  1. I wouldn`t look to see Raging Wolf Bobs come to Coney... Why spend so much money on a park that is in the flood plain? Well, people do come for the pool, and they did spend $2 million on the Twister water slide back in 2009. I still have nothing official to report. There are a few clues around the park that one maybe able to find if they look in the right spots...
  2. If rain is in the forecast, they will often use the lower platform, since the floor of the upper platform can serve as a roof protecting guests from the rain.
  3. There is a field across from Riverdowns (down by the stables) that is used for the busiest of concerts. I think that land belongs to Riverdowns, but am unsure of that. It will be interesting to see what their plans entail for the property.
  4. Having recently visited Soak City at Cedar Point for a few hours on a recent trip, I have some things to say about Soak City up there. First, there is a lack of restrooms up there. Kings Island`s does not have that problem. However, it would be a hard PR sell to start charging admission for Soak City at Kings Island now. I agree that Kings Island`s Soak City could use some new slides to boost capacity. I don`t foresee any new slides coming in the next few years though, unfortunately.
  5. The new owner`s of River Downs have kept pretty quiet. I had heard a rumor that they were thinking about not letting concert goers park in their lots, which would pose issues since sold out concerts generate more cars than Coney can accomodate in their lots. It will be interesting to see how River Downs integrates the slots into their facility and if they end up building a parking garage. I wonder what time frame they are thinking about. As a history note, back when River Downs first opened, it was known as Coney Island Racetrack. But legal issues over gambling forces Coney ownership to divest the race track and focus solely on the amusement park facility. And technically, no Coney property abuts Riverdowns property. Their is a small flagpole of Riverbend property (just wide enough for a drive aisle in the parking lot, that runs from Riverbend out to Kellogg Avenue.
  6. Schlitterbahn must be doing something right, because it seems like they have been expanding a lot over the last several years.
  7. Ferris Wheel`s are great additions to parks. Believe it or not, the Ferris Wheel at Coney was my favorite ride to work. Ask any one in the rides department at Coney, and that ride is "my ride."
  8. Well, for starters, there has to be something officially going on for an announcement to occur. Then again, sometimes an announcement can occur when nothing is going on either... Good things usually come to those who wait (but not always, and sometimes people are still waiting for good things to come).
  9. The floral clock spins backwards because Coney is "turning back the clock" an the classic amusement park feel. That is the explanation that I have received on why the clock spins backwards. We actually got a new mp3 player in carousel that has about five hours of carousel music on it.
  10. Oldiesman, I believe I saw you a couple times on the third, including when you were in line for Rock O Planes a little after 11 and there was a protein spill on it. How was your visit? Did you have fun?
  11. As others have said you usually won't encounter too long of lines, provided there are not a lot of group picnics at the park. Obviously if you are going to do Sunlite pool, you would want to leave some more time. Definitely make sure to hit up both Tempest and Rock O Planes, as they are both very fun and unique rides. Admission prices are relatively cheap. $21.95 pool and rides combo ticket, Rides are $11.95 and $7.95 after 4pm. Hope that helps.
  12. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20120702/BIZ/307020030/River-Downs-applies-slots?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE Regardless on your stance on gambling, the requirement to invest $125 million for the slots facility could drasctically change the way that Riverdowns looks in the future, including how Kellogg avenue looks down by Coney. I wonder where they would build this facility, and how it would impact parking for Riverbend concerts.
  13. No updates on any announcement yet or even if there will end up being an announcement at all. But there are some clues as to what maybe coming, if you know where to look... Is that cyrptic enough for you? Remember, that this Tuesday is July 3rd. That is Coney`s LaRosa`s balloon glow event. Hot air balloons light up the sky from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday. And then Rozzi`s Famous Fireworks fly over Lake Como at 10pm. Sunlite pool is open until 9:30 and the rides are open until 11pm that night. I`ll be working down there all day on Tuesday, so stip on by and say hi!
  14. That kind of makes sense. But keep in mind that when maintenance workers are walking the track of wooden coasters, they are tied off. So in the event that they do slip, their safety harness is going to catch them and prevent any serious injuries.
  15. Very well put. Wood is a flexible material. It inherently will sway and move when temporary heavy loads are placed on it, such as a roller coaster train. If it was so rigid that it didn`t sway it would become brittle and break, which would not be good. The swaying helps the structure evenly distribute the loads across all members.
  16. My guess is they are there to try and help keep things in proper alignment. I believe The Racer got similar rails in parts of its course as well last season.
  17. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2012/02/17/slideshow-here-are-the-10.html?s=image_gallery Check out what ranks #4 on the list.
  18. Precisely. Gaylord doesn`t have the best track record for running parks in the long term. I don`t know if I ever found out when the jv with Dollywood was announced. But Dollywood is a partnership with Herschend Entertainment. So is Herschend entertainment in any way involved in this joint venture?
  19. I would be weary of riding any ride if I had congestive heart failure with a defibulator. Just doesn`t seem worth the risk to me, and those of you who know me, know that I pretty much live for amusement parks and roller coasters.
  20. I wonder why they brought those back? I`m sure there was some incident that prompted their return.
  21. It will be interesting to see what happens. It certainly seems that the fair board is a hard group to work with. As a park enthusiast, I hope that the Koch`s and the fair board can get this ironed out and Bluegrass Boardwalk can be a sucess. I am skeptical at this point though. There are a lot of ts that need to be crossed and is dotted.
  22. I believe only Kings Island Platinum Pass holders are eligible for Fun Perks, as Kings Island is the only park currently doing Fun Perks.
  23. Well, that is why I said the word usually. Good things do not always pan out, even for those who are well intentioned...
  24. Patience young grass hopper. Good things usually come to those who wait.
  25. I do have had connectivity issues with my data on my iPhone inside of Kings Island. When will we see Kings Island start to implement free WiFi hotspots? Most restaurants nowadays have some sort of free WiFi, and even Holiday World has free WiFi hotspots.
