7D Rules
Since I am new here, I'm not sure if this has already come up yet. PKI announced this year that they are dropping out of the coaster race. Although I want to see new thrill rides as well, it seemed like it already took them enough time to decide on building a new coaster. Isn't this going to make the decision process longer concerning building a new one ? I think half of their problems stem from choosing the wrong companies to build them. Look at Face/Off and SOB. Although, SOB seems to work on a regular basis, F/O still has many problems and takes entirely too long to ride it.
StXBomber
Um... what are you talking about? I don't think they ever made a statement to that effect, and even if they did, it doesn't mean they won't build any new coasters!
flatbed
I didn't know that PKI was ever inthe coaster race. When did they make this announcement?
mars1825
First of all, PKI was never in the "coaster race". Secondly, PKI never made an announcement that they were "dropping out of the coaster race". PKI adds coasters when they think it is the right time to do so, they don't just add coasters to up their count.
Tanner
I am very satisfied with how PKI is handling themselves. If you ask me Face/Off is a great ride. To your "it takes too long to ride" go on days that aren't crowded! Simply solution! I would be very satisfied with Son of Beast, if I wasn't 6'4." Son of Beast is a quality coaster, it's just that I am over the "normal heights" so I am given a rough ride, no big deal. I have no other problems with rides in the park as far as fitting, so I am very satisfied with PKI. Edited January 1, 1970 by Aaron

Agreed.PKI stays on thier own level which is one of the reasons I love the park. But I will say..I think when PKI does bring in a new coaster..Brace Yourselves. It was 2000 since out last big coaster hit the scene..In my opinon..'05's gonna be huge. IcarusLives
I half to agree. The only parks populating this "coaster race" myth, are SFMM and Cedar Point. Ever since Superman: The Escape popped up, the two parks have been doing a "one up" approach to what they build. And I think they have suffered for it. SFMM is supposedly terrible with customer service and upkeep of the park and Cedar Point has almost forgotten their flat ride collection. PKI has taken a very smart approach to growing the park. They have added some decent coasters over the years but they have kept their flat ride collection strong. Their Kids section puts anything at any Six Flags park to shame. So let the other guys build the big coasters that are plagued with problems. I think PKI is the Decathlete of amusement parks. They may not be the best in a single category but overall they are the best park.
Guest Designerbuilder
No park has ever said they are in a coaster race. That's stupid! Though it appears SFMM and CP are racing they never said they were. They just get new coasters every year that doesn't mean they are in a race. PKI was never racing anyone and if they were they never said they would drop out. Thats stupid who would announce this "We are out of the coaster race its official." That just stupid! Sry but I don't believe there is a coaster race.
Aaron
If there wasn't a "coaster race" for the most coasters, then CP and SFMM would not be continuously adding coasters every year, just so they can take the title of "Most Coasters in the World" away from the other park. Also if they were in no "race" for the most coasters, CP would have never made a statement saying how Superman: The Escape at SFMM does not count as a roller coaster. Right now both of those parks just care about quanity, not quality.

SFMM is supposedly terrible with customer service and upkeep of the park and Cedar Point has almost forgotten their flat ride collection. Exactly! I took a trip to SFMM this summer, and I was impressed by their rides, but other than that I hated the experience. Superman was one of the most boring ride I had ever been on. You go fast, so what. I must admit, Scream is the best ride I have ever been on in my life, but two facts show park's flaws: 1. It's a clone. They put in a ride that people can ride at many other parks just to keep up their coaster count. I must admit, they cloned an amazing ride, but it's still a clone, not even the original. 2. Its a "Parking-lot Coaster". Don't know what I'm talking about? Look here: http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery216....htm?Picture=19 Look, you can even still see the lines in the ride area. They just stuck it in the middle of their parking lot. Whoever says there is no coaster race between CP and SFMM is full of it. I mean, TTD just goes really fast, really high, and thats it. I'm glad PKI didn't go the way SFMM and CP went, but PKI does need a new coaster.
IcarusLives
I agree with the "quantity vs. quality" statement. Cedar Point does have the most coasters but they have so many boring coasters. Junior Gemini, Corkscrew, Disaster Transport, Mine Ride, Woodstock are basically there to keep their total up. Okay, PKI's Taxi Jam is not exactly world class but the rest of PKI's line-up all provide decent thrills (although I have never ridden Ghoster Coaster). I would rather see PKI take their time and develop a well thought out and creative coaster rather than throw up some phallic shaped tower that takes 15seconds to ride. Guest Designerbuilder
First off Cedar Point does not have the most coasters its tied with SFMM. Second of all, can you tell me what Scream is a clone of. SFMM is indeed the best park i have ever been to and Cedar Point is awesome as well. O though PKI is my favorite park CP and SFMM out beat it. TTD is awesome and so is Superman. Stxbomber I'm starting to think you haven't been to CP or SFMM if you think Superman and TTD just are stupid. Some of their coasters are not cloned like X and Goliath. So don't go around telling people that the two best theme parks suck. Edited January 1, 1970 by Designerbuilder
StXBomber
I have been to both parks (as I said in my last post) and did not say the parks suck. I enjoyed my trip to CP, but I felt they only had 2 real great coasters, Raptor and Millie. SFMM also had some amazing rides, Scream is now my fav coaster. I probably would have liked X, but I didn't because I sat in the last seat, on the outside, and didn't know the outside seats bounced around like they did (I was in too much pain to enjoy the ride). I enjoyed almost all of their coasters, but I still did not like Superman. I am also not alone. http://www.themeparkcritic.com/scripts/Vie....asp?RideID=598 Go ahead and read some of the reviews. It has one of the worst ratings of a coaster in this park. I hated how loud it was, especially while waiting for Goliath (a ride which I absolutely loved). So this is what I am trying to say, SFMM has amazing coasters, but customer service sucks and a few rides are horrible (Superman, Colossus (which one side is rotting away, and very little air time)), while CP has great customer service and a few great rides (Millie, Raptor), but the rest are bad (Mean Streak, Iron Dragon). I like PKI because they have good rides (even though I must say not all are good), and good customer service, right in the middle. Also, I noticed that several SFMM rides seemed to be falling apart. Flashback wasn't even open, and it didn't look like it had been running in a long time. Colossus only had one side opened, and I saw the trains for the other side, and they were all falling apart, much like the track was. It was all town apart. Just two examples, but they do not take care of their coasters, which makes me sad
Guest Designerbuilder
They do take care of their coasters they have 16 though and thats more then PKI has so they have more work to do then PKI. I admit Superman does make a loud sound but the ride is worth it. Oh and I went to that link lots of peeps said they loved it. StXBomber
Yes, but alot more said they hated it, example: Ive been on this ride a few times and it is dissapionting. The launch is slow and it only goes up about 3/5 of the tower. It has gotten slower over time too. It used to go up higher. Okay, it is fun to go that fast and then go completely vertical like a skater or sumthin. But Xcelerator is much cooler. Besides, it is so loud that everyone who has visited Magic Mountain qualifies as being deaf now. It sort of ruins the park. Six Flags should tear it down and install a monster in it's place like Steel Dragon 2000 to give 6 flags yet another thing to brag about. I was very very disappointed with this ride. With everything that Six Flags says that this is a coaster, I thought it may be pretty good and rode it in the front seat with an open mind. Boy was I wrong! The launch was not intense at all, and I got barely any air-time. The only good thing about this ride was that it was a walk-on! This ride is not fun like a coaster should be, it has no aspects like a roller coaster and should not be considered a roller coaster. Just a few, but alot of them go along this lines. "It's too loud, too short, not intense."
Guest Designerbuilder
Yeh your right all it does is go straight up and drop you backwards straight down 325 ft. but thats it. And TTD all it does is launch you 420 ft. in the air only to send you going straight down with a twist. That is basically what you are saying.
