  1. Which is not to be confused with Coney Island of Cincinnati, which was also briefly called Old Coney.
  2. And for those wondering, the effects on Adventure Express were created by R & R Creative. They were also responsible for Phantom Theater. See their website here: http://www.randrdesign.com/styled/index.html
  3. Enjoy Canada`s Wonderland. I made a trip up there last spring and enjoyed the park.
  4. And sadly, those fog machines have since disappeared. Always made for interesting night rides.
  5. Coney does not yet use direct deposit. They issue paychecks (no cash) every two weeks.
  6. Yep, the remnants of the old Bier Garden are still there. These days that is the commissary where all the food for the company picnics is prepared. Yes, the tunnels for the train (north west corner of Lake Como are still there. All group picnics and Moonlite Gardens parking crosses over these tunnels. The arcade building started life as just that, part of the arcade. It also was home to offices, which it still is home to offices today. The building also houses storage on the upper floor, and is home to the employee cafe. The four twisted trees down by the river is still there; although the canopies of the trees have been removed, after suffering a hit from a lightning strike a few seasons ago. Of course the main parking gate entrance (Gate 2) is still there from Coney`s hey day, as is the lighthouse and boat entrance from the river.
  7. If anyone is interested in earning some extra cash on weekends, the rides department is looking for some extra help on weekends from now until mid- October. It is an easy job and lots of fun. If anyone is interested, or knows anyone that is interested, please let me know. Thanks, Robbie CoastersRZ Coney Island Rides Manager
  8. I didn`t know that they had been charging more for weekend parking. Working at Coney on the weekends, I only tend to visit KI in the summer on weekday evenings.
  9. One thing to note on the website is the parking price. Day of Auto is listed as $15. Advanced Auto is listed as $12. Has Kings Island ever done this for parking prices in the past? Haunt or otherwise?
  10. Could this be the beginning of the end of traditional wooden roller coasters? At least at the major corporate theme parks? The last new GCI ride to be built in the United States was in 2013. Only time will tell.
  11. Well, ponder this. The rides side has seen a new addition each of the last three seasons. The last new addition over at Sunlite Pool was Twister, which opened in 2009. This year saw the introduction of TopSpin and Fender Bender. Last year saw the introduction of Wipeout. And 2013 saw the introduction of Como Cruisers, which replaced the Bumper Boats. I think its about time the pool get something new. I agree that a log flume on the dry side would be a big hit. So too would a miniature train ride akin to Stricker`s Grove. I also think that a Gravity Group ride would be an immense hit at Coney...
  12. If you want parking on your Cedar Point pass, you have to go with Platinum.
  13. That was one of the first things I noticed when the passes went on sale. And I believe that there was one year, I think fall of 2011, where 2012 passes were on sale for $69.
  14. That looks like a crazy intense ride experience (and not for those prone to motion sickness) and it does not look like a very high capacity ride.
  15. See, I thoroughly enjoyed I-305 at Kings Dominion. Voyage is a little too brutal of a ride for me. Ghostrider was pretty rough when I rode it back in April. My wife and I rode it one time on our visit to Knott`s and that was enough for us. It definitely needed some rehab. And remember, wood coasters always require some tender loving care to keep them smooth and enjoyable. Without that TLC, they start to ride rough and are less enjoyable.
  16. They do not HAVE to make a move. People will still go to Kings Island next year, even if they do not add a single new attraction. How many typical families from Cincinnati are going to make the trek down to Santa Claus, IN? Or down to Kentucky Kingdom?
  17. It should be noted that KI did add an elevator to the front gate this year. It is located to the left of the entrance, right in the area where they used to display promotional items. They reconfigured the stairs and storefront in that area to accommodate the elevator.
  18. Yes, all of Coney`s parking lots were full by about 8:30pm! We were afraid the rain was going to hit briefly around 7:30, which would have been no fun, but we lucked out in that regard. The park was crazy buzy, which is good! The fireworks were wonderful as always. The rides were not open until midnight. We had all ride lines cut by 11pm, with the last public riders off the rides by 11:30. We did run Round Up, Wipe Out and Top Spin for our rider operators close to midnight. Hey, you work hard at an amusement park, you play hard and celebrate making it through a very long and busy day!
  19. Well if they weren`t reprofiled and trims weren`t added, how does the air time disappear? Unless they made the wheels harder to turn, increasing friction and slowing the trains down on their own.
  20. I can attest to the fact that City Museum is a must visit. I went there several years back. The place is simply amazing. It even has a Ferris Wheel on the top of the building! A wonderful place to become a kid again and spend many hours of fun exploring the building. I second TombRaiderFTW`s endorsement!
  21. Hosscat, That is wonderful news! Thanks for helping maintain a part of Kings Island history. I love the classic sound of a band organ. It sure beats the piped in music!
  22. I was fortunate enough to ride Skyrider last year, so I can say that I rode all three Togo stand ups at the former KECO parks. King Cobra and Skyrider were nearly identical in layout and Shockwave had a slightly different ending. The rides were fun. I thoroughly enjoyed King Cobra more than Mantis or even Vortex at Carowinds. I was not sad to see Mantis retrofitted. I was sad when King Cobra left Kings Island though. Stand ups are on their way out. I wonder what Kings Dominion has planned to replace Shockwave.
  23. Having visited both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the two resorts are really quite different. I visited Disneyland this past April on my honeymoon. We could literally hear the fireworks from Disneyland from our hotel, which was within walking distance of the park. And it was not a Disney owned hotel. Also, the highway is easy access to Disneyland and its parking structures. We did not use the parking structures when we were there, as our hotel was a quick five minute walk to the park gates. And as the others have mentioned, there are residences within close proximity to the Disneyland resort. It will be interesting to see how they expand the Disneyland resort. I enjoyed Disneyland, but everything seemed a bit smaller when compared to the Magic Kingdom. Yes, they did a fantastic job of screening the outside world when you are in the park. California Adventure still felt a little awkward in my opinion. I loved the rides there, but the Paradise Pier area felt a little too much like a typical amusement park (which is the opposite of what Walt set out to create when he was designing Disneyland. The Carsland area is amazingly themed, and well worth the visit, though. We ended up having ridden everything by about 4pm on our visit to California Adventure. Although, Soarin` was down for refurbishment, a ride that we both dearly missed having ridden its counterpart at EPCOT back in 2013. WDW is just so much more spread out. It doesn`t feel as if everything is on top of each other like it does at Disneyland. I am interested to see what changes Disney has in store for Hollywood Studios in the coming years. If things fall into place right, I may get to visit Disneyland again in 2016 and Walt Disney World as well. (We missed out on Matterhorn as that was down for rehab, and my last visit to the Magic Kingdom was before the Seven Dwarves Mine Train was open).
  24. Out of park spending means exactly what you thought it does. Carowinds also has a campground. And Knott`s has a hotel on property as well. I believe that the out of park money also includes the TGI Friday`s location (it is a franchise) at both Breaker`s and across from the main entrance to Knott`s.
