Dvo
This is a few days late, but I figure late is better than never. I live only about an hour away from SFGAm, but I really don't go there too much. Personally I think most of the rides are mediocre at best, and I'd rather do the extended drive to Cedar Point . But this past Saturday I didn't really have any plans, so I decided to go to Six Flags with a friend for opening night of Fright Fest. I'd heard very good things in the past about the haunt up here, but I've never been. When I first walked through the gates, the fountain pool that is normally a sparkly blue, was now blood red. A good start. And as I walked around the park, there were plenty of gravestones, cornstalks, and other various theming. The park looks pretty good during the day. And even better, the crowds were extremely light! We got multiple rides on nearly all of the bigger rides with no problem. As dusk began to fall, I saw some of the scareactors coming out. The costumes were pretty good.. I'd say on par with the costumes I've seen at Cedar Fair parks. But there really weren't that many of them. And there are no scare zones in any of the midways. So we encountered a few scareactors in random places, but they were just kind of wandering around. And there was virtually no fog anywhere. Kind of disappointing. Unfortunately I didn't do any of the actual houses, because Six Flags feels the need to upcharge every one of them. We didn't feel that we needed to see the haunts that bad, so we decided to skip them. I will say that they do make the park look pretty neat with their lighting schemes. American Eagle's main structure is bright red, and it looks very creepy in the back of the park. So real quick rundown of the rides we rode: Raging Bull 2X: 6/10.. my least favorite B&M Hyper by far, but the first drop is very good in the back seat. Giant Drop: 7/10. I like the staggered drop effect. American Eagle 2X: 8/10 This is a very good, very large woodie. Viper 0X: Sad about this. They were only running one train, which led to a very long wait all day. Vertical Velocity 2X: 7/10 Solid Impulse coaster. I love the non-twisting rear spike when in the back of the train. Long way down! Superman: 3/10. After the pretzel loop, this flying coaster is a snoozefest. Batman Clone: 7/10. These things are fun, even if they are all over the country. Demon: 7/10. Solid arrow looper with some good tunnels. Whizzer: 6/10. Very fun for a family coaster. The best part of the day was that it was free with my season pass for next year... Looking forward to opening day on X-Flight Until next time. -Dvo
