Sit On it - A nostalgic look back at KI...
CoastersRZ replied to Shaggy's topic in Kings Island History
I think the theming for Banshee is pretty well executed. It just doesn`t quite gel with the rest of the non-existant theme of the Action Zone. Like Shaggy said, I think the theme of Rivertown is being greatly enhanced by the addition of Mystic Timbers. Even the new funnel cake building that was built last year has emphasized the theme. Coney Mall could use some "new" classic flat rides to breath some life into that area. With the exception of Windseeker, the last new flat ride installed in Coney Mall was Zephyr and the current Dodgems (Flight Commander was installed in 1990, but only lasted about five years) and they were installed in 1986. -
Wow. This is quite the thread bump! Nearly fifteen years since the last post, lol. That would be nice to have two sets of flyers. I don`t think that will happen though. It would be nice to get some classic flat rides added in Coney Mall though.

Thanks for sharing Don! Just out of curiosity, how many bents are there on each side of The Racer?

What are Kings Islands Plans after Mystic Timbers?
CoastersRZ replied to louisvillecards1's topic in Coming Attractions
In my opinion, Kings Island could definitely use some classic flat rides. A Music Express ride at Kings Island would be awesome. There are a couple spots in Coney Mall that could fit a flat ride nicely. Also, there is the old site of the Salt Water Circus, behind the Eiffel Tower and International Showplace that could use a flat ride. That path is literally a connection, with nothing going on, besides the Paradise Island food stand that is sometimes open. -
When Paramount brought back Winterfest in 2005, the fountain was drained by about the first weekend in October so that they could start the process of building the wooden platform upon which the ice skating rink was built. The final weekend of the 2005 regular season was actually the first weekend in November, if my memory serves me correct. There was an odd juxtaposition of Haunt decorations and Fear Fest (as it was known at the time) decorations up, especially on International Street.

Clearly that is some foundation and concrete work. I can`t pinpoint where in the park this is located though. It might be Banshee in the top left of the image. Clearly related to Winterfest with the #Homefortheholidays tag.

You are certainly welcome. I enjoy checking out your page. I love the content so far. Keep it coming! -
I personally want to thank Ryan as well. He made me a staff member here on KIC back in 2005 (hard to believe that was twelve years ago). This site had been a big part of my life, and will continue to be. Thanks for your hard work Ryan and having trust in me to be a staff member. I have been in constant contact with Malem and IndyGuy4KI over the last several months and can assure you there are exciting things ahead. Good luck with your future endeavors, Ryan!

What are Kings Islands Plans after Mystic Timbers?

Yes, I believe that the Columbus Zoo replaced their dinosaurs with pirates. I highly recommend checking out the Columbus Zoo if you have not. The zoo is amazing and their water park is pretty nice too! Don't forget that they also have the Sea Dragon wooden coaster. I have checked out their water park and zoo. It haven't had a chance to ride the Sea Dragon yet. -

Topic bump. For those who haven`t checked out this Facebook group lately, John has added several park brochures from the early 70s. Well worth checking out. -
Not saying Triotech is involved. But I believe that the rides at Canada`s Wonderland and Knott`s were touted as being able to be switched out and modified with overlays and new themes rather easily.
-
The areas for both look quite large. These will make this park wonderful to visit, but until they come online, there is not much to do in this park. Although it does have Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller Coaster.
-
They announced this week when the Star Wars areas will open, but I didn`t hear anything about the Toy Story Land.
-
Have they stated when the new Toy Story attractions will open at Hollywood Studios? It would not surprise me if the name of that park changes between now and the time that Star Wars opens.
-
I remember one of my first visits to Disney World, and the park hopper option was included with our multi-day tickets. Long gone is that option. Keep in mind that Disney parks are premiere parks. They are priced accordingly.

While I like the idea of a Ferris Wheel returning to Kings Island, I don`t see that happening any time soon. Ferris Wheels do not get great capacity (you can only load one or a couple of cars at a time versus loading an entire ride at once, like Scrambler and Shake Rattle and Roll). It would be nice to see something put on that plot of land between Adventure Express, Racer and Flight of Fear though. I don`t know if we will ever see anything placed there or not.

I love Kennywood too! The Kangaroo ride is an awesome fun flat ride. It is reportedly the only ride of its kind left in the world. My wife (fiance at the time) and I visited Kennywood several years ago. We had a blast. The coasters are all fun, and the place has charm. There is even a reference to Cincinnati`s Coney Island, by the windmill close to the front of the park, that was modeled after one that once resided at Coney Island. There is a plaque denoting this in front of the windmill. I like Kennywood so much, that when a business trip for work had me driving into the Pittsburgh area on a June afternoon, I swung by Kennywood for a few hours in the evening, just by myself. I had a fun time. Waldameer is also a fun park, as is Hershey. Dorney Park is fun too, although it kind of has a feeling of a watered down Cedar Point. They have some similar looking buildings, like their Carousel building and Coasters restaurant.

And he has done a great job.

When you think about it, it is remarkable that the theming on Flight of Fear has stood up as well as it has. The ride is 21 years old this year!

I am not in denial about Wicked Twister leaving CP. I am simply stating that what is proposed at a planning meeting for zoning purposes does not necessarily mean that is going to come to fruition. Yes, the plan was adopted, but that does not mean they can`t switch out ride hardware for another similar type attraction. They were using the wording (and the image) as a way to demonstrate things they intend to bring, but these things can often change as the years go by. Plans change. Just look at KI. Originally, the site of the old Flight Commander ride was to have a drop ride placed there, and the park even put a sign up there for the ride. They ended up not installing it and opted instead for a water park expansion instead.
-
Just because they mentioned a ride in a zoning package, and had a picture of Wicked Twister does not mean that they are going to move Wicked Twister to CGA. The hyper coaster pictures I believe was Diamondback. They could always move another one of the impulse coasters they have (the one at Dorney originated at a park in Ohio that used to number its flags). Or they could, as others have stated, get a similar ride from another manufacturer.
-
They seem to use that as a dumping ground for excess dirt. It could be simply dirt that was not needed by Mystic Timbers. Instead of paying to dispose of it offsite, they simply dump it out there.
-
It should be noted that this would extend their lease through April 30th 2066. The need for the extension was cited as being so that they can do long term repairs to several buildings on property. Not sure exactly how getting an extension helps with that. I have never been to this park. Would you say that this park is struggling? I would love to visit it someday. It will be a few years out, as most of our trips in the next few years will be more local.
