I rode the ride once with my cousin, on a very slow Sunday in October, probably around 2002. One time was enough for me to say I had ridden it. I liked the feel of kiddie land back then. It had a lot more trees (the area by the Disk-O seems so open and sunny on those hot July and August Days). And they still had the kiddie tumble bug and the hand cars, which I had a blast riding when I was a kid.

Cedar Fair 3Q 2016 Quarter Results
CoastersRZ replied to Hoeter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Six Flags was citing weather issues for a slow start to the third quarter. I still prefer a visit to a Cedar Fair park over a visit to a Six Flags park. There is just something intangible about a Six Flags park. Maybe it is the feeling that everything seems "fake", or that their parks seem more cookie cutter than the Cedar Fair Parks. I have been to Six Flags St. Louis, Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Great Adventure and Six Flags Magic Mountain. Don`t get me wrong, I have had fun at all of those parks. There is just something that makes me prefer Cedar Fair Parks (I have been to Kings Island, Cedar Point, Kings Dominion, Carowinds, Canada`s Wonderland, Knott`s Berry Farm, and Dorney Park). -
The Interpreter will not know the exact answer to that question. He can speculate on what happens, but as outsiders looking in, it is difficult to say what exactly goes on. I would say that the individual parks probably have a little more say than an individual park does in Six Flags. I see Six Flags corporate having a tighter control of things on the capital projects than what Cedar Fair does.

I think what you are seeing there are the foundations in the reservoir for White Water Canyon. It also looks as if they placed part of the chain return for the lift hill (the part where the chain returns back to the motor at the base of the lift). You can see a diagonal under where the lift crowns.

"Centurion" name registered by Cedar Fair
CoastersRZ replied to Oldschool75's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
On a slightly unrelated subject (but relevant since it was mentioned that Carowinds Skyflyer was moved next to Nighthawk a few posts above), I wonder if Cedar Point has plans to re-install their Skycoaster (called RipCord) somewhere in the park for the 2017 season. It was taken down from its current location in the now-defunct Challenge Park to make room for the water park expansion. -

I agree. Great to have Brad on board as well! Its hard to believe that I have been a mod on here for eleven years now! -
I think your guess of where the train tracks will cross under the ride is pretty close to accurate, based on what I have seen from the footings/current structure that is standing. Being an architect, I do have some insights into layout based on foundations, etc. even if I am in no way involved with said project.

Christmas Nights of Lights Coming to Coney Island
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
It should be noted that the Coney website says "a portion of proceeds" and not "all proceeds" will be donated as you mentioned, Oldiesmann. -
Well, the 2016-2017 off season is officially here... At least we will have a new roller coaster to look forward to in 2017, and the return of Winterfest!

When I rode today, my gun worked just fine. (And I was able to get to 1,200 points). When was the last TrioTech dark ride installed at a Cedar Fair park? I believe it was Voyage to the Iron Reef at Knott`s in 2015. And it looks like there are no new dark ride additions to any Cedar Fair park for next season either. There is also a reason that they made these rides interactive. It deters the guests, especially those unsupervised guests, typically, although not always, of the teenage variety, from defacing/destroying park property.

The only problem with reusing the old WWC queue is that it is on the other side of the tracks. And most of it has probably been destroyed with all the construction (it was nothing more than an asphalt path and a wooden fence). While they won`t need a queue as big as Diamondback/Banshee, they will need a bigger queue than what Thunderhead at Dollywood has. That is a small queue and I would think they would want enough queue to hold about an hour`s worth of a wait.

LA Times article on RMC at Cedar Fair
CoastersRZ replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yeah, RMC doesn`t pick their projects. They might choose not to submit a response to an RFP that a park issued, but if they want a project bad enough, they will submit a response, no matter what the existing ride layout is. Sometimes the most stringent restraints create the most creative, interesting and fun layouts. Look at all the height restrictions that Alton Towers has, and how some of their rides interact with the terrain. -
Bkroz, why do you think Boo Blaster`s won`t be around in 2018? If they do anything to the ride, I would imagine it would be some kind of retheme, but keeping the ride conveyance system.
-
I rode Boo Blasters today, and it seemed sad. Sounded like half of the soundtrack wasn`t working. There were areas where you only heard one sound effect going. It was really sad. I think a ride themed to the Peanuts would be a big hit. Especially if they were able to add a Christmas overlay to it for Winterfest.

What is people`s insistence on it being a drop track? Also, since when are people structural engineers and know what element will or will not be based on the shape of the footings? As I have said before, I think that part of what is in the shed will be the transfer/storage track area. What else KI has in store, I do not know. Based on the my trip up the Eiffel Tower, I think the station will end up being fairly close to both the train tracks and Race For Your Life Charlie Brown. There certainly doesn`t seem like there will be much room for a big queue line. I could see them taking out some of the trees by the train exit to expand the midway/provide a queue. Is it April 15th yet?

What would be the return on investment by enclosing the ride? There would have to be some RoI for them to consider such a move. I don`t see what benefit it would have, and therefore do not see anything like this happening.

LA Times article on RMC at Cedar Fair
CoastersRZ replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Did RMC do the retracking on Thunder Run? If they did, they used conventional wooden coaster track, and not any of their topper track. I wouldn`t consider Kentucky Kingdom having two RMC creations, as Thunder Run is the same ride design as when it opened. I have ridden Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City. While the ride was fun, and we grabbed a couple rides on it, I wouldn`t rate it in my top ten. I haven`t had a chance to get down to Kentucky Kingdom to check out Storm Chaser yet. -
That is temporary bracing, until they get all the permanent bracing for the bents up. Then they will remove the angular temporary braces.

LA Times article on RMC at Cedar Fair
CoastersRZ replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
That article was interesting to say the least. The author added a fair bit of his own opinion into the ride, such as the comment about The Racer. While it is an interesting article to read, I wouldn`t put much faith in every Cedar Fair park eventually becoming home to a RMC ride. If these rides have staying power, I could eventually see a fair majority of Cedar Fair parks receiving a RMC. That being said, I think KI will be among the last to receive one, given that we are getting a GCI for 2017. -
Wildfire at Kolmården

As some one who deals with permits as part of my job (some municipalities are easier to deal with than others), I have to wonder how this coaster was approved in the first place. It is one thing if the permit is denied after initial plans are submitted. But it is different, and this appears to be the case here, that the ride was originally permitted. Granted, it seems like the municipality is saying that the ride has a greater impact than originally proposed. Hopefully the park can file the necessary paper work and propose a viable solution so that they can receive their permit and reopen the ride. I am sure the park would hate to have to tear down or drastically modify the ride, especially with the level of investment they have in the attraction. -
I doubt you see The Beast open. But you very well could see some Snoopy attractions. Particularly Boo Blasters, and potentially The Great Pumpkin Coaster and the Carousel in Planet Snoopy. Also, the Grand Carousel and Kings Island Miami Valley Railroad will likely be open. These were open for the 2005 version of Winterfest, and the original incarnation of Winterfest.

The first thing I thought of when I read the headline is that Matt Ouimet was leaving Cedar Fair. He and his team seam to have done wonders for Cedar Fair financially. Zimmerman was promoted to Regional VP back in 2007. I believe at the time, he was placed in charge of several parks (the Eastern parks if my memory serves me correctly). I wonder if this will be true of Greg Scheid. He has been with KI since shortly after Cedar Fair took over. As an aside, several past GMs of Kings Island have moved onto bigger and better things as well. Craig Ross is now the President of the Dollywood Company, which is owned jointly by Herschend Family Entertainment and Dolly Parton. The Dollywood Company owns Dollywood, Dollywood`s Splash County, Dollywood Cabins and Dollywood`s DreamMore Resort. Jane Cooper started her career at Kings Island, and eventually became CEO of Paramount Parks. Today, she is President and COO of Herschend Family Entertainment. Al Weber was the GM of Kings Island from 1992-1997. He was Paramount Parks CEO from 2002-2006 (when the parks were sold to Cedar Fair). He had short stints as interim CEO of Six Flags, and Palace Entertainment. He is currently the CEO and President of Apex Parks Group, which owns Indiana Beach, among others (http://www.apexparksgroup.com/) That was probably way more information than most people wanted. But I like creating posts rich in content. It has been a while since I have been on here to do that. Life has been pretty busy for me lately.
