  1. ^So you're trying to put me on the defensive? Ok then, I'll bite. I didn't say that. I was simply speculating of what *likely* happened since I saw it happen myself from time to time while working on Beast crew. I had the same thing happen to me 30 years ago on the long-defunct Glissade coaster at BGW prior to your even being born. http://www.rcdb.com/1116.htm?p=23320 I bent down and to the right when the coaster made a hairpin turn to the left - hitting my head on the side rail of the car in the process. What I recall was that my embarassment was far worse than my injury. It wasn't my fault, nor was it his, nor was it the park's... it was simply an unfortunate accident. I feel bad for the kid. Thankfully, you were decent enough to recognize that the park was not at fault in your incident and just move on. These days, there are still some people around that are decent enough to recognize that (I hope everyone on these forums is such a person), but they're getting less and less common. Many people these days will sue for anything and often for ridiculously high "damages". It's a sad society we live in today.
  2. ^^And I'll repeat myself: Sad, but in this day and age, it's the truth. Lawyers these days will find any hole in the rules they can to get a lawsuit through. If that guide just says that and does not warn that injury may result if you do not ride in that position and that by boarding the train, you are agreeing to release KI from any and all liability that could possibly result and they do not have prominent signs posted in the station flashing to make them impossible to miss, they'll sue because someone wasn't properly warned of the potential consequences and/or didn't agree in advance to not hold KI liable for anything. Even if KI did all of that, they'll still find a way to sue because the kid wasn't old enough to understand the warnings or because the parents weren't present and the kid wasn't old enough to legally enter into the release of liability contract on his/her own. I swear that someday we're going to have to sign a release of liability contract every time we board an amusement ride.
  3. When did this turn into a general chat thread? Not that I'm complaining; it's nice to actually have civil, useful discussion in here instead of the same crap repeated ad nauseam.
  4. Having to ride in a certain position to avoid injury = having to ride defensively. Even if said position is the traditional "head back, facing forward, and holding onto lap bar". Lawyers quite clearly don't care about that. If they did, people wouldn't sue because they got injured on a roller coaster (see: Son of Beast). EDIT: How the hell do you break your nose on WWC?!?
  5. No, you're missing the point. What is this tournament?
  6. ^So you're saying that he was injured because he didn't know to ride defensively? Unfortunately, in this day and age, lawyers could have a field day with that!
  7. I voted a roller coaster because in an ideal world, that's what I want, which is what the poll is asking. However, if that were the case (especially if it were to be a big one) we probably would have seen signs of construction already. However, I also agree with Fire-Beast-OF FEAR in that I'll be happy with whatever we get. TheCrypt also has good ideas.
  8. Yes, it's still there in the same spot.
  9. Thanks for the report! Glad you had fun!
  10. The video itself is already being laughed at here: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/12811-guests-say-the-darnest-things/page__st__1560#entry469531
  11. I have no clue what this is either. Ya wanna clue me in here?
  12. I've never had an evac before and only one stopped ride, not counting routine turntable stops on WWC for wheelchair transfers or spacing between boats. The stopped ride was during Coasting for Kids this year; our train was stopped at the bottom of the lift because the lap bar for an empty seat in the back row wasn't down. They came out, put the lap bar down and started us back up within four minutes.
  13. Don't waste your time or money. I ate at RJ last Thursday around 1:00. I immediately got an very upset stomach that persisted until around 9:00 and limited what I could ride, and whatever was still in my stomach at 7:00 disagreed with dinner to the point that I almost vomited.
  14. Looking at the schedule, the only place an announcement could be made that I see is lunchtime.
  15. Wasn't it said somewhere that there would be a major announcement at this year's CoasterMania? Or is my brain making stuff up again? jcgoble3, noting that two things that appear to be related are not always such (especially since Cedar Point has an announcement of their own to make regarding a new coaster)
  16. Yes. He also did not specify a year, so that creates even more chances for him to be right. Also note the at the end of that statement. There's no harm in a little wild guessing; in fact, I'm going to state my wild guess that SOB's future will be announced at 2:00 pm on a Tuesday. That's just something I pulled out of my @$$ and does not mean that I have inside information or know anything you guys don't; I'm just having fun, like Picard is.
  17. The big blue and orange text in your signature doesn't suggest that.
  18. Firehawk...? Which I've never understood. What is the purpose of not allowing riders to leave bags in the station other than to force people to use lockers? Your items would actually be safer in Firehawk's station than any other coaster station (except the single-train coasters) because there aren't other riders running through the station while you're on the course. They allow flip-flops, prescription glasses, and souvenir cups to be left in the station, so what reason is there that you couldn't leave anything else? Don't give me the response of "Duh, there's no bins"; first, Invertigo does not have bins, yet riders may leave bags in the station, and second, the lack of bins now does not prevent them from installing bins later.
  19. Yes, I saw that as well. The cardboard sign was gone by late afternoon.
  20. Are you referring to the Timberliner delays on the Voyage? And on another note, I didn't mean to start such a ruckus with the comment about Woodstock Express. I just wanted to make sure it gets the credit it deserves. As others have said, it's a fun ride for it's size, and I do try to ride it at least once per season. Speaking of which, I haven't done that this season yet....
  21. Which contract is expiring? CF's Pepsi contract or the Coke contract inherited from Paramount (or at least that's my understanding of why some parks have one and others have the other)? Or are both expiring simultaneously?
  22. Glad I ran into you! After you left Drop Tower to head for Flight Deck, I headed back to Rivertown to do the water rides. I did the log flume and WWC, then came back to Congo Falls. With less than a minute wait on all of them, I was on CF not long after you were. I noticed that Delirium was testing during ERT and then closed I believe the whole day, so it must have been something found in morning testing. Anyway, I'm just now catching up on here because I stayed until the fireworks and thus did not get online at all yesterday, so that's why I'm so late to reply. Glad you had fun!
  23. Look at the second post in that thread and extend the red line. The alignment would be perfect even if it was where Action Theater is now. And now that I think about it, I too would love to have seen it in that spot. Imagine riding The Racer and seeing WindSeeker right in front of you as you crest the hill where the red and blue sides split off toward the turnaround.
  24. True. I was considering whether to buy FL for a day again this year, and being offered the discount made that decision. And the bring-a-friend ticket may be used to bring my dad, who's interested in coming to the park for a day but won't pay regular ticket prices because he finds them too expensive for someone like him that won't ride any of the rides.
