September 22, 200619 yr Ever since I did a report on this technology for college, I always wondered about how perfect it would be for a roller coaster...It would be a perfectly smooth ride. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_train Tell me what you all think.
September 22, 200619 yr ^ ^ ^ I would agree with that, plus if you used MagLev I would have some serious issues with the fact that the coaster train would need to levitate above the track. Also the track could not make sharp turns or hills because the coaster train would fly off the track. Hence the levitation above the track. Lets stick with LIM and LSM
September 22, 200619 yr I thought that a maglev had magnets on the top and bottem, which makes it actually stay ON the track
September 22, 200619 yr It does make it stay on the track, but also the track must be very gradual, because the slightest variations will create the mags not to line up, hence making a train jump the tracks somewhat speaking. Think of as walking a tight rope at a high rate of speed. If the rope aint straight and tight your falling off.
September 22, 200619 yr I’m up for all safe, reliable and new technology of any kind for rollercoaster’s. The more technology they use, the more unique the coaster’s will become. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!!
September 23, 200619 yr Author I'm sure we could see it in the future somehow. I would've never guessed years ago that LSM/LIM would be so useful in coasters.
