khaoskat
We just got back from CP, but our trip had an almost extra hour of drive time due to a bridge being out on 6 and having to do a long re-route through lots of back roads. Are there any other routes that will keep the trip to about 3 ish hours? The detour route is a bit long on the kids and therefor on parental nerves. Violakat03, gigacoaster2k, and I encountered this when we went to The Point for CoasterMania!. There is a road that runs parallel to that stretch of Route 6 about a mile away. If you drive it for a few miles and then turn back onto Route 6 you should be fine. Hope this helps!
BavarianBeatle
Where exactly is the detour? Is it before Freemont?
markhudson17
Sorry I can't help you. Whenever I go, we always take I71 to St Rt 250. It's the fastest way from where I live
khaoskat
Where exactly is the detour? Is it before Freemont? No, it is after Freemont somewhere on the last 17 miles of 6....right around where 6 and the Ohio Turn pike cross paths if I remember correctly... indianapolisman
Theres a toll RD that takes the same amount of time. Not sure of the name. But seriously detour took us an extra 18min. Really not that bad.
gad198
If I recall correctly, the detour we took around that was as follows (from Route 6): Right on St. Rte. 510 Left on St. Rte. 412 Left on St. Rte. 101 Once you get into Castalia on 101 (at the light) you can either take St. Rte. 269 (left branch) or you can take St. Rte. 101 (turn right). Both will connect you back to US Rte. 6, but 101 will actually bring you almost all the way into Sandusky. EDIT: The detour takes right around 15 mins extra. khaoskat
We followed the detour signs and it had us gong to some town and back to 20, left turn about 1 block and left turn and follow that to 101 and not sure where it went after that as DH got his phone's GPS unit working again and we followed the directions from that. I think the detour signs had you going to 269 as we stayed on 101 and came out about 5 miles from the exit we wanted. Thanks.

Then I would recommend turning left on Route 53 and taking that up to the Turnpike. That's what we will do when we go this weekend.
