BUSCH PARKS: BLACKSTONE, now what?
shark6495 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Eh but most people rightly or wrongly assume that if it's being aired on CNN it has a measure of truthfulness to it. Discovery Channel used to run a 100% fact based shark week. Now they don't. For some people it's hard to make the logical jump to self study. -
Will there ever be an *Official* Son of Beast Documentary
shark6495 replied to DontWantToWait42mar0's topic in Kings Island
I have no dog in this fight, couldn't care less. From a park stand point, sure recognize the ride etc. From a media side and PR side, what is the point of this ride as a doc? What story does it have to tell? Does it make people want to come to KI more? The ride only pushed the boundaries of height and speed. Again, there are better coasters in this state, heck in the park, that would be better as a documentary. *** cantwaitfortomorrow if you want a doc, go and make one. Independent film makers can approach a company with an idea. Story board. Request media interviews. Track down former workers, etc. -
I have freely admitted on here that I have very little idea of which rides are made by which company. My favorite ride hands down is The Bat and/or Big Bad Wolf followed by The Beast. Top Thrill Dragster and Banshee tie for the next spot. One of the worst rides I have been on was Raptor (just didn't enjoy it) and Maverick.

Will there ever be an *Official* Son of Beast Documentary

Oh wow you were working there when it happened? Yes. In Action Zone... I'll only say the that particular day is when I began to despise news media and my hate towards them became more apparent few years later over another incident in another park under another chain. That's for another discussion entirely...those who know me know the one in which I speak. Since I would be extremely shocked that there is ever an *official* SOB documentary, perhaps the title of the thread should be changed so it isn't misleading. As a former media member, I am truly sorry you have such disdain towards the field. -
Cancelling our Comcast service was without question the worst experience I have ever had with any company. Time Warner is definitely no better. I had service through them in my dorm at college. When I moved out, I cancelled it. I have service at home already, so I didn't need to move that service with me. I called up the representative to cancel and I was assured that my service had been terminated. No equipment to drop off because I own my own cable modem (which cost me $20 on Amazon and saved $5 a month from my bill. Highly worthwhile) The next month, my credit card got charged by them, precisely the amount of my old bill. So I called again to ask what the heck was going on. They refunded my card and assured me that it was cancelled again. The next month, I received another charge from them. So I called again. And demanded another refund. And another cancellation. And told them to go ahead and cancel my home internet and cable, too. By the end of the call, I got my money back (again), was assured that it was cancelled (again) and got off the phone with my home service intact (which I really didn't WANT to cancel anyway, but I needed a bargaining chip and was willing to switch to Cincinnati Bell if absolutely necessary) and my bill on the home service cut in half for a year. Finally, the charges stopped. But I watched my statements like a hawk for months after that. On the one hand, I guess it worked out in the end. On the other hand, it was cumulatively HOURS that I spent on the phone sorting that out, and time is money... That is why I am hesitant to set up automatic payment schedules. Just dont trust these companies sometimes....

I would take it a step farther. To put the time and energy into a failed coaster that was around for a few years is sort of a waste of time. Sure give it 10 or 15 minutes, but 75+ minutes all on its own? That would be rougher than SOB's helixes..... With so many more interesting and game changing coasters and rides, why this one? It wasn't the first wooden coaster with a loop. It was the biggest but overall it suffered from poor craftsmanship. There are at least 6 coasters still standing in the state of Ohio that would warrant a documentary of its own. -
BUSCH PARKS: BLACKSTONE, now what?

Seaworld needs to almost go on the offensive similar to McDonalds. 30 second TV spots saying check out "FHFHF.com" to get the real answers. Then its just has the weekly/monthly question being answered through a infotainment video. McDonald's can show you in 3-5 minutes how they make the chicken McNugget, Seaworld can show you in 3-5 minutes the care they give the animals....- 224 replies

Sounds like a dining room logistics nightmare. A ticket is printed in the kitchen (on the ground). Cooks make the food. The food is then either carried up 50 feet (5-10 minute walk?) or up an elevator (2-3 minutes). Then its put under a warming light till someone is capable of taking the food to the table. If something is wrong/etc then well thats a nightmare. Not to mention drinks. 6-10 minutes just for a drink to return (under a no wait situation). Does the elevator even stop (able to stop) at the 50 foot platform?

Agreed. Just didnt know if I could rock the polo shirt with khakis and dark shoes or if I had to go with a button down.

At the Signature locations what kind of dress is required?

It depends on how much they invest. Imagine they invest a good chunk of money, bring in a world renowned Chef to make it one of Cincinnati's top restaurants. You can eat there 365 days a year. Then maybe. But there is a longer than usual walk from the parking lot to the restaurant. But then again, the Montgomery Inn Boathouse fixed the long parking lot problems with a valet. If the food is good and the atmosphere is nice people will come.

AVATAR Is Going To Animal Kingdom
shark6495 replied to Avatar's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Ultimately, I think thats going to be what keeps its wow factor. It will be cool. People will come back not because its related to Avatar but because its so neat. -
Wait...clearly I'm slow and have never heard this before...but, seriously? What were they thinking? I understand that in certain industries there may be acceptable levels of life safety risks. However, I can't imagine that most amusement parks would forgo their reputation and guest safety for a ride. That's a dangerous game to play, in more ways than one. http://articles.courant.com/2004-05-04/news/0405040040_1_roller-coaster-lap-bars-or-seat-superman-roller That in the article that states from 1999-2004, 5 people were ejected from an Intamin ride.... I just tried to look up deaths/serious injuries on Intamin rides since 1991: 1991: Flight Commander at KI (fell from ride, death) 1999: 2- Ride of Steel at Darien Lake (ejection, death) and Drop Tower at Great America (fell from ride, death) 2001: Perilous Plunge, Knotts (fell from ride, death) 2004: 2- Hydro at Oakwood (fell from ride, death) and Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England (Ejection, death) 2007: Tower of Power at Kentucky Kingdom (feet cut off) 2011: Ride of Steel at Six Flags Maryland (Ejection, death) 2012: Drop Tower ride in Brazil (fell from ride, death) 2014: Inferno in Spain (fell from ride, death) So I guess the answer is 8 deaths in 15 years is acceptable....

It would be interesting to see if gif form the original, then a 90s, then today. Well done though. Thank you for making it. Even if it does make me sad about the removal of green things.

Maybe Im being cantankerous, which is a possibility, but just the way you worded it made me laugh. "Hey whoever wins, after you pay the man, show off all the cool stuff so I dont have to pay to see it." Or thats how I read it. Plus there is a slight difference between "look at the cool stuff I have collected over the years and pictures I took" vs "I just paid hard money so Im going to share it with people who didnt help me pay for it" eh to each there own.

They did. Thats awesome. So cool they do that. And Thats part of the Magic Maker experience?
-
Then you should pay them to help off set the costs so you can enjoy them.

Let it die. If someone wants to post they will. Don't just keep a thread alive to keep it alive.

I think my favorite part of the map is the almost 2 week spread in May and the last two weekends where they may or may not be open, check back and see... oh and the random day in June where there are bought out for half the day. Everyone go home early, someone else purchased the park from here on out...
