Holiday World PTR 6/28

My husband and I were in Indianapolis for the weekend and knew we'd be there till Monday, so we decided to head down to Holiday World. This was his first visit there, and like myself and Angie, he completely fell in love with the park. Though he claims he's not so much enamored of the park as he wishes they'd buy out Cedar Fair and Six Flags and run all their parks in the same way.

We wandered around looking at several things in the park for awhile, stopped to lather up on sunscreen, and finally went to our first ride of the day - The Legend. Being a hot, sunny Sunday, the park was pretty crowded and I experienced my first wait for a coaster at Holiday World ever. It took about 30 minutes to get through the 2 switchbacks that were open, up the stairs, and into the station. Once there, we decided we'd wait the extra 3 trains for front seat. I asked about the bell and the ride op said that the cord had broken to it but they hoped it'd be fixed soon and assured me the howl was turned on.

My husband and I enjoyed the ride. He really liked the theming and the headchoppers. After that, he was ready for the big boy of the park, The Voyage. I snapped some pictures as we walked to Thanksgiving.

Amazingly, even though The Raven and The Legend had semi-long lines, The Voyage ... was walk-on! Two trains later, my husband and I were in the front seat. I asked him as we pulled back in the station what he thought of it. He said "what's that one wood coaster at Kings Island? That really long one? I can't seem to remember it now." Voyage, you have another fan!

By this time we were so unbearably hot, that we took a break at Gobbler Getaway. As is normal, he wiped the floor with my score (900 something to 300 something), and then we decided on a food break. On to the Alamo, what has become my favorite place to eat at Holiday World. Then after letting our food settle a bit, reapplying sunscreen, and refilling our Gatorade, we headed for Liberty Launch. A short two-cycle wait later, we were on board. I'm still not sure whether I like the air time on it or not. It's a little violent!

Then it was back to the Voyage for another mind-blowing ride. We debated hitting Pilgrim's Plunge, but the line was humongous, so we skipped it, though I grabbed a great shot of one of the boats in the splashdown.

My husband wasn't feeling well at this point, I think he got overheated and hadn't slept well the night before. He wanted to head out to the truck to take a short nap, but wanted to make sure he got Raven first. So we hit up the then walk-on Legend (the park cleared out around 3 pm strangely) and then the Raven. He has the same opinion of Raven as I did - great coaster but too short!

At this point, he headed back to the truck to recover a bit, and I took the opportunity to shoot a lot of pictures, video clips for a future video I'm planning, my favorite spinning ride Turkey Whirl, and two more rides on Voyage, which had developed a nearly 30 minute wait as evening approached. My husband met me at the exit of Voyage after my second ride, and we headed for the Plymouth Rock Cafe for dinner. The food was wonderful, as I expected. Then we finished out our day of rides with two last rides in the front seat of Voyage.

We headed out of Thanksgiving just shy of closing time because we both desparately wanted a funnel cake, so we split a $2.49 funnel cake and then did some shopping. Finally it was time to leave one of my favorite places in the world, where we loaded up in the truck and headed out toward Louisville, as we discovered we'd wandered out of the Indianapolis dispatch area. This move turned out to be a great one, as it led to my trip to Worlds of Fun two days later.

The pictures I took during my husband's break, of the Voyage and some of the theming around the park.
