  1. I`m not disagreeing that a new coaster at Coney would attract a lot of people. I just don`t think that Coney would ever spend the money to build such an attraction. But never say never. Strange things have happened before. When Kings Island was built in 1972, who ever would have thought that Coney would still be around as an amusement park today?
  2. I agree with Gordon. KI needs to have some roving entertainment like the clown band! They add so much to the atmosphere of the park! They are sorely missed. I remember them fondly from when I was a kid. They just add so much excitement to the park. Below is a video from the "Untouchables" one of the last incarnations of the Kings Island clown band, albeit it much smaller than the original band. This clip is from the band playing in what is now the Action Zone.
  3. They should make it easy and painless for people to hand over their money. The easier it is, the less they will think about handing over their money!
  4. Yes, Shockwave's operator booth is very similar to how King Cobra's was set up. As for the color of The Beastie, it remained painted yellow through at least the 1987 season, because I have a picture of me riding it back then when I was terrified of roller coasters. They painted it blu shortly after that.
  5. There wasn`t much to the actual queue line. I believe most of it was surrounded by the station, and a large fence. You really couldn`t look out of the actual queue. There was a covering over the queue, much like the one that is on Viking Fury (wood slats). And whenever a train came into the brake run, it was deafening in the queue.
  6. While those things would be nice to have (I still maintain that a wooden coaster the size of the Tornado at Stricker`s Grove would be a huge hit at Coney), I doubt that we will see them happen at Coney anytime soon. They simply are big ticket items. And the last big ticket item tha Coney installed was the Twister in the water park, and that cost around $1,8 million and was the most expensive attraction Coney has ever installed. You can`t buy many new shiny attractions for that amount of money. I
  7. I love that Chronicle article with information on the construction of White Water Canyon! Thanks for sharing it!
  8. The ride that was originally where the bench is was the Chance helicopter ride. The Hampton umbrella ride (the one pictured) was actually over more towards the entrance to The Beastie, with the helicopter ride being located just off the frame to the right. The Enchanted Voyage building can be seen on the right hand side of the photo.
  9. There are also some old Winterfest logos that they are selling as well: http://www.cincyshirts.com/cincyshirts/vintage-cincinnati-shirts/winterfest-shirt.html They also have an old Coney (when it was dubbed Ohio Grove) advertisement on a t-shirt: http://www.cincyshirts.com/cincyshirts/vintage-cincinnati-shirts/vintage-ohio-grove-poster-shirt.html They also have a shirt of Surf Cincinnati, and several old Cincinnati relics that I remember from when I was a kid (Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, and Swallen`s to name a few).
  10. Very true. Even Coney Island suffered a similar fate once it entered its third generation of family ownership. George Schott, followed by Ed Schott and then George`s son-in law Ralph Wachs. He was foloowed by Gary Wachs who late had the vision to create Kings Island and ended up selling the park to Taft Broadcasting so that they could help build Kings Island. And of course Coney eventually continued on under new management. I`m still surprised they are going after this. Especially when their park has benefited from the closure of Kentiucky Kingdom. I guess they see some potential value to this if they are doing their due dilligence and trying to line up investors for this endeavor.
  11. I believe that Snowy River Rampage is relatively well hidden among the trees.
  12. That would be correct. The picture that Paul posted is in fact part of Skylab. I still hate how the ride`s former location has become so cluttered with stuff over the years since it was removed. Not quite as grand of an entrance into Coney Mall as it used to be when there was a ride there.
  13. As others have said, I would love to see Kings Island add a B&M inverted coaster. They are simply so much fun... Not to mention they are good high capcity rides, unlike wild mouse coasters.
  14. It's so sad to hear. My deepest condolences... It is always sad to hear when people we care about are called home to the great big amusement park in the sky. Especially when it is way before their time. Doug will certainly be missed. I never knew him personally but saw him many times on my visits to Kings Island over the years. It's times like these when we realize how fragile and precious life truly is. We need to enjoy every little moment we have and treasure all of the memories we have.
  15. Now that you mention it, it appears as if they did. I believe that was the one in which they cut down the trees within it at the beginning of last season. Although that one maybe farther down. Its hard to guage without seeing the relation to the buildings to the right.
  16. Seeing these pictures makes me wish that opening day for Kings Island was a week away, and not 85 days away! At least the Reds opening day is only 62 days away! And of course the opening of Soak City is even farther away than 85 days!
  17. This year is also the first year that they have moved the event to July, and have placed it on a Friday.
  18. But seeing the nightly fireworks at Kings Island is just not the same as seeing the fireworks from say Coney`s July 3rd Balloon glow celebration or the Cincinnati Bell WEBN Fireworks. Those are in a class of their own.
  19. Soak City at Cedar Point is getting an overhaul. They are painting some of the slides and adding a new slide. I think that even Kings Island`s water park could use some new water slides as well.
  20. Now now. Lets not talk about AFRs. Remember, this is a family site after all!
  21. Awesome picture. I eagerly await the rest of your collection. Keep them coming!
  22. At least you don`t hear that song multiple times a day, like I do when I work there! They play that song when Sunlite pool opens for the day, as well as after every live show, which is located in an open air stage, right next to the Ferris Wheel!
  23. Ty, Yes, that is the slide I was referring to! I agree, Coolangatta Racers looks a lot nicer than those speed slides.
  24. Well, those were removed with the last renovation to the water park. Personally, I never went on the previous incarnation of those water slides...The racing slide (formerly Coolangatta Racers), is a fun water slide. I still think its ashame that they aren`t adding another water slide or two to the water park. I do think the new pathway connecting back to Snowy River Rampage (the four person family raft ride at the back of the original water park) will be a big improvement.
  25. Really? Thats all you care about? Its not like the slides in the water park haven`t been renamed once already. So its not like a name of a water slide is that important. I`m just looking forward to amusement parks opening up again. And seeing what changes they do to the water park in terms of sprucing it up. Cedar Fair has done a nice job with Rivertown, and Coney Mall so far. Removal of the nestea plunge? What was that?
