beastrider97
Hey all! I recently went on a weekend trip to Cedar Point and a 5 day trip to the park and Kalahari. I did so much that it would be best to write about some things I noticed over the trips. Luminosity: Powered by Pepsi!- The big new show at Cedar Point this year and the replacement of the Million Dollar Midway and, possibly, the replacement of Wildcat. After watching some parts of the show on video, I was nervous about how the show would be. We stood towards the right of the stage for the show and watched the competition between the children's dance teams. When they were off of the stage, the drummers and dancers came out and the music started. First of all, the show is INCREDIBLE! While the singing may not be the best ever, the entire show is the closest to a Disney style show I have seen at a park other than Disney itself. The fire effects and fireworks all go so well with the action of the show, that it is truly a spectacle. As long as the show is changed up every year, it will be a hit and a huge step up from the Million Dollar Midway. Dinosaurs Alive!- If you've seen Kings Island's, then you have seen Cedar Point's. Same dinosaurs, same activities, and less shade make it worse than our Dinos. The only plus are the cool views of Millennium Force, which flies right by the dinosaurs. Chet and Matt's Pizza- Finally went here for the first time since visiting for the past 12 years, and YUM! The pizza is great, and I love the building. I would recommend it to anyone that visits the park, just delicious! Thirsty Pony- I also went here for the first time, and this too is delicious! I got the Bubba Hubba burger and it was cooked perfectly and the sweet potato fires were good too. Disaster Transport and Space Spiral- I took my last rides on them on the 25th. Looking back, I would have never been sad to see them go, yet I feel sad that these rides will be going. Yet, I think the new addition will make their sacrifice worth it. Miscellaneous: I can understand wanting operations to be fast, but please, do not push down my OTSR the moment I sit down and hit me in the head. This happened to me twice and it made me beyond mad. There wasn't a single apology given or look of knowing what they just did. Kalahari was great as usual, but their soundtrack is terrible! They play the same 10 songs all day. The words, "Take me down to the little white church," will be forever etched in my mind. Both trips were great and I can't wait to go back with my Cross Country team later this month! Regardless of the operations, Cedar Point is still my favorite park and Kalahari the best indoor waterpark!
PhantomTheater
Million Dollar Midway consisted of Frontier Lift, Western Cruise, CP&LE RR (all previously existed but reworked into MDM), Monster, Schwabinchin, and Bayern Curve. You could even clasify Dodgem 2 as MDM. That was better than a stage, plain bleachers, a random bar and cement things cluttering of what was a nice open midway without triping hazards. I do agree however on your food choices, both are delicous establishments.

PhantomTheater
Not that you asked but here is the road to Celebration Plaza Million Dollar Midway time line: 1970 - MDM opens as described above by me 1971 - Frointer Trail opens making the midway a though pathway 1972 - Giant Wheel opens on the Trail behind train station offering the signature look of the midways end for 23 years 1985 - Wilcat moves in, Schwabinchin moves out and Bayern curve leaves the park 1987 - Iron Dragon is built, Monster moves, Western Cruise relocates and becomes Paddlewheel Excursions, Frontier Lift is removed 1987 - Midway renamed Iron Dragon Midway 1995 - Summer Spectacular opens with the giant screen, Midway now known as Laser Midway (later Hot Summer Lights Midway) 2000 - Giant Wheel moves for Millie 2012 - Wildcat, Screen removed, new stage and bleachers are built. Midway is now Celebration Plaza In closing, the Million Dollar Midway was never called the Funway. That is what the Main Midway was called in the 60's when the train station was approximatly where Dodgems is now. When the station was moved in 1970 the sign wasn't changed and remains to this day.
