  1. If I`m not mistaken, that field in the picture in question is not far from the fireworks launching pad area.
  2. But would such a dive coaster have such awesome fog setting like what we experienced back in December at Busch Gardens? That was still an awesome ride experience. Just you and I on the trains for Sheik`Ra, Myself on one end, you on the other, and the park in a thick fog.
  3. How tall have the GCI coasters that Cedar Fair has recently installed been?
  4. Yep. In fact, when we opened the rides for a few hours on May 21st, there was still no fence around the ride. We had to staff someone at the ride to keep people from climbing on the swings. It now has a fence, I just don`t have a picture of the ride with the fence...
  5. The ride is geared towards kids. The current height requirement on it is 32" tall to ride, and riders MUST be 4 or older to ride. Currently, there is no upper height limit on the ride, but there likely will be one put in place in the coming weeks. We had a lot of issues of people riding who could fit in the swings but there feet were dragging the ground. The ride is manufactured by SBF/ Visa group, the same company that built River Runner at Coney. And when Krazy City was open here in Cincinnati, their swing ride was also made by SBF/Visa.
  6. Summerfair returns to Coney Island for its 44th season this weekend, June 3, 4, and 5th. Please note, however, that due to Summerfair, certain rides at Coney will be CLOSED on Saturday and Sunday. The following attractions will NOT open this coming weekend: Dodgems, Famous Fairways Mini Golf, Giant Slide, Tilt A Whirl, Scream Machine, Carousel, and the new Swing A Round Ride.
  7. Just as a heads up, Coney`s rides WILL be open to 10pm that evening. And there will be complimentary birthday cake (while supplies last). Additionally, historical memorabilia will be on display in Moonlite Pavilion, the Centennial time capsule will be unveiled, and there will be live music. And the big cap off to the evening, is the firework`s display from Rozzi`s Famous Fireworks at 10pm over the shores of Lake Como. All festivities are free to attend. Normal parking, rides and Sunlite Pool rates apply. Also, note that if you enter through gate 1 to park that day (the parking entrance closest to I-275), that it will close to traffic at 9:45 until the conclusion of the fireworks. No vehicles will be able to leave that lot in that time frame.
  8. But, as is always the case, that is subject to change, depending on a whole variety of variables.
  9. That would be a safe guess. I`m not sure though. Since you will be there to ride the rides too. I will end up being at Coney tomorrow for a few hours. Have to finish next weekend`s schedule, since I was unable to finish it today... So many things were going on today that prevented me from doing it. For those who will be swinging by tomorrow, Bumper Boats will NOT be open tomorrow. They are making some modifications to the new dock that they made last year, and they are not yet done with those modifications.
  10. It should also be noted, that the first time we went through Dinosaurs Alive, it took us nearly fifty minutes to get through the entire thing, and that was WITHOUT reading any of the informational signs. So I think spending $5 for nearly an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes worth of entertainment is really good value. I know I will certainly pay to go through it again, especially once they add that dinosaur back in. I definitely recommend you check out Dinosaurs Alive! Nice trip report Jesse!
  11. Yep. You have to stick around to the ending of the video!
  12. Well, other than the one that is right across the maintenance path from The Racer, they are all pretty much hidden from view from any rides, including the Eiffel Tower. And other than a few glimpses of The Racer, and WindSeeker, the only other indication of a ride that you will hear is Firehawk`s lift hill. All the trees and the topography back there definitely adds to the setting for the attraction.
  13. Yes, it does. Here is a picture of the old Trail of Terror Path, as seen from the new pathway for Dinosaurs Alive: http://www.KICentral.com/photos/displayimage.php?album=339&pos=4 The Dinosaurs Alive path actually follows the old ToT path for a little bit (where the out house scene was).
  14. And Jurrasic Park The RIde didn`t open until Islands of Adventure opened, which occurred in 1999! So we are only talking a variance of a few years... Here are some preliminary Dinosaurs Alive pictures from today: http://www.KICentral.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=339
  15. Dinosaurs Alive is in fact well worth the $5 charge. And yes, that dinosaur was not present in the attraction today. But the T-Rex is still huge!
  16. Yes, it was a rather soggy day at the park. Some pictures will be posted on the site here soon from Dinosaurs Alive! In my opinion, it is well worth the $5 charge. The first time we went through, not taking time to read the signs or snap any pictures, it took us nearly fifty minutes to get through the entire thing! Now if only that pesky rain can stop!
  17. It has been unusually rainy still. But it sure doesn`t seem like there has been much visual progress so far, at least in terms of testing the ride yet. I know I was down at Coney last night trying to paint the rides office, and our progress was hampered by the weather. Its hard to paint in a room that has no windows and the power goes out...
  18. Since it is on a Saturday, I likely will end up having to work that day... At least I`ll be working at Coney, but may not be able to partake in all of the festivities... It just depends what my schedule will allow for that week. It will definitely be a fun filled day.
  19. But our ride system on Boo Blasters has a much higher capacity than the other Boo Blasters which utilize the Sally ride system.
  20. So how do you like your iPhone?
  21. Coney Island is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. (It is the sixth oldest amusement park in the country). The official birthday is June 21, however, that is a Tuesday, so where would the fun be in celebrating on a Tuesday? So on Saturday, June 18th Coney will hold a special 125th anniversary celebration. The party starts at 4pm, and includes special food deals for $1.25 throughout the park. Q102`s Jon Jon will host games from 6-9 pm with birthday prizes given away. Archival films will be on display, as well as the unveiling of what surprises are located within the Moonlite Gardens time capsule (seen below). To cap off the official anniversary celebration, there will be a Rozzi`s Famous Fireworks display over Lake Como at 10pm with a lucky contest winner lighting the fuse. So come on down to Coney for a day of fun and some nice celebrations! At this point in time, the rides close at 9pm that day, but I would not be surprised if the rides end up staying open that day until 10pm. I will let you know if we keep the rides open until 10pm that day, as soon as I find out. For a complete list of special events happening at Coney this season, check out the events press release on Coney`s website here: 2011 Coney Island Events
  22. Hmmm. Going with a proven design (actual operating installations) versus a prototype design with no current operational installations? Who thinks Cedar Fair opted for the cheaper of the two versions and is now paying dearly for it? Remember, originally, they said WindSeeker would be ready for opening day at KI. We are almost a month out from that. And with next weekend being the big "unofficial" start of summer, it seems as if there is a chance that WindSeeker will still not be ready by then! EDIT: Is it just me, or does it look like the swings in this webcam image are actually rotating? The seats look like the extend out past the end of the support arms, indicating that they are rotating. I`m not certain if I`ve seen them rotating before (either in person or on the webcams). Hopefully, this is a sign of good progress and that the ride is getting closer to opening. I know I personally can`t wait to ride it! I really hope its open Memorial Day weekend...
  23. He certainly has changed his tune a bit since back when he was suggesting that the Apollo deal was the best value for unit holders. Now look at the unit price! It closed today at $20.90, up 15 cents, and off the 52 week high by about $1.70. The thing I found most intriguing about the letter was the mention (again) of out of park revenue opportunities, such as hotels. I wonder if we will ever see CF try and build a hotel at KI on the fringe of the deep south parking lot? I wonder what partnerships they maybe considering. Anything that could help them generate revenue in their non-peak seasons I think would help. (Now if only they could take a look at how KI ran Winterfest back in its heyday, and see that the event can work. That would be a great way to expand the season a little bit. Of course competition for holiday events is a lot more intense today than it was back in the mid 1980s. But one can dream, can`t they?
