  1. And Alabama Adventures sans the Waterpark and Rampage is what exactly?
  2. Based On Popular Culture. From CheatSheet: http://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/6-of-the-best-theme-park-attractions-based-on-pop-culture.html/?a=viewall
  3. That and how long does any coaster that size really take to build? Seldom do coasters that size start with ground clearing and excavation the season before.
  4. The industry defines failure in whether a ride met its goals or not. Tomb Raider: The Ride was meant to be an initial first step in transforming the park back into an immersive, highly themed experience. At that, it succeeded. It was a failure mechanically, as HUSS giant rides all too often are (see also Dollywood). It also was supposed to increase attendance and pay for itself. It certainly did the former. The latter information is proprietary and has never been publicly discussed. If the ride was a failure, it certainly cannot compare to Son of Beast. Little can. Even if Tomb Raider: The Ride was the only Giant Top Spin On The Planet. It speaks volumes no more were built or sold.
  5. Before someone asks, this ain't it: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/31658-new-alabama-amusement-park/#entry706373 Unrelated.

  7. One of the best threads ever here. I promised myself in five years I'd bring it back....
  8. In this business, that which does not get better may well go bankrupt. A little site reorganization, if you will. Terp, up and at'em since 3 AM...today.
  9. I remember 10 PM October Sunday closes.
  10. And Lance Hart would hate to think of who would follow Kinzel. Proof yet again that when it comes to true industry insight, it's probably best not to seek it at Screamscape. Worth reading for the gossip, occasional leak, links, etc. But industry insight? No. And Q was already well involved at the time of Lance's comment. The successor? Matt Ouimet. And not a Kinzel relative, pal, crony or boardroom chum. You can thank Geoff Raynor and Q for that. And the topic title? Resignation confirmed? No. That's not the way the courts saw it.
  11. For the benefit of those looking at this far in the future, see also: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/26954-county-officials-amusement-park-must-come-up-with-tax-payment-plan-or-face-public-auction-in-september/
  12. It's not on the way to anywhere. There's not a huge assortment of rides. Few people have even heard of it. Years ago, a friend who was then a PR Director of one of the Nation's most prominent small parks heard I was considering a trip to Darien Lake. To Sylvan Beach you must go he said. And I did. Quiet. Relaxing. Like going back in time. It was awesome: http://www.sylvanbeachamusementpark.com/ They don't open until Memorial Day. They do very little marketing. The Galaxi is incredible: http://rcdb.com/4680.htm The place is a hidden gem. ****** Then there's Seabreeze near Rochester. A place that never fails to make me happy. In 2014, I saw Trevor and his bike there after the Kings Island Cirque had gone dark. Totally unexpectedly. Unique park food. Resort atmosphere. Beautiful lake. Unusual coasters. Nice people. **** Both parks are in resort areas. Have lodging pre-planned. Or be somewhere else by sleepy-time. And let me add--I love New York. It's so much more than just the City. The City is fascinating, but the state even more so. And some of the nicest people in the whole world live there. Terp, native Northeasterner born and raised somewhere else.
  13. Surprise, surprise: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/6572 CLOSED.
  14. A friend just sent me this: Closed Due To Rapture. This link is not to be missed. http://www.bgdailynews.com/news/funtown-mountain-closed-due-to-rapture/article_6177b087-c0fe-566a-a85a-59a8434db024.html Really?
  15. To show prospective bidders the great competitive interest, of course.
  16. I wouldn't stay there under any circumstances. The last time I did, I thought I heard scratching in the next room. That room's occupant, an ACE friend, heard the same thing, but thought it was in mine. When I got home, I noticed there were tiny bite marks on my luggage. My friend later told me his had a hole chewed through the bottom. Uh, no. Just no. Not to mention no air conditioning, no elevator, linens that looked like they were last washed years ago, no shower, and a musty, musty smell--as if the roof had been leaking. Loud, loud music from downstairs that went on til 2 AM....it was...an experience. Not to be repeated.
  17. ...especially given Cedar Fair paid $1.24 billion for JUST the Paramount Parks and Dick Kinzel tried to buy himself and select family members a golden parachute by trying to sell out to Apollo Global for little more than half that--$635 million. There isn't a day that goes by that I'm not thankful for Geoff Raynor, the Knott family and Q.
  18. Like they made in 2005? Winterfest 2005 was an unbelievably successful event. It achieved its goals and far, far exceeded them. CBS was undoubtedly beyond pleased when June 30, 2006 rolled around. Strategic planning. Successful marketing. Know what you want to do and do it well. They did. And did.
  19. Mr. Hart brooks NO criticism. He prefers happy talk and toadies. 2016 may be a difficult year for his precious miasma.
  20. I'd be careful here. You might want in that park next year.... Terp, been there, left at the gate.
  21. The sale was announced July 31, 1992 and was expected to close by October 31, 1992. http://www.thefreelibrary.com/AMERICAN+FINANCIAL+CORPORATION+TO+SELL+KINGS+ISLAND+THEME+PARK+TO...-a012412614 This article correctly states the transaction. At the time of sale, Kings Island was not part of KECO--Carl Lindner's Great American Financial owned Kings Island (and sold it to Paramount). Lindner's company kept the golf center, the Inn and Conference Center....
  22. ....Some of Captain Nemo's best work! And a fun thread, too. Nearly 10 years ago...
  23. Kings Dominion competes against a highly themed, immersive park. Kings Island, in reality, doesn't have an on par (or better) park competitor. See also Knotts Berry Farm on the one hand and Dorney Park on the other.
  24. A lot of interesting stuff here. BGW could have been in Columbus. (Would Geauga Lake still be open?). CBSKI. And was the whole thing a sorta test and get acquainted event?
  25. Do you live outside Kentucky? Perhaps they needed you and could count on you. Terp, who does not live in a state.
