Beach in the afternoon, before I got my "present" (starlight ticket for me while wife and the kids had dinner/went to bed). This gave me an opportunity to ride the big coasters before we had a family day at the park on Monday. Some quick details and thoughts: Park was empty on Sunday night - In 5 hours at the park, I got 15 rides: Dragster (a blast but not a favorite for me), Power Tower (Shooting up is the best IMO), Wicked Twister (fun), Disaster Transport (credit added, no need to repeat), maXair (I preferred over Delirium), Blue Streak (classic), Raptor (still good, but has dropped out of my top 5 steel), Mantis (I still enjoy standups), Millennium Force (how can people say this is forceless?), Mean Streak (I love wooden coasters - enjoyed SoB last year, but this is a never again ride), CCMR (ok), Skyhawk (loved it), Gemini (better than I remember), Magnum (yeah for ejector air), and Maverick (awesome ride, not a fan of the restraints) Park is awesome - it has some of the most thrilling coasters and extreme flats around I especially like that they have a ton of "family" flats that are fun without being extreme - Calypso, Tilt-a-Whirl, Matterhorn, Super Himalaya, Tiques, Troika, Skyride, Paddlewheel Excursions, etc.... I wish Kings Island had a few more of theirs from the past (Tiques, Bayern Kurve, Eagles immediately come to mind) What I think is missing from CP is a ride-able large wooden coaster (maybe coming soon?) and more interesting rides in the family coaster category - I'm not sure I'd miss Iron Dragon, Corkscrew, CCMR, or Disaster Transport It was fun riding with my 6 year old as he broke 200', although it is a little scary that he had no fear and kept his hands up the whole way - can you say apples/trees or chips/blocks? A couple of my iPhone pics Nice view of MF through the trees. This structure looks awesome at night. I love the way MF carries its speed back past the station. Another barrier is broken Edit - not sure why two pics are turned. I'll try and fix tomorrow.

While I agree with Terpy, I'd also voice support for your concerns. As an example, my son turned 48" last year but I held him off loopers like Vortex until this season and didn't let him ride Millenium Force or Mean Streak at CP this weekend as I was concerned about the forces these rides could exert on a six year old. It also will give him something new to ride next year. Trust yourself to make the right call for your family member with faith that the park/manufacturer have dealt with their part.

Cool Trip Report - nice to see you joining the discussion on the forums and you've got a much more unique user name than your Dad! As for your Dad getting lost ... I seem to recall that you've also shown a tendency to walk away from the group also. Thank goodness for your Mom keeping track of everyone - she even came looking for me after I got separated from the group once!

I didn't see Ricky Racoon, I don't even know who he is! Jackson - unfortunately I'm not going to HW on Sunday, although I'm sure y'all/Will we cross my mind more than once. The good news is my wife scheduled a trip to CP to celebrate Fathers Day. Nick - I don't think the Ricky Racoon story has been told, so time to step up and share. Agree - proudly showed my HWN bruise more than once last week. I highly encourage folks to sit behind Sparky and watch him doing this - even if you can't keep up, it is hysterical to watch, but in truth - it does help.
