Camping in Sandusky

Featured Replies

I was thinking about camping in a tent the next time I went to CP, which will be in late May. Anyone have experience, good or bad, with the camp grounds there? I read a couple of reviews about Camp Sandusky that were pretty bad and now my wife is nervous about the bathrooms.

Thanks,

I have spent many nights in Camp Sandusky, and I have had no problems what so ever. The bathrooms aren't as clean as ones you may find in your house, but I think that they are good for campground bathrooms. I've camped in a tent, and once I got to stay in the small cabins they have there. The cabins are nothing more than a frame covered in wood with some bunk beds inside, but its a dry place to sleep. All of my trips have been pleasant, and I hope that yours is as well if you decide to go.

Stay at the KOA campground that's just off the causeway. It's called Bayshore Estates. Just make sure you ask them for a site as far away from the railroad tracks as they can put you, since there is one section of tent sites practically on top of the tracks. If you're lucky, you'll get a site where you can hear the waves on Lake Erie and it makes for a very pleasant background to sleep by. Their bathrooms are great, too - clean, modern, and nice big showers with plenty of hot water. It only took between 5 and 10 minutes to get from our tent to the parking lot at CP.

We stayed there in October during Halloweekends at a site with electric. Setting up a small ceramic heater, we had a very cozy tent, listened to the waves, and ate hot dogs cooked over the fire pit. It was a great experience, definitely one I'd do again.
