SupremoSteveo
My first trip report of any kind! Here goes nothing…. I woke up at 4:45 Saturday morning to drive from Mooresvilledown to Bloomington to meet two of my friends. Arrived there at 6 and packed upour drinks and snacks for the day and began our trek from Btown to KingsIsland. It was definitely out of my wayto travel this route, but I was able to enjoy a nice road trip with greatfriends, and to me that is what it's all about! We arrived at KI about 9:15 and I immediately noticed how busyit was, much more busy than this time last opening day. At this point I knew Iwasn’t going to make ERT especially since I still had to get my season passprocessed. This was my first yeargetting a gold pass, so I didn’t know how the process went. The line was packedbut it seemed to go along smoothly. I wondered what the heck they had going onin the processing center. I only waited maybe 10 minutes in that line, and onceI actually got into the process center, it took about 2 minutes to geteverything done. It feels great to have a gold pass! I had a feeling that this year was going to be busy due tothe 5k and decent weather, so my friends and I decided to go with the Fast Lanepasses. I was very happy with this choice after seeing the wait times for everyride. We started off our morning with a ride on Diamondback. I waspleasantly surprised when I was my turn to get on and an older gentleman satbeside me to find out it was Gary Coleman, who has ridden Diamondback about8,000 times now. It was very cool to speak to him. This inspired us to set personal records forourselves for most rides in a day. The magic number we aimed for was 10. Wereached it, and it was awesome. After a couple of rides on DB we decided to make a laparound the park and knock out some other rides. I hate to say it, but I did notenjoy my ride on Vortex, it just seemed bumpy and jolted me around the entireduration of the ride. I say the same with Adventure Express, both the ridesjust made me feel a tad sore. One of the bigger surprises for me was Flight of Fear. Iloved that it was pitch black the entire time. I know last year on opening dayit was still lit up. Not sure if it was changed during last season since thatwas the only time I was there. At 1245 I had the pleasure of meeting some of you, and itwas great matching some names to faces. I wish I could have spent more timehanging with the KIC group, but there’s still a whole season ahead of us and I’mlooking forward to more meet ups! I was happy to finally receive my shirt andhave to say it looked even better in person. Definitely going to represent KICnext time I’m in the park by sporting the shirt. After the group photo, I went out the car and had somelunch. I ate a little and took an energy shot, cause you know, waking up at 445in the morning isn’t easy, especially when you’re a night owl like me! Afterour little break, we went in and rode Drop Tower. It’s still so surreal thatSOB isn’t there anymore. I’m so excited to see what’s going to happen with thatopen land. The rest of our afternoon was spent pacing ourselves andgetting to our goal of 10 rides on DB while mixing in a few other rides hereand there. I finally got to ride BLSC at night, and wow it feels like a wholenew ride after the sun goes down! Our final ride of the night was Diamondback, and it makes such a great night ride. That last ride just felt like a dream andit was a perfect way to end our evening. I think by that last ride we were beyond exhausted.Thankfully I had got us a room at the Super 8 across the interstate. The roomwas actually pretty nice and well kept. I had a couple beers to wind down fromthe day, but once I hit that bed, I was asleep almost instantly! Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better day. Thanks forreading this monstrosity, and I hope you enjoyed it. Hope to see you all againsoon!
jcgoble3
Sounds like a great day! Fast Lane definitely would have helped yesterday. I stayed at the same Super 8 on Friday night. I don't know whether it was the uncomfortable bed or my excitement, but I was only able to get about one hour of sleep that night. At least the room was free thanks to Wyndham Rewards. Oh, and they have the worst Wi-Fi password ever.
Jr for Birdy
Im guessing the password is password? We were so tempted to buy fastlane but just couldnt bring myself to fork up that kind of money.I will just save it for the fourth of July like last year. Glad you had a good time Steveo,it is alot of fun to just walk right up on and ride when there's a huge line! I try not to make eye contact with people waiting in line to avoid the dirty looks. SupremoSteveo
Haha yes they do have the worst password...frankly they might as well not even have one period, especially if they are going to be that lazy with their password choice! Yeah, Fast Lane definitely helped yesterday. So many dirty looks on DB. I would've gave myself a dirty look too. I still can't get over the wait times of all the rides. I'd like to see a comparison of last years opening day numbers to this years. If I were to guess, I'd say at least double what it was in 2012, at least.
TheBEASTunchained
Yesterdays crowds looked terrible from pictures so buying FastLane tickets was probablly well worth it for you and your 10 rides on Diamondback. Did you get a chance to ride the longest wooden roller coaster in the world?
SupremoSteveo
unfortunately no. The lines were just way too long. I will definitely ride The Beast here in a couple weeks though!

Well probably because you only wait 10 minutes while all of us wait 2 and a half hours. I mean I normally don't mind Fast Lane but Saturday I was just mad at them. Maybe it's because I got cranky. Nice TR and nice I got to meet you.

PKIVortex
Kings Island just don't manage Fast Lane very well. They were letting 50 Fast Lane users in at a time on DB as the main line didn't even move. That's what I don't like. It's called Fast Lane, not Walk on Lane. If we can stand in line 2 hours, they can wait 10 mins.

If we can stand in line 2 hours, they can wait 10 mins. I completely agree. Other rides had certain numbers for Fast Lane riders like Delirium and Drop Tower. They were taking 10 FLers at a time. Seemed that way on most rides, but on DB they were getting carried away. I know a couple of times I was standing by the broken phones case and I thought we'd at least have a 15 minute wait from that point, but they were just letting us through. Some tweaks need to be made for sure.
Jr for Birdy
Im actually glad they let all fastlane just walk up and on DB! I hope I get the same treatment on July 4th when I spend big money! Until then I will wait in line knowing those people spent big bucks to have it like that!
PKIVortex
But the Fast Lane should not make the wait for the people in stand by line double. They need to make it fair, I don't mind that KI has a Fast Lane Program they just need to run it better on certain rides. I just think it's a training issue. The way you explained it for Drop Tower and Delirium seemed much better just saying!
SupremoSteveo
I think I'm going to chalk up the confusion to opening day rust. I'm sure they are going to work the kinks out in the next couple weeks.
