  1. I find the ERT sessions a little puzzling. I can understand having the rides in Planet Snoopy and Diamondback. The two that leave me scratching my head are Invertigo and the Eiffel Tower. Those two rides aren`t exactly in the same area of the park as the rest of the rides. How will they handle the crowd control of those enjoying ERT? Will there be one early ride time entrance, and then you are free to roam all the way over to Action Zone? It will be interesting to see how this works. The Beast is not really a surprise. Most days, you can get there right at 10am, or even thirty minutes later, and The Beast will have no line to a very minimal wait time.
  2. I will be going to this concert. I saw them once in concert in the mid-90s at Riverfront Stadium. I was really bummed when their tour did not include a stop at Riverbend. I`m excited to go.
  3. The ride was incredibly rough last year when I rode it in the early season. And honestly, I`m not sure if I want to make the drive out to Holiday World since the ride will not have the new Timberliners on it for this season. I wonder why the trains were not delivered on time. The trains have successfully completed a season on two different wooden roller coasters. Maybe there were some unforeseen issues that arose after inspecting those trains at the completion of the 2011 season.
  4. Most of the wave pools are site specific. There is no value in moving a concrete slab to a new site. Its unfortunate that pass holders to The Beach will not get their money back. At least some businesses are offering to step in and offer free admission. Obviously, the goal there is for those businesses to try and secure new customers
  5. A couple things to note in the above image. One, the pavement below the Monster was painted. Two, The Racer brake run was not enclosed like it is today. Three, the two games buildings are not connected in the back like they are today. Also, you can clearly see the last hill of The Racer that has since been removed. And you can clearly tell that Flight of Fear resides on land that used to belong to the animal habitat.
  6. To echo the other`s sentiments, bring on the aerial pictures from Coney Island! Awesome pictures Ty!
  7. Yes, Cedar Fair has a planning and design department, based in Sandusky. It is headed by Rob Decker. They come up with the initial concept designs for buildings. They then pass those concepts off to an architectural firm who turns those concepts into a real buildable design. There is actually a small architecture firm here in Cincinnati that does the architectural work for Kings Island, and has done several other parks as well (Dorney Park, Carowinds, Kings Dominion, to name a few). This firm has been doing the architecture work at Kings Island since the early 1990s. I was actually fortunate enough to have co-oped at this firm for six months and was able to work on some amusement park projects! It was a very exciting co-op position!
  8. http://masonbuzz.com/2012/03/15/the-beach-season-pass-refunds-up-in-the-air/ Some people still aren`t thrilled with the Kings Island offer, and want to get their money back. At this point, there is no decision on if money will be refunded for passes that were already purchased. And Gordon Bombay, we definitely need to grab lunch again sometime, especially when we both have more time to talk! I really enjoyed catching up!
  9. And Cedar Fair had to pay a substantial amount of money to Apollo once the deal was broken off. Not to mention the cost of all the lawyer fees and special meetings that were held. And now look at the price of Cedar Fair units. Apollo wanted to buy for $11.50 a share. At this moment, units are trading at $29.59, just off of the 52 week high. The complaints issued in that link Interpreter posted are eerily familiar to similar complaints lodged against Apollo when they entered into an agreement with Cedar Fair. Apollo certainly seems to have a rocky relationship with acquiring properties.
  10. And I continue to wonder how things will play out at the parks, and what new strategies/policies will be implemented this season and in future seasons.
  11. To put it in verbal terms, "snapping" refers to getting your tub to fly in a manner where it stalls out. In other words, you get some slack in the cables. When the cables then catch up to the motion of the ride, there is a snapping sound of the cables. Sometimes your tub is jolted upwards as your tub is yanked by the cables. Flying Eagles are an incredibly fun ride. A ride that is still sorely missed from Kings Island all these years later after its removal.
  12. Of course what has been done in past years may not necessarily hold true for this season. Remember, there is a different CEO this year, and the way things have been done in the past does not necessarily mean things will be done the same way this season.
  13. The Cincinnati zoo has been doing a LOT to reinvest in new exhibits. Heck, from when I was younger and went on school field trips there to now, they`ve essentially built an entire new parking lot and front entrance to the zoo, and scores of new animal exhibits. I haven`t been there in the summer/spring in quite some time. I went there for Festival of Lights back in 2009, and was a little disapointed because of the lack of open animal exhibits.
  14. Yeah. I was not all that impressed with Intimidator. It was a fun ride, I just found it to not be quite as fun as what Diamondback was. It did have a little bit less air time than what Diamondback has. The one thing that Diamondback has going for it is the site and surroundings is a lot nicer than waht Intimidator is; it straddles the parking lot for its entire run.
  15. Your restraint did not "popped up a click." The Diamondback restraints, as with all coaster restraints, have a little bit of room, where they can move up slightly before catching the locked position. This movement is what you probably thought as your restraing popping up a click, but in actuality, it never popped up.
  16. I have never been to the Columbus Zoo. I really need to get up there sometime soon. But there are so many things to do between now and then. Especially with amusement park season upon us in the coming weeks.
  17. And they actually let you snap the cables, hence the Snap! comment from The Interpreter. They are a really fun ride. Its still ashame that they had to be moved from our park.
  18. Carowinds is a fun park. All the days I have visited it, the crowds have been on the lighter side (I visited opening day when Intimidator opened, and the longest we had to wait for the ride that day was twenty minutes). Afterburn is a really fun ride, and one of the best B&M inverted coasters I`ve been on. Don`t miss Hurler, it is a fun little ride (as is Ricochet). Vortex is a nice little standup from B&M as well. When you go down there, don`t forget to ride the Flying Eagles ride that used to be at Kings Island. It is a must ride! Carowinds is a really nice park. Their water park is surrounded by Thunder Road and more "integrated" into their park. Enjoy your trip, and share with us how you liked the park.
  19. Please keep any further conversations on the Beach`s closing in this thread: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25187&pid=454888&st=0entry454888
  20. Really kind of surprising. They cited "changing patron entertainment habits" as part of the reason for the closure, as well as the fact that the park was operating at a loss for several seasons. I think part of their problem was lack of any new attractions to market. They had kind of stagnated the last few years. And I`m sure that Kings Island`s water park expansion didn`t help. This is the second local water park to close. Some may remember Surf Cincinnati. Now, the only ones that are left are Kings Island`s and Coney Islands water parks, and the two indoor water parks, Coco Key and Great Wolf Lodge. I find it odd they cited changing patron entertainment habits. Holiday World`s Splashin` Safari seems to be doing quite nicely, and there has been a lot of expansion in the indoor water park arena in the last decade. That too, could have hurt The Beach, with the Great Wolf Lodge so close by. I wonder if anyone will step forward to purchase the park, or if it will just sit dormant.
  21. Yep. I believe that is the distinction. Essentially, biggest element, verse the tallest element above the ground.
  22. Its ashame that so few of these rides are left. The Whip at Dorney Park is an awesome attraction. The Hersheypark version isn`t quite as fun, and has newer cars on it.
  23. I believe that other parks, even those withing the Cedar Fair chain, that have B&M hypers do not have the same shoes are required rule on their respective rides.
  24. I personally have never even gone to a concert at Riverbend. I`ve heard more than my fair share of music from there over the years working at Coney. Its always interesting to see the crowds of people that some of the concerts attract. I have many stories I can share about people going to concerts from my years of working at Coney.
  25. Things like that can take time. Unforseen things can happen which cause things to take longer. With my role at my current job as the I.T. guy, I can attest to the fact that things you expect to take x amount of time, can often take 2x to complete. Not to mention that the algorithms they use to splice the images together, as well as ensuring that people are not in the images they use can take time to create an adequate street view.
