I wasn't trying to bash the ride...300 ft tall swing will be quite intimidating to a lot of people...I just can't grasp the price tag for this thing...there is nothing to it...site work will fly by as will construction of it...but in the end...I am glad to see a new flat ride...the park needs many more to fill in and add some variety to the park.
-
Interesting addition...but $5 million for a giant swing?!?!?! Come on...talk about not spending money wisely.

The old trains looked nice, but had to be the most uncomfortable trains I have ever experienced. Was just no leg room at all in those trains.

I will find it disappointing if Cedar Fair keeps all the best rides at Cedar Point and not put in any at the other parks just because that is the flagship. Why should any of the other parks not get some over the top ride? I expected more from this announcement just like I expected more from the Diamondback announcement. The future will tell, will just be a slow wait. -
And sadly Terp, no one cares about old records like some others do.

Isn't that a classic case of counting your chickens before they hatch, or judging a book by its cover? They said they were going to decide what to do in the offseason. No one's said it's going to be removed. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? Who knows? My personal guess is that it would be much more inexpensive to do extensive overhauling of the ride rather than tearing it down and trying to find another capital investment to put in its place. I second that. It's gonna be a long rest of the year in this thread.

Well using the economy as an excuse I don't go for. How many Cedar Fair parks are building new rides for 2010? It costs money to make money and they are making it. Alot of debt yes, but don't we all? They could probably get Sonny to an acceptable ride level for the same cost as having it removed, or not much more. I'm sure with today's technology, a good company could go over the current design and probably make very few changes to make Sonny a good ride. Heck, just the right trains may be the answer, who knows. Fun thing is, we have all winter to speculate now!!
-
I just think if they have made up there minds, that since the season is coming to an end and they are going to keep it closed, then just say so. Real simple, This attraction is closed for the season. Then we can move on to speculating on what the future holds..lol.

Well that's why I bring it up, noone knows if Firehawk caused the man's death or not, just like with the woman. Haven't heard any info on whether they determined if Son caused her problem or not either. So why treat the two rides so different? Both rides investigated, even though Firehawk was much more quicker and we heard nothing but excuses on why so long for Sonny, both were cleared, Son gets to sit and collect dust, Firehawk is fired up as soon as possible, just find this very interesting.

So I had made a post about this in the Firehawk thread about the incident, but I realize it belongs in here because I want to discuss Sonny. Firehawk has a similar incident, gets shut down, on a saturday, gets inspected on a sunday morning, and reopens a few hours into the day, all of this is within a 24hr time period, and yet Son just sits there being neglected? Since June? Just seems really messed up to me. You know the original thread about this was called, Son of Beast down for the season, am really starting to believe the person who said it hit it right on the money, and yet noone knows why...well, someone knows, just not us.

See now I disagree with that, even though that is how most places feel. We are the people who keep these places open with our hard earned money, so yeah, I think they do owe us something here. Without us and our money, the parks are gone and all those people who think they didn't owe us anything are now unemployed and getting a real eye opener.

That would be like entirely rebuilding SOB. I think there need to just add steel track. Why would you add steel track? You would have to pre-fabricate it all off site. I see steel supports being added to the wooden supports to make them stronger. And that I don't understand why they didn't do instead of removing the loop.

Rough or not, I am just impressed with the fact they had the balls to build such a monster. We all knew a woodie that big was gonna be a rough mother, all woodies are to an extent, then make one that goes that fast? It had to be expected. But regardless, we all get on it and endure the ride. For me, it was the loop. Didn't matter how rough it was, I wanted to go through that loop on a woodie, was just so awesome in my mind. Yes i could do without the rosebowl, the one on The Beast is rough enough, the Son is just too fast for that kind of element. This year was my first year back since the "remodel", and naturally it gets closed, so I have no idea what it is like now, heck I'm not even positive how the track is where the loop was...Now I do think them buying those used trains from the Pavilion was a big mistake, just a bad band-aid. They should experiment more with different trains I think. As far as this woman who filed this complaint, I think they knew how easy it would be to say hey, that coaster did this to me, and I think there will more like her down the road. Poor Sonny has a bad rep, so people are going to find ways to cash in on it. Most people know how woodies are, and anyone who comes to the park and looks at that monster knows it is not going a very smooth ride.

Ok those maps are freaky...whenever scrolling through it there is definite time changes...one minute the lake is there..the next is where they drained it at the start of Diamondback construction...then got over by FOF and Firehawk wasn't even there yet and all the King Cobra track is laid out in the junkyard..weird indeed.

When I went last month, I had planned on taking a ton of pictures, but it came down to I didn't want to mess with the hassle of dealing with a camera all day on the rides, and the lockers there are quite expensive, so. I will remember on future vacations to make sure I have cargo shorts that have zippers on the pockets just for that purpose though.
