Kings Island Weather Question

Featured Replies

OK, as some of you have known, me, my family and friends have been planning a trip to Kings Island on May 14th, 2011. However, I just checked this website to see what the weather was going to be like...:

http://www.weather.c...027:20?dayNum=8

(I am well aware this is 8 days in advance and could change quickly)

It says that there is a 60% chance for rain, but no thunderstorms (yet...the moment it says that, we reschedule!). I am a bit concerned- what happens if it is raining all day?

-Will ANY rides be open at all if it does rain all day, even if they are running 1-train operations? (I am 100% sure of one that won't be running at all- Firehawk. While I enjoy it, it's not exactly a must-do, however...)

-Does a 60% chance of rain even mean "rain all day"?

-If the park will still be open, will there be less crowds?

I have been to Kings Island before, and it has rained a bit on those days, but I still have questions since I have never been on a day where it rained ALL DAY.

Thanks for any advice.

Last season my family and a group of friends where at the park on a rainy day. All the rides were up but the coasters were only running one train. However once it started to rain hard and some thunder rolled in the park remained open but all rides stopped. We left the park and so was most everybody else, to get some dry clothes and lunch. After a couple hours the rain stopped and we returned to the park. The once packed park had a light crowd the rest of the day and we got plenty of rides in. While it did not rain all day it did until around 4 PM.

The weather in that area can change in an instant so I wouldn't trust the weather reports just yet :)

Better to be safe than sorry, so I'd recommend the following items for your one-day trip to Kings Island:

  • Rain Jacket / Umbrella - in case it rains
  • Gloves / Hat / Heavy Coat - in case it begins snowing or the temperature drops to below freezing
  • Shorts / Tank Top - in case, after the temperature drops to below freezing, the temperature goes well over 100 degrees
  • Hiking Boots - for walking to rides with long queues such as Flight Deck and White Water Canyon
  • Running Shoes - for "jogging" to attractions worth riding at the beginning or end of your day

Other items - a riot shield for dealing with immense crowds - are also helpful, but may not be needed. Enjoy your trip to Kings Island! :)
