PKIVortex Posted June 9, 2007 Share Posted June 9, 2007 Big Splash Slide Collapses KOTV - 6/8/2007 5:03 PM - Updated 6/8/2007 10:49 PM Big Splash officials still don't know what caused part of a water ride to collapse with a young girl on the slide. An 11-year-old girl was on the Master Blaster when a six-foot fiberglass portion of the chute broke. The piece collapsed onto another part of the ride a few feet below. The girl managed to land on a safety net below and was rescued by Big Splash park officials. Witnesses nearby described the accident. "We just heard a big crack, and we thought it was someone splashing in the water, and the next thing we know we hear sirens and everyone was coming over here to look and see where it collapsed," said witness Lisa Olinger. The Big Splash general manager told us the state doesn't require them to have inspections, but she says Big Splash does hires a private company to inspect the rides. The general manager said the last inspection was right before the park opened on Memorial Day Weekend. The owners of the park won't comment until after the investigation is completed.
