  1. Very true. Even Coney Island suffered a similar fate once it entered its third generation of family ownership. George Schott, followed by Ed Schott and then George`s son-in law Ralph Wachs. He was foloowed by Gary Wachs who late had the vision to create Kings Island and ended up selling the park to Taft Broadcasting so that they could help build Kings Island. And of course Coney eventually continued on under new management. I`m still surprised they are going after this. Especially when their park has benefited from the closure of Kentiucky Kingdom. I guess they see some potential value to this if they are doing their due dilligence and trying to line up investors for this endeavor.
  2. I believe that Snowy River Rampage is relatively well hidden among the trees.
  3. That would be correct. The picture that Paul posted is in fact part of Skylab. I still hate how the ride`s former location has become so cluttered with stuff over the years since it was removed. Not quite as grand of an entrance into Coney Mall as it used to be when there was a ride there.
  4. As others have said, I would love to see Kings Island add a B&M inverted coaster. They are simply so much fun... Not to mention they are good high capcity rides, unlike wild mouse coasters.
  5. It's so sad to hear. My deepest condolences... It is always sad to hear when people we care about are called home to the great big amusement park in the sky. Especially when it is way before their time. Doug will certainly be missed. I never knew him personally but saw him many times on my visits to Kings Island over the years. It's times like these when we realize how fragile and precious life truly is. We need to enjoy every little moment we have and treasure all of the memories we have.
  6. Now that you mention it, it appears as if they did. I believe that was the one in which they cut down the trees within it at the beginning of last season. Although that one maybe farther down. Its hard to guage without seeing the relation to the buildings to the right.
  7. Seeing these pictures makes me wish that opening day for Kings Island was a week away, and not 85 days away! At least the Reds opening day is only 62 days away! And of course the opening of Soak City is even farther away than 85 days!
  8. This year is also the first year that they have moved the event to July, and have placed it on a Friday.
  9. But seeing the nightly fireworks at Kings Island is just not the same as seeing the fireworks from say Coney`s July 3rd Balloon glow celebration or the Cincinnati Bell WEBN Fireworks. Those are in a class of their own.
  10. Soak City at Cedar Point is getting an overhaul. They are painting some of the slides and adding a new slide. I think that even Kings Island`s water park could use some new water slides as well.
  11. Now now. Lets not talk about AFRs. Remember, this is a family site after all!
  12. Awesome picture. I eagerly await the rest of your collection. Keep them coming!
  13. At least you don`t hear that song multiple times a day, like I do when I work there! They play that song when Sunlite pool opens for the day, as well as after every live show, which is located in an open air stage, right next to the Ferris Wheel!
  14. Ty, Yes, that is the slide I was referring to! I agree, Coolangatta Racers looks a lot nicer than those speed slides.
  15. Well, those were removed with the last renovation to the water park. Personally, I never went on the previous incarnation of those water slides...The racing slide (formerly Coolangatta Racers), is a fun water slide. I still think its ashame that they aren`t adding another water slide or two to the water park. I do think the new pathway connecting back to Snowy River Rampage (the four person family raft ride at the back of the original water park) will be a big improvement.
  16. Really? Thats all you care about? Its not like the slides in the water park haven`t been renamed once already. So its not like a name of a water slide is that important. I`m just looking forward to amusement parks opening up again. And seeing what changes they do to the water park in terms of sprucing it up. Cedar Fair has done a nice job with Rivertown, and Coney Mall so far. Removal of the nestea plunge? What was that?
  17. I believe that Buckeye Brad hit the nail on the head. That is the now defunct Diamond Falls at sister park Kings Dominion.
  18. Well, to be honest, the "Coney Has it" song has been around since about 2005 or 2006 (shortly after the Scream Machine was introduced in 2005). So the jingle has been around for a while. And in case anyone is wondering what we are talking about, check out this abbreviated version (which does not list things like "We`ve got the Scream Machine and the bumper cars, the Pipeline plunge, there`s so much to see and do, yeah, yeah, yeah"
  19. Yep. He has some pretty crazy pictures! Hopefully, flooding doesn`t happen again this year. I was down at Coney late in the evening last year right before Easter moving stuff to higher ground. The flooding also caused the cancellation of the Appalachian Festival, which will be going on this year. Nice pictures, Kevin!
  20. I saw those skyride pictures last night. Pretty impressive. Also kind of scary the way they evacuated some of those cars! THose construction pictures are awesome as well, with many that I had never seen before! Definitely worth checking out!
  21. I was at a hard hat construction meeting last week for one of the projects I`ve been working on here at the office, but the project site was in Ripley, OH, not at Kings Island. Right now, I`d imagine there isn`t that much to see at KI in terms of construction. I`m not even sure if they have begun to form the new wave pool concrete yet.
  22. Nope. They were two entirely separate venues. The big grassy area where the stars are for Starlight Spectacular (and abour there the transfer track for Diamondback sits), is where the Saltwater Circus building used to reside.
  23. While there may be enough hotel capacity around the parks, some parks do not have on property hotels. Wasn`t the point of having on property hotels mentioned as a way to entice visitors to stay longer? I know they mentioned having more night time events as a way to extend the length of stay and in turn boost the amount of in park spending that families would do in the parks.
  24. As with anything, they are going to tweak it and adjust it in order to make things work better. I think Ouimet gets it and realizes that Fast Lane is a way to offer a preferred system (while also bringing in additional revenue), but in a way that should not detrimentaly impact the guest experience.
  25. Definitely seems like Cedar Fair is on the right track under Ouimet. Nice to see an emphasis on the resorts. I wonder how long before we see some new hotels springing up in parks that currently do not have an on site hotel? Also nice to see the transparency that has been created.
