CoasterKrazy
In this picture of Racer there are two buildings that are no longer present at PKI. One of the buildings is located where Flight of Fear now sits, and the other building looks to be where a small amount of King Cobra track resides. ( The later building mentioned looks almost like a gas station ) Does anyone know what these buildings were used for? ( Also interesting to note, Racer's last hill has yet to be removed in this photo. )
crosscountry4891
What do you mean The Racer's last hill has yet to be removed? When did it have its last hill removed?
DegenRider
It was removed I beleve in 1996. Those buildings were most likely for the wild animal habitat. I don't know the answer. Maybe shaggy or someone can give a better answer.
Beastfreak
What do you mean The Racer's last hill has yet to be removed? When did it have its last hill removed? If you look under the lift hill. There is a bunny hop. That was taken out, since obviously there is a path under that section now.
CoasterKrazy
It looks to me like that path under Racer in that picture is the exact same path used today that leads to Flight of Fear. Why Paramount decided to remove that final bunny hop I'll never know.
coasterrz
From what I have heard, they made some sort of modification to the trains of The Racer. As a result, the trains became heavier and needed more room to stop. In order to do that, they had to remove the final bunny hop. That is the reasoning that I heard behind its removal anyway. derbeast
There's a house behind Fort Washington
fryler87
That building on the left behind Racer that no longer exists looks like it is for the Wild Animal Habitat. It looks like there's a cleared area next to it that has a fence around it. It makes sense to me. Also, it looks like there's a large picnic shelter-type of building in the far back that I'm almost sure isn't there today. What's that for? coasterrz
I don`t know what that building was for. I do know, that it is no longer there and is situated as CoasterKrazy said, where some King Cobra parts once or are stored at. I do know that in that general vicinity is where the park had Pyscho Path for Fear Fest. Actually, the entrance to that Haunt I believe was in front of that building. I believe that there are trees on that site now as I don`t remember any bilding to the left when entering Pyscho Path, but of course it was pitch black and foggy. Beastfreak
You didn't go back that far for psycho path. No there is no building there anymore. That fenced off area to the left is the edge of the actual animal grounds. While the building in the rear looks like a picnic shelter was not for group picnics. WildCat
One of those building is where they stored things for the park I think I was told at one time but I was 10 at the time. Sorry I can not be that much of help.
CoasterKrazy
What is the white drum in that picture used for today?
DegenRider
I believe that stores water correct me if I am wrong
CoasterKrazy
A water tower? I've never seen one that looks like that before.
DragonLord
Close sobrider... it's the water treatment plant for the park. I don't belive that the drum holds water, but it does hold the pumps for the fire supression systems and some other things that the plant needs to operate. The water itself is pumped up to the treatment plant from pumps located by the river. If your on the path across the river from the park, you can see the pumps if you look over towards the park. coasterrz
So does that mean the park process all of its water straight from the Little Miami River? I`m assuming that it is water strictly for fire supression (sprinklers) and landsaping and not drinking water or for the waterpark. Obviously, they don`t use the water for the waterpark otherwise there wouldn`t have been a huge news story about the waterpark not getting enough water from Cincinnati`s Water Works. (Which was resolvede, by the way, in case you forgot.) Edited January 1, 1970 by CoasterRZ
fryler87
Of course the park draws ALL of its water from the river...all of that drinking water is straight from the water hole!!!! I would easily assume that all of the consumable water (and all the water in WaterWorks/Boomerang Bay) comes straight from the city's line(s). It would make sense to me if PKI got their sprinkler water from the river - but is that legal? I know of hundreds of places that draw water from lakes and ponds (like at golf courses) for sprinkler systems, but I've never heard of an establishment drawing water from a flowing water source. stephenmayes
That wouldnt sound illegal to me...but Im sure Mason would want there share of money if PKI was using money out of the river. It would make sense to just use that water for things such as sprinklers. Does anyone know if they do this or not? Steve
DegenRider
Theres natual wells around the area too. PKI draws water from those as well.
PKIguy14
On a Travel Channel show about Schlitterbahn, they said that one entire side of the park was drawn from the river.
DegenRider
Most of Cincinnati's drinking water is Ohio River Water (yummy!). In Texas water is hard to come by thus using a river makes sense.
Beastfreak
It would make sense to me if PKI got their sprinkler water from the river - but is that legal? You can guarantee its legal. In order to build a pump or anything around a river, you need permission from the Army Corp of Engineers, since they control it. So, I'm sure that its perfectly legal. DragonLord
Well, I guess the water comes from the river... but there are underground resoviours by the river (probably feed by the river) which is what the park is actully pumping from. They did have to drill two or three new wells for the building of the water park, but probably for the extended landscaping that they are doing. The drinking water is not pumped from these wells, the park gets that from Mason. Mason's water is supplied by and run by Cincinnati Water Works (just as an f.y.i)
coasterrz
I knew their was a tie in with Cincinnati WaterWorks somehow.
drewbari
Are any of those buildings still there to the left side to The Racer? I have not seen them when I have been on The Racer but I don't think I have ever looked.
CoasterKrazy
Yep. Aside from the two I mentioned in the original thread opening, all of the other buildings are still there, as far as I can tell.
drewbari
Ok, the next time I ride The Racer I am going to look. lol
CoasterKrazy
You can sometimes actually see inside the buildings if you ride forward Racer or go to Flight of Fear near Flight Team. I have yet to see anything interesting, just thought I'd let you know.
