  1. Is she thinking about the old French bakery? To my knowledge it sold pastries and such. If memory serves me, based on old park maps, it was located in what is now the Yogurt Plus location on International Street.
  2. Or you could check out the countdown timer on the home page of KICentral.com. Just saying.
  3. Concrete flat work takes little time. It can be poured in a day and ready for foot traffic in a couple of days. This is usually one of the later things done on projects so that the concrete isn`t damaged by the heavy equipment used elsewhere on the site.
  4. Keep in mind that the pass holder preview day this year is on Good Friday. Some schools, including my local school district are closed that day (they are actually closed all week that week for spring break).
  5. Every park has a five year plan, right? Rest assured we will see future investments in the park, both on the rides side and the Sunlite Water Adventure.
  6. The old script logo has been in use since the late 70s, so it is definitely time for an upgrade. I am not sure how I feel about the logo. I liked the new logo that was somewhat rolled out last year (see my avatar). I do not like the fact that the C and I are not capitalized, but I realize that is the in thing with logos. I get where they are coming from naming the pool area as Sunlite Water Adventures. The pool is called Sunlite Pool, but they really didn`t have a name for the water area, which includes Typhoon Tower, Pipeline Plung and the Twister water slides. Kind of marketing it as a water park. I like the theme they are going with too. I have known for a while that the bath house was going to be renovated. They could certainly use some freshening up. They last had a major renovation way back in 1991, 26 years ago. So they are definitely due for an upgrade. The tiki head on Typhoon Tower was actually removed before the end of the season last year. I like how the new look on the tower will tie into the theme in the rest of the mark. I think they may have overhyped this a bit. Hopefully the rides side will see some additions in future years. (They are repainting the Airplane and Helicopters kiddy rides, which look absolutely stunning, both of which are/were painted in house by one of Coney`s ride mechanics, who also painted the turtle parade, and Frog Hopper rides the last couple of seasons). I am still hoping they get a new wooden coaster one day, but not sure when or if that will happen. I am excited for this season at Coney. This will be my 16th season working at Coney. Hopefully I will see some of you out there.
  7. I agree. I think that they are leaving some money on the table by not charging more for this. I wonder how much they actually place a limit on these, and what that limit actually is. I am sure we will never actually know.
  8. I can`t order my Coaster stock tickets until I get my Gold Pass processed to enter my pass #. We downgraded from Platinum since we have a little one now and didn`t think we would make it to another Cedar Fair park besides KI this year. Kind of bummed I have to wait about another month to purchase my CoasterStock ticket. People should be glad that the season long drink plan is valid at all Cedar Fair parks if you have a Platinum Pass. Regardless of it costing $27, $30, or even $38 after taxes and fees, that is a pretty good deal if you visit the park say ten times and get a drink every time you go.
  9. I would argue that most pass holders do go often to the park. Likely not as many times as we go to the park, but they still go often. The more often they go will mean the less likely they will be to purchase a season long Fast Lane pass. If the lines are too long for them on a particular day, they can always come back on another day to enjoy the park. I am surprised that the KD FastLane season long pass is only $115. I thought it would have been more expensive than that.
  10. I remember the bridge over Swan Lake quite well. Once you crossed the bridge, the grade was pretty steep to get up in Rivertown proper. After it was removed, you could still make out where it used to be based on the grading. The bridge is approximately where the queue for Diamondback ducks under the track by the station.
  11. The above photo was taken at least in 1984 (King Cobra is there), but prior to 1991, as Adventure Express is not there and the Flying Dutchman is still there. It is also after 1986 as you can just make out the edge of Skylab on the right, which was an addition in 1986. So 1986-1990 is the time frame you are looking at.
  12. And I think that both of those rides still fit with the Adventure Village theme. I still think it would be cool if Coney Mall got a revamp with classic midway theming like Carowinds is adding with their new flat ride package for this season.
  13. It probably won`t be much longer before the State ride inspectors from the Department of Agriculture start certifying rides at KI for the 2017 season. Another sign that spring is right around the corner.
  14. And lets not forget (completely not related to Mystic Timbers theme perse), but log flumes originated because lumber companies would cut trees down and float them down to the mill in chutes of water.
  15. The park has since posted another image stating "Time to Slide." So we have "Time to Splash", "Time to Ride" and "Time to Slide" The announcement is this Thursday, March 2. Stay tuned...
  16. And it should be noted, that the date on the Water Works clip is incorrect. It says it is from 1988. Water Works opened in 1989. Amazon Falls, now Congo Falls, opened in 1988. Still a cool commercial clip though.
  17. And it should be pointed out National Amusement Devices was based in Dayton, Ohio.
  18. Topic bump. They posted on their FB page today "Its time to ride."
  19. Never been to the park before. I was close when I went to Waldameer and then proceeded onto Niagara Falls and Canada`s Wonderland. Hopefully they can make it and be around for several more years so I can get back out that way.
  20. I actually have a copy of that very book. It is sad to see the park after all the rides had been moved to Kings Island, standing just like a ghost town. Fortunately the park is still running today. Although it would be nice for the park to add another wooden coaster someday.
  21. But back then, the stage was a lot further out in the Festhaus seating area. I wonder if they still have the ice making equipment (chiller, etc) at the Festhaus. I believe that the equipment is still there at the Kings Island Theater. I personally am hoping that Santa`s Toy Factory returns to the Kings Island Theater. That show was held at the original Winterfest, the re-instated on in 2005, and I believe that they had a very similar show (although with a different name) at California`s Great America for Winterfest this past year.
  22. Well technically, they rebranded the pool area last year as Sunlite Adventure. (Which features Sunlite Pool, Twister water slide, Typhoon Tower, and Pipeline Plunge). Calakapepe, don`t look for a RMC. Remember that it says a splash is coming...
  23. It`s time to Splash. A Special Announcement coming March 2nd. Special Announcement Details
