Buy a carowinds pass and get free admission to Scarowinds all year long!
Gordon Bombay replied to kjkjkj's topic in Rumors
Actually, I remember when FF did go free, people were on the message boards upset by the possibility of long lines for Halloween stuff. Thats neat and all, and I read message boards and have heard people complain about the lines, not to mention experienced them first hand, with you but that didn't answer my question, which was posed to Gatorhead who worked admissions at the time. -

When working admissions Gatorhead, did you ever encounter anyone who was taken off guard by the original fearfest upcharge then decided to just turn around and go home? -
Led Zeppelin testing video

You better not spend your hard earned money to come to Kings Island then... we have a lot of clones. (Not that Led Zeppelin is a clone, it's not) Nor is the food reasonable, although Hank, where did you find the food prices for Hard Rock Park at? -

With all due respect, you'd say that no matter what it was, as most of us are well aware. That being said, I hope and trust that those who learned a lesson from Winterfest pricing are both still around and listened to. Well considering nothing has been 100 percent confirmed or officially announced with KI's operating schedule, pricing for HH or if passholders will even need to know about pricing for HH, I'm not willing to rule out any possibilities yet until the park releases an official word. If it was doomed from day one and the great experiment failed so bad, then why did CBS (Paramount) plan to bring it back for the 2006 season? Cedar Fair were the ones who cancelled it after their acquisition was completed, CBS was advertising it and even selling pre sale tickets. -

Two people have mentioned cloning in this topic, what is everyone claiming this coaster is a clone of? I agree, not to mention once it gets dirty it will really show. Unless they keep up the paint on that thing, its going to really start looking like crap. I believe that video cut out early since nothing more could be seen from that angle. After it hits the breaks seen in that video it continues into a downward helix, another corkscrew, then and upward helix. haha, i agree, for all we know this could end up being one of the best steels out there. We have no idea how the inversions or forces feel. Firehawk from the midway looks slow, especially in the loop. But darn, Firehawk is one intense coaster, especially when you are in the back and you get pulled through that loop! -
I am probably in the minority of those who thought transformers was a terrible movie. A bunch of cgi metal flying around and you couldn't see hardly any details. However, I do agree though, with the popularity of that ride Paramount could have really done a good ride to it, or atleast had the potential to use it for excellent promotion.

Man, that would be cool! I can't stand the original Battlstar Galactica but the the re-imagined series they have today is absolutely great. One of the few shows I watch reguarly on tv. Too bad that didn't come around sooner....maybe we would have seen a BSG ride. Anyone know when they did away with the military themed uniforms of the ride? I'd love to have one of the berets the employees wore.

Geeze, can't you read the whole topic before commenting Interpreter? Thats the only little piece of the newspaper I have, no date was given, nothing on the other side either.

So I came across a really neat article from the Cincinnati Enquirer's Temp section about the delays and unique engineering of the Outer Limits: Flight of Fear (now simply Flight of Fear) in 1996 at the then Paramount's Kings Island. It features some interviews with the former vice president of construction and maintenance; Dave Focke. If you don't want to read the article in that form, i was nice enough to type up a transcript for you... Well there you have it. The article date was not given on the little clip I have. I remember how awesome the themed area and queue line looked when it first opened. I didn't ride it in 1996, but I remember waiting in line with my parents. I liked how the article had no mention as to what the Outer Limits tv show was or what the ride was supposed to be themed to. I didn't even know about the Outer Limits tv show until I saw a re-run on the sci-fi channel years later after fof opened. I always thought it would have been better if they had themed it to Star Trek: The Next Generation. In comparison to CP's 1996 expansion, Mantis, I think KI definitely took the cake between the two parks that year. Can't really remember what other parks installed that year off the top of my head... Anyways, hope you enjoyed the article. Anyone have any idea whose opened first....(p)KD's or (p)KI's?

1980's Intamin ride catalog
Gordon Bombay replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Shaggy, the astrowheel was gone long beofore astroworld was completely closed and demolished wasn't it? I don't remember seeing it during my first, only, and last visit in 2004. I bet my dad remembers it though, he used to work in operations management down there. -

^Very true. How do we know KI is meeting expectations? We don't know what goals/attendance figures/expectations they strived to achieve or projected to achieve nor do we know what they actually got. -

I think I'd find it very odd if Carowinds and KI switched roles...all the sudden Carowinds is included with admission and KI's is an upcharge yet again. While the general opinion of KI's Halloween Haunt seems to be a bit of an upgrade over the fearfest of the past years, I've always heard that Carowinds' event was held in much higher regard than the other Paramount Park's events, and theme park halloween events in general. -

No, but it could be a sign of things to come. KD has free Halloween Haunt with a pass or admission this year I believe. -
Great photo KIFan73, and great topic idea! Currently I don't have the majority of my pics from KI on this laptop but heres one of my favorites from one of my park trips this summer. I went to Holiday World for the first time, and encountered a long, boring drive to an over rated park where a bad experience and bad service awaited me. However, sometimes you take a photograph that can completely turn your day around....this was one of them...

1980's Intamin ride catalog
Gordon Bombay replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
This is by far the coolest thing in the catalog... I knew they made the double like the zodiac at KI but I had no idea they had a triple! Does anyone know if this one is still operating at one of the great americas or which one it was at? I don't think any of these are around anymore. I know KI's was relocated to Australia's Wonderland (as was Flight Commander (seems everything in that spot at KI ended up going to AW)) and then relocated to Malaysia where no one knows if its operating or not. -
You could be on to something, we could be receiving different names however I've noticed that PKD tends to do a lot of press releases much earlier than KI in recent years. Typically their fearfest and most recently, Halloween Haunt press releases came out way before Kings Island's. PKD already announced (along with Carowinds) that next year Halloween Haunt will be included with a season pass and admission as well. It could be a sign that we are getting different names, however at the same time I wouldn't be shocked if they were the same. Cory and I were discussing the other day as to whether or not the mini cooper cars would have to be changed around or made to look different. Since the mini cooper (I assume) is seperate licensing than the Paramount/Viacom licensing, then I doubt that they would have to be changed. I do however wonder if they will have to be altered so as not to resemble the cars from the movie. IMHO, they should finnally repaint Top Gun. Give it Orange Track and Black Supports and call it The Bat or "Return of The Bat". Hell, even maybe "Son of Bat".

This may seem like an odd question, but I was wondering if anybody knew. I always remembered from growing up in the 90's, popping in a warner brothers movie in the VCR and seeing advertisements for Six Flags parks. I specifically remember a VHS tape my family had of one of the Batman films advertising the inverted Batman: The Ride rollercoasters at various Six Flags parks and the Penguin's water ride at SFKK. Back before Paramount was purchased by Cedar Fair you used to be able to watch an advertisement on the main Paramount Park's site that was a general advertisement for the PP parks across the country. The video showed various Paramount films such as Crocodile Dundee, Top Gun, Star Trek and then cut to clips of the rides and attractions corresponding to the movies. My questions are, does anyone know what commercial I'm talking about? It started with "For over 90 years the movies of Paramount have made you: laugh, scream, etc." and ended with "Experience the magic of the movies at one of the Paramount Parks across the nation" it then proceeded to show a map that included all 5 pp parks, bonfante gardens, and Star Trek: The experience. Does anyone know if this was shown nationwide? Also, prompted by watching Tomb Raider while sick from work today, I was wondering if PP ever did the pre-movie park and attraction advertisments like Six Flags and Disney did that I mentioned earlier. Anyone remember anything?

While, not the case with Tomb Raider, the theming on IJ was kept up....just most of it was never installed. Well....the headlights don't work anymore, the on ride sound is gone, but the police sirens came back after not working at all in 2006 and the smoke before the tunnel worked....nevermind. Ironically, most of the theming on KD's and Wonderland's IJ has been kept up last I heard. Given CF's track record with theming, even if TRTR or whatever they call it gets a theming overhaul, i dont expect much, nor do I expect it to consistently work. I can see it now.... TRTR is Disaster Warehouse, with a strobe light up top.....and thats it. Little Known Fact....the "fishtailing" effect on IJ is there, its only prevalent, hardly at that, in the rear seat of the last car. It was just way overhyped.

Not only was it too small....but its gone... Queen City Discovery - Island Mini Golf -
I would not walk on the land of the old Ludlow Lagoon today its a toxic waste dump. It has been covered up with a lot of dirt so not much to see anymore. Are any remnants of the park still standing? I kind of like exploring abandoned amusement parks... http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com/200...01_archive.html
