  1. Seems to me from reading these posts is that most everyone wants a new steel coaster. I couldn't agree more. Think about this...the last time PKI put in a new major coaster, CP has put in three. I believe for PKI it was Son of Beast. CP has put in Millenium Force, Wicked Twister, and now Top Thrill Dragster. I'm not saying that PKI needs to put one in every year, but they need one soon. Whether people admit it or not, they are in direct competition with CP. And, what better to attract more people than a new coaster. There's not half the hype or buzz when you just put in a new flat ride.
  2. Over at screamscape.com, they are saying that PKI will probably not get a new coaster until 2005. Looks like they are going to expand & rename their waterpark. They mention improvements for Tomb Raider that would give a different random ride program. This is something that Disney has done with their tower of terror ride. And, it seems the general consensus is that it will be located between Son of Beast and Flight of Fear.
  3. True enough, Panther. But, what I think everyone forgets is that most of the coasters they mention that they don't like at CP are not major coasters either.
  4. Maybe we'll get to see a B&M flying coaster in '04. I agree with earlier posts that PKI will not try to put in a record breaking coaster. I believe I speak for all when I say we just want a quality coaster. I have wanted to go to SFGadv to ride their flying coaster, but I've heard that park is not very nice, clean, or have friendly employees. I don't agree that CP only goes for record breakers and quantity. They have several 1st class coasters. Examples: 1) Top Thrill Dragster 2) Millenium Force 3)Raptor 4)Mantis 5) Wicked Twister 6)Magnum XL200 7)Mean Streak 8)Cedar Creek Mine Ride 9)Wild Cat 10)Gemini. I would agree that they have some real clunkers too like Iron Dragon, Disaster Transport, Jr. Gemini, Woodstock Express, Corkscrew, and Blue Streak. Although, I cut them a little slack on Blue Streak and Corkscrew because of their age. When Corkscrew was built, it was one of the first coasters with three inversions. PKI has clunkers too...Adventure Express, Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster, Top Cat's Taxi Jam, Beastie.
  5. Didn't care for the first Tomb Raider movie, and unless they have really come up with a better plot for this one(which I have not heard), I will probably wait to rent that one. Still haven't rode TR:TR, so no comment there. And I agree that this Spy Kids 3D is probably stupid as well. Top Gun making a return to theaters? The only reason to do this would be to bolster popularity for the ride. You can see the ads now...Now that you've seen Top Gun, you can ride the movie at Paramount's King's Island. Yay (insert sarcasm here). Truly, I am sick of the movie themeing biz. Once you get out for say 10 years, nobody will even remember them.
  6. I think you missed the point of Karaoke. Yes, most of the people can't carry a tune, but it is meant for people to sing along with current songs and have a good time doing it. I don't think anyone is trying to launch a career from it. I would like to see it come back because families seem to enjoy watching eachother making fools of themselves and they have fun doing it. That's the whole point of going to PKI...to have fun...is it not?
  7. I really didn't mean just a regular change in the wheels. I was talking about something really different that was supposed to make a difference in the ride as well. I figured that it is something that wouldn't be mentioned if it was just a regular change in wheels. Like possibly a design change. Don't really know.
  8. I don't care if they sell beer there. And I don't really believe that it is any more controlled by limiting drinking areas either. I could easily slip someone a beer and never be noticed. I don't really notice a lot of employees taking notes of who's drinking and who's not. As has been stated before, how are the employees gonna remember one face from the other? I also would like to see someone get kicked out of line for smoking. If all they are gonna do is ask you to put it out, then there is no real consequence for smoking in line.
  9. I never liked the OTSR's either. I always found it very painful. It was also rumored that there was a change in the wheels as well. Is this correct? And if so, what kind of change?
  10. I was not aware that PKD's does not rotate. I had also heard earlier that there was supposed to be some kind of change to PKI's Drop Zone. I have yet to visit and have not been able to confirm this. Anyone know?
  11. I know that there was another Drop Zone built at PKD and I was wondering if this one is taller than the one at PKI? I'm referring to drop height. I was under the impression that the one at PKI is the tallest gyro drop in the world. Is this true?
  12. Actually, I rode the Enchanted Voyage as well in the early days. It did have the song "It's a small world" at least in part of the ride. I also remember that you went through this one part that was supposed to be scary. Anyway, if you looked beside you at a mirror, there appeared to be a ghost sitting next to you. It was a fav of mine, although it always seemed to have the line from hell because it was air conditioned. Does anyone remember that when the Bayern Curve reached maximum speed, a very loud horn used to sound off for a minute or two? Also a classic fav of mine was the Rotor. I loved the way the floor dropped out and kept you pinned against the wall. I also remember being terrified of The Racers. My mother used to have to bribe me with a couple of bucks to ride it. I also remember when The Beast opened. I wouldn't ride it either. Don't know what I was really scared of since you really couldn't see the ride itself. Must have been the name. Der spinnin keggers was an excellent one also. I remember that my uncle used to get it spinning before the ride even started and we were always the last ones off because we were still spinning. I did ride the skyline and still don't like those kinds of rides to this day. Something about that hanging feeling you get. I rode the Zodiac as well. Another terrifying ride that gave that hanging feeling that I really loathe. Screamin' Demon was the first coaster I ever rode that went upside down. Since it has moved to my hometown, I've only been able to ride it once. It's been down since then. Wish they could get it up and running again. It's a real shame what has happened to Camden Park. I had heard that at one time King's Island (before Paramount) had something to do with it. Someone told me recently that they still do. And if so, why won't they put any money in that one? I also think that the ACE organization needs to come through and help The Racer out. It's one of the oldest operating coasters in the world that has headlights and brakes that are worked by an employee. (not sure if the brakes are still the same, but I imagine it is).
  13. I agree that there will be no competition in that area. The big beef I have with CP is that you have to pay an additional fee to get into their water park. I'm surprised that the general public hasn't complained yet.
  14. You know, it is kind of a shame that they built SOB when they did. From what I understand, Intamin coasters has come out with a new track technology for wooden coasters that allow for a smoother ride. If you want, check out intaminworldwide.com. I'm not sure exaclty what is different and I believe they have only built one overseas.
  15. I guess that every ride I've had on SOB has been rough to a point. Sometimes, one ride has been rougher than the other, but I will never stop riding it unless it gets to the point where they need a full time nurse at the exit. I fully expected this ride to be rougher than The Beast, just due to sheer height. I don't really find myself getting beat up too badly except at the bottom of the 1st and 2nd helixes. In fact, aafter the first time I rode it, I thought that it was really no rougher than The Beast. I recall my first ride on The Beast back about late 70's or early 80's and when I exited, I needed an aspirin. But, I never thought in a million years that I would never consider riding it again. I still think it beats on you pretty good to this day.
  16. I rode the Bavarian Beetle (whoa, really giving away my age on that one) and it was one of my favorites at the time. The cars sat only 4 people. If you've ever been to CP, it is similar to the Wild Cat(if you go to the CP website, you can see a pic of it). Except, with the BB, it had a downward helix that went around 4 or 5 times while gathering speed. I heard that it was torn out because on this one hill, when it was raining, the cars couldn't clear it. Just what I heard. I also was fortunate enough to have ridden The Bat as well. That was a good ride as well. The Bat was taken out due to there were too many sharp turns which constantly cause the shocks overhead to wear out. Hope this helps out.
  17. Cool, thanks for the info.
  18. Since I am new here, I'm not sure if this has already come up yet. PKI announced this year that they are dropping out of the coaster race. Although I want to see new thrill rides as well, it seemed like it already took them enough time to decide on building a new coaster. Isn't this going to make the decision process longer concerning building a new one ? I think half of their problems stem from choosing the wrong companies to build them. Look at Face/Off and SOB. Although, SOB seems to work on a regular basis, F/O still has many problems and takes entirely too long to ride it.
  19. Sorry, got a little confused about what you were getting at. Anyway, I think that removing the building would ruin the experience. I like barely being able to see where I am going. Removing the themeing would not really hurt the experience, though. What about changing the video you watch while waiting? Now that I've seen it a bazillion times, I find it quite annoying. I also noticed last year that they removed the on-ride photo. Why? I have recently started collecting them and I really wanted one on that ride.
  20. This one burns me up as well. What people and the press fail to recognize is that PKI has become a major player in the Amusement Park biz and haven't been around half as long as most. I have also heard the claim every year that CP has the most and I know that SFMM has the same amount. But, it seems to me that CP has most of them working on a regular basis where SFMM seems to have a lot more break-downs. I could be wrong, though.
  21. I'm new here, so hello to all. I was fortunate enough to Ride TTD and even though it only lasts 15 seconds, it is one of the wildest rides I have ever been on. I went with a friend in June and when we were launched, he tried to scream and could not because it sucked the air out of him. I think CP is awesome, and I only rank it slightly higher than PKI. MF and Magnum XL200 are two of the best steel coasters in my opinion. I also love Raptor and one of my new favs is Wicked Twister. The place where I think PKI has the advantages are the kids' area and wooden coasters. CP does not impress me with Mean Streak. But, I think Beast and SOB completely kicks its butt. I agree that CP does have the better variety. Hopefully, something will be done about this next season.
  22. I am new to this board, so hello to all. I disagree that the themeing on FOF should be taken out. I would rather see the themeing taken care of then removed. Although, if the themeing is going to wind up like Top Gun's, then maybe they should. I also don't agree that the building should be removed either. Half of the fun of that ride is that it is indoors. That's my .02.
