I can imagine being on a roller coaster lift hill, for example, on an otherwise calm day when sudden, occasional strong breezes blow through. I'm sure there are capacitors or something like that to ensure smooth "flow" of power, I just haven't read up on it. Quote

Energy can be stored in batteries but these are not ideal and improving their capacity and ability to hold power over time is the key. It's like my Prius, when I have energy built up in the battery the electirc motor runs on that. If I'm accelerating or goin fast the gas engine kicks in. Even a mix of soalr and wind is not completely reliable and note they said that the goal is to run completely on renewables. That's the goal at a lot of places but currently most have back up connections to the electric grid. I think this is an awesome move and I applaud them. Quote
