MommaBeast
My thoughts drifted off today of the Kings Island of long ago. I was curious as to how many posters on this website remember the following. Please feel free to post your own KI relic memory-joggers as well. Remember *WHEN The Beast had water under it? *the kick-butt SCREAMIN' DEMON? *the Monorail ride through the SAFARI? *Skipper and Dolly? *WHEN The Racer was the "IT" ride at Kings Island? *the stand-up centrifugal force flatride in Octoberfest (where the floor drops from under you)? Magic41445
Unfortunately during the period of time for which those rides or features were predominant in the park I was either not born or forced to stay in Hana Barbara land, hoever i would love to see a return of the old beast waterfall. PKI Homey
Yeah, MommaBeast, I remember all of those things. The Screamin' Demon was my first looper. I always thought it was Screamin' Demon first, but I could be wrong. Ok, I just checked rcdb and it apparently was the Demon first. Anyway, it was a blast! My first suspended coaster was The Bat. Did you get to ride that one, MommaBeast? I thought it was themed very well. I also used to love to ride the Rotor(this is the ride you were referring to that the floor dropped out), the Bavarian Beetle, Der Spinnin' Keggers, the Tumblebug, and I especially enjoyed the Bayern Curve. I always wanted in the car that had the US Flag on it. I do remember when The Racers was like a three hour wait. I was always scared to ride and my mom would bribe me with a dollar. I did ride the monorail as well. It was a nice way to get air conditioned. Another place to cool off was the Enchanted Voyage. My family went nearly every year early on and we would always get LaRosa's Pizza when we first got there. I guess that's why I still love that pizza to this day. We always strolled through the gift shops as we were leaving. Memories...

Those are great memories... That whole area went by the name of "Germantown" back then - and at some point changed to Oktoberfest... I wonder why? That Bayern Kurve was awesome - rode one for the first time (since that one was removed) at Kennywood last year... It's still a fun ride even versus all the techno flats out there... MommaBeast Yeah I am that old but I see you forgot the that It was The Demon frist then the Screamin Demon. Wildcat: I'll admit, I've forgotten alot of things over the years and the Screamin' Demon being called the "Demon" first is one of those things! I don't recall that, but I believe you. I especially liked the 'Monkey Island' below the ride---looked as though you were going to collide with one of The Beasts...LOL! Gosh, I remember climbing those rickety metal steps on that even rickety-er (is that a word? LOL) scaffolding that would shimmy and shake each time the 'turbo thrust' mechanism would launch the train! That thruster had such a distinctive, powerful, jet-engine sound. Ahhh....I can remember *all that* and not the fact it was originally called the Demon. Go figure. MommaBeast

Awww....LOL.... Just look at it this way: those times spent in HB land paved the way for the thrill-seeker you are today. Kings Island was beautiful back then...simple, clean, with crisp lines that delineated areas of the park. Now don't misinterpret what I just said. Paramount Kings Island is STILL beautiful and clean...it's just that back then the park was so uncluttered and, well....SIMPLE. We always strolled through the gift shops as we were leaving. Memories... Hey, PKI Homey! Rattled your memory banks, too, I see....LOL I don't remember it being called the Demon, either. Apparently, it was a short-lived moniker. As for The Bat, I remember seeing it SBNO---never got to ride it (booooo hooooo!) and fully regret that to the max! Back in those days, I didn't get to the park that often. I was always a passenger, if ya know what I mean. Either my parents took me or my older siblings did the driving. Oh...being at the mercy of other people!!!! Bites sometimes, doesn't it? LOL Thank you for giving the floor-dropping ride a name! I would have never thought of it. Rotor, eh? Such a plain-jane name. That, and it didn't fit in well with the GermanTown theming....???...I mean, call it 'Schlitz's Revenge' or something like that...but 'ROTOR?' LMBO! All those other rides you mentioned I vaguely remember; when I was a little tyke, I seemed to prefer the big thrill rides so it's those I remember most vividly (and even those mems are quite dim sometimes, LOL). I've always enjoyed spinning rides, so I'm sure I rode 'em bunches...just don't recall it that's all. It's funny that you mentioned the monorail as a way to cool off....one of my 'fondest' (and I use that term loosely) memories of the monorail/safari adventure was being stuck in a section where a toddler had pee'd his pants...and reeked of urine. Now this wouldn't be so bad if it were not for the fact that the air-conditioning in the monorail was not working at the time!!! It was hot and oh-so-smelly! I remember not caring if I saw an animal or not (which we didn't, btw)...I just wanted to get off that ride!! And LaRosa's pizza is pretty good....sure beats that foul Skyline Chili...but that's only *MY* opinion. Thanks for your two pennies. Memories, indeed.... MommaBeast
I had not herd of some of those thing, but my Mom has. The ride in Oktoberfest was the Roter. Was the water that was under The Beast left over from the Canoe Ride? Thanks for the name of the ride I was referring to (the Rotor). If my memory stands correct, the area surrounding The Beast was all water. Speaking of water, I miss Kenton's KeelBoat Canal (or whatever the name was!). I preferred the log rides at treetop level to the White Water Canyon. MommaBeast
jlopez
I remember going when I was 7 yrs. old and the star trek character scared me half to death. I wouldnt go in that section of the park because I was scared of them. I remember when my mom was holding me and my head was over her shoulder , as we were walking near racer one was just starring at me, and it scared me so much, I didnt really know what star trek was then, so I didnt know what the heck it was. coasterfreak75
Great post! Yes, I am old enough to remember all of those rides. The Screamin' Demon was my first looper. I still miss the water under The Beast, I wish they would bring it back for the anniversery this year. I miss The Bat, I wish they would tear out Top Gun, and replace it with a Bat clone only with banked turns so it would last. ****, you've got me jabbering and remembering how old I really am. Haaaa haaaa, LMBO! We're as YOUNG as we feel, friend! Some days I'm a colt; other days I'm that ol' nag wanderin' in the field. LOL Though it would be at great expense, I kinda thought that returning The Beast to its original heyday would be the Great Anniversary Surprise they've hinted at. Surely just SIGNAGE and a documentary aren't all they're planning...afterall, this is The Beast! It is a grand structure; an ICON that withstood the test of time. It deserves *more* than just extra signs, sounds, and a 'how it was built' vid. I was thinking on a much grander scale...like filling the pond with water again, or --GASP! -- turning the trains backwards!! Thanks for responding.... M & M Productions
I too never got to the chance to ride The Bat, when I did go it was down and when it was running I was too short to ride. Anyway I do remember the water under The Beast and all the pests that came with the water which is one reason I think they removed the water. I remember the rotor, along with the zodiac, flight commander, skylab, spinning keggers just to name a few............Awwww what memories indeed. Thanks for the trip down memory lane momma. pkisparks
I rember walking under a long tunnel of greenery that was wavy like a snake.. I also remember my mon being the beatle freak she is, Making us watch a beatles movie there called a hard days night, it was a documentary of the beatles. My parents would not let me ride The Bat as I wanted to so bad, they thought it was to dangerous for us to ride. I also rember the train ride being a bit more intereting then it is today. PKI Homey
Yeah, I remember the skyline ride that went over the fountains. And, the Zodiac, man what a ride! I was terrified of riding that one. And, Flight Commander, I thought, was a cool ride. I like in that last picture of The Beast that had The Bat contained within it. But, someone said that they saw the Screamin' Demon. Where is it? Can't seem to find it. And, does anyone remember the German animated figures that were outside of one of the buildings over at Octoberfest? I think it was a male and female sitting down and eating. The male would lift and lower his glass to the table. Whomever said they miss Hong Kong Phooey, I am with you. One of my favorite cartoon characters. PkiJake13
The Screamin' Demon is now at Camden Park. It's a small park, iut's name is now Thunderblot Express. Though it's been SBNO since 2002.

Euclid Beast
And, the Zodiac, man what a ride! I was terrified of riding that one. Yes - I'd have to agree with Homey on that one - I had a really evil friend who would get us spinning like Wanda's Cauldron's-- except that on the Zodiac you hung by a chain and you were what 90-100 feet up? - and then my former friend would grab the center wheel to get the chain to bunch up and then snap drop down again - almost like snapping the Flyers - yeah that was a white knuckler when you got spinning on that thing... Where'd that Zodiac go? thought I saw a picture of it in an Alvey video one time...
