For the past months I've been anxiously awaiting opening day! I've been counting down the days, and finally it came. All friday at school I couldn't concentrate. After a long day of school I went home and watched Diamondback animations and testing videos, than I got ready. At about 3:30 I left my house and went to Mitchell's house. We were than on our way to KI! The drive there went by fast, and the anticipation increased as we got closer to KI. Than as were driving on I-71, out of no where Diamondback and Kings Island appeared. I hadn't seen KI in person since late December, so it was nice seeing my favorite place in the world again.

My mom and sister dropped me off at the drop off zone and me and Mitchell walked to the entrance where we found a long line to get out season pass processed. We ended up waiting about 45 minutes to get my platinum pass processed. After we got done, we met up with Bret and talked for a while. My mom picked me up again and dropped us off at Skyline down the street. A few other coaster friends were at Skyline (Adam, Don, Brian, Mark, ect.) Since my birthday was the day before, some of them got me presents. I got a few coaster magazines from Adam, and a Voodoo shirt and Hercules Pin from Brian. I got a 3-way, Mitchell got 2 Coneys. After an amazing meal at Skyline, Brian and a few people dropped me and Mitchell off at our hotel across the street. My Mom and Sister were at Applebee's. Me and Mitchell just hung out in the room for a while. I texted Danielle to she what she was up to and she was at the movies down the street. Me and Mitchell walked around the hotel (Motel 8.) It was very 1970's looking! I stared at Kings Island from a balcony than went back to the room and we watched Halloween. I fell asleep around 11 I think...

It's 4:45AM. and I hear my alarm go off. It's time to wakeup. I take a quick shower than while Mitchell takes his, I go outside and look at KI. It's pretty chilly outside so I go back inside. Brian comes pick us up and we go to McDonalds and grab a Sweet Tea. Adam texted me saying he's in the parking lot so we drive over there. We were one of the first cars there (maybe 3 infront of us.) After many minutes of waiting, they open the tolls. We grab a good spot and than run to the entrance. Sadly we couldn't find anyone we knew so we just waited alone, but luckily near the front. The person behind us talked about Kennywood most the time. So many hours later it's time to go inside the park for more waiting, it's barley light out! So we run to the right side of Int' St. and get stuck in the crowd near Scooby Doo & The Haunted Castle. Maybe 30 minutes later we are allowed to go to Diamondback! Everyone is running! We only had to wait about 10 minutes in line! Once I arrive in the station I'm assigned seat 8! Oh no... Worst seat on the ride, but still had a good ride. It was weird riding Diamondback for the first time, I felt like I was in the animation.

After my first ride on Diamondback the line is huge so we decide to move on. I meet up with Adam near DB's helix. He decides to ride Beast but me and Mitchell go to Son of Beast. The park isn't even open to the public yet. We walk slow and calm, I check the time near Viking Fury and it's just one minute before opening. We run and by the time we get to Delirium the running of the bulls happens and it freaks me out. It's creepy seeing hundreds of people running behind you. Most people went to Diamondback but all the rest are going to SOB. Were one of the first ones in line, we end up waiting 3 circuits for the front row. Son of Beast was running great, very smooth and fast!

I'm re-writing this paragraph as if December 6th. 2009, because I felt my paragraph wasn't detailed enough, but now I can't remember exactly what we rode after Son of Beast...

You have the same picture where your comment is "One of the test seats, and I don't like that Ride Operator...".

That is the second person to say something bad about an employee out at the entrance.

He wasn't bad at the entrance, but in the station he was rude and people were trying to ask him stuff and he wouldn't listen he just kept talking to other employees saying things like "Today is going by slow" and "I wish it was closing time", ect...

Part II

Well I thought I took alot more photos, but I guess not. Also, I'm in the process of making a video but it'll probably suck since I have never made one. Does anyone know how to have music in it without youtube deleting it?

KingsIsland509.jpg

Diamondback's sign looks much better with all the detail!

KingsIsland512.jpg

Paul, Zach, Ty.

KingsIsland513.jpg

Danielle.

KingsIsland514.jpg

Paul making a weird face with a ride op. looking at him.

KingsIsland515.jpg

Ty making a weird face with a ride op. looking at him.

KingsIsland516.jpg

Comparing cameras, Paul has the same as mine but an older one, Ty and Zach have the same as mine, but Ty's is silver, and Danielle is lame and doesn't have one.

KingsIsland517.jpg

About to go to Racer Red and after that Crypt, and than a Last ride on Diamondback.

KingsIsland519.jpg

One last photo of Diamondback!

Sorry for the bad quality, My new camera is great but I didn't have a tripod and wasn't on night mode.

I know we're derailing this topic, but I was reading the legal stuff on that website, and it is NOT free to use for things like YouTube videos. If you use the music you are not supposed to post it on the internet, including in blogs, podcasts, file sharing sites, etc. So yeah, while it looks great on the top end, the 'free' part isn't really free.

IMO I did not think it was that crowded yesterday. Considering the weather, a brand new mega coaster, opening day, it really was not that bad. The longest I waited for anything was 90 mins for my first ride on DB.

I thought the same. yes, some of the lines were long, but it was NOTHING compared to the last Saturday of the season last year, or "Bring a Crowd Free" day (I forgot who on this forum called it that, but it was so appropriate) a couple years back.

Maybe that was the case but I couldn't justify waiting over an hour for The Beast. I guess I got spoiled last season. Plus we were waay tired and didn't feel like dealing with the crowds.

My crappy video of opening day.

I actually really enjoyed that footage. B Roll footage is really fun to watch especially on opening day. You had a lot of great shots of Diamondback. I hope to pump out a video of my own when I get to spend more time at the park.
