  1. I'm lucky as my 5-year old just hits the 48" mark. We went 2x this summer, the first time, some times he made it and some times he did not. It depended on the ride and where he stood - he was that close. The second time, we went to the wristband place where you enter the park, and he was not tall enough. So I tore it off, and he made Flight Deck, Adventure Express, The Blue Racer, but not the Red Racer. So we went to Nickelodeon, where he was measeured and made the 48" cutoff - so we were set the rest of the day. He rode all the rollercoasters he could except for Vortex (his choice) and Son of Beast (my choice). He enjoyed The Beast, but did not want to go again as I think he got banged around a little. He's up for it next year though. My daughter was 52 1/2 inches, so perhaps next year she will be able to ride all the coasters, and I will be able to ride Firehawk, FOF Invertigo, and even Diamondback for the first time. She rode Son of Beast in 2007 and she wanted none of it this year. She did get up the courage to ride Vortex though, and eventually rode it 3x.
  2. Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed and knowledgeable report. I'm reading closely as we are taking our 7 and 5 year old to Orlando during Thanksgiving week. We plan on 5 days at Disney, 1 day at Universal, and perhaps 1 day at Sea World. My kids know nothing about taking a day off. We may have a few late starts though.
  3. Due to the height of my kids, I have not yet ridden several of the rides that have a minimum 54" height requirement. That should change in '09. 1. Beast 2. SOB 3. Racer 4. Vortex 5. BLSC We also took the kids to Busch Gardens Europe this year, and have been to Disney recently, so if I added those to the mix. 1. Beast 2. Alpengeist 3. SOB 4. Appollo's Chariot 5. Close call b/w Loch Ness Monster, Space Mountain and California Screamin'
  4. Last year was my first trip to KI in over 15 years. This year, we took the kids twice. I have now ridden AE twice, and must say I am not a big fan. While I often read people complaining about the roughness of The Beast or the Son of Beast, it is actually AE that has caused me the most discomfort - and has done so without the thrills. I was also expecting something good after that last lift hill, only to be left at the end of the ride - a big letdown. It is one of the rides that if my kids want to go on it, I do not mind passing. If I had to rank the coasters I've ridden at KI, they would go: (Keep in mind, I like speed and intensity) 1. Beast 2. Son of Beast 3. Racer 4. Vortex 5. BLSC 6. Flight Deck 7. Fairly Odd Coaster 8. AE 9. Runaway Reptar I have not had a chance to ride Firehawk, FOF or Invertigo as my kids are not tall enough yet. My daughter should cross the 54" threshold next season though. I would ride the first 7 anytime. The last 2 - I do not mind missing.
  5. Waited for the Lion Country Safari the first year it was open for about 3 hours if I remember correctly. Pretty cool, but not worth it to a little kid who wanted to be riding rides. I don't think I've waited more than 2 hours for anything else, and even those waits were several years ago.
  6. Lots of the old flat rides were fun - tumble bug, the Rotor, Antique cars, the Bayern Curve were all some of my favorites. I would like to see them bring a few of these types of rides back.
