  1. Amen to that fyrfyter! It would be awesome if PKI took a break from rides next year and just spruced up the park.
  2. This is all very good news. I might even have to buy a Flight of Fear on-ride photo now. Now that some major work is being done, lets hope for a good scrub-down of the entire queue.
  3. StXBomber, every little bit would help. Where would I send an e-mail concerning the condition of Flight of Fear, and other rides around the park?
  4. Hey StXBomber, Is there any chance of the Flight of Fear being cleaned up any time soon? ( i.e. MAJOR dusting ) I was amazed at how incredibly dirty the hanger is, and wondered if a cleaning was in order. With talk of Flight of Fear getting some new themeing, I wasn't expecting an inch of dust covering the flying saucer
  5. Thanks. I plan on going back on Saturday April 19th, so I'm hoping the park won't be throwing as many temper tantrums as it was on Pass Preview night.
  6. On April 11th, I got my Gold Season Pass processed. When I ordered the pass, I did NOT order a parking pass. Once my season pass had been printed out, I noticed that it said "PARKING" on it. I looked at other Gold Season Passes that had been passed around, and some of them didn't have "PARKING" on them. Does this mean that I get free parking, or that I am allowed in the Gold Pass parking area?
  7. I went as well last night ( Friday, April 11th ) and had a horrible time. Pass processing was probably the best part of the night. The metal detecters weren't bad at all and processing was quick and painless. Of course, the rest of the night was beyond comparison to any other trip I've had to PKI. In the five hours that my friend and I were there, we got in two rides. Beast and Flight of Fear. We waited in line for Tomb Raider: The Ride for about 15 minutes, but then we waited another 45 because it was broken down. I was looking around the line, and there is actually less themeing than what was there last year. The diamond in the wall as you enter the tomb was removed, and the lights that usually shine on it weren't working. Many of the "ruins" have been picked at by the General Public, and are now showing their foam interior. In the giant Budah room, several chains and other peices of scenery have been removed. Didn't get to ride the ride, so I don't know what it's like inside now. We eventually left the queue, and went to Beast. At the time we rode, about 6:30, it was running all three trains. I've been pretty much habituated to Beast, and it wasn't very exicting at all. In the queue, the "Front of Train" line has been cut off with a new barrier. Anyone know why? After Beast we headed to La Rosas for some pizza, but the line was extremely long, so we went over to Vortex. It was broken down and people were being evacuated from the lift hill. I would have LOVED to do that, but I was too late. Flight of Fear, our last ride of the evening, was next. We had a two hour wait and just as we got on the ride, it broke down. The ride ops had to push the train forward about 5 feet into the station, I guess to align the LIMS or something, because they had tried to launch it three times in a row, and nothing happened. FOF was pretty good, and I thank God they removed the OTSR. It was very fast and very intesne. As far as new themeing, there wasn't any I saw. The "hanger" was EXTREMELY dirty and a thick layer of dust covered everything. Cups and other trash were thrown on top of the flying saucer, not to mention that it seemed like everyone in line felt the need to peel paint from anything they could get their hands on. Something really needs to be done with Flight of Fear's queue. Coney Mall was really crowded and Racer and Adventure Express had very long lines. Bubba Gumps was not open, but looks like it will be good. We went to Festhaus to eat, and waited in line there as well. I can't believe how expensive food is now at PKI. I know that they aren't a charity and have to make money, but $11 for pizza and fries is too mcuh in my opinion. Heck, barbeque packets are $.71 each! I think I'll start eating out of the park now to save money. Overall, the park was very crowded, capacity was horrible, and I thought it was much dirtier than I have ever seen it. The new fountains are nice, but the lights weren't on and I never saw the sequence change, it was just all the fountains on. I think PKI should have taken an extra week or two to get things working and clean. Hopefully, the park will be ready next weekend.
  8. Let's see...The web site says that there are approx. 5000 seasonal employees, and according to BeastFreak, each employee was given 4 tickets, which ends up coming to around 20,000 non-season pass holders alone. Plus regular season pass holders and contest winners, Paramount's Kings Island could be pretty busy on April 11th. ( ::Sigh:: I SURE hope not though. ) What is "maximum guest capacity" for PKI? Or how many guests does the park usually bring in on mid-summer day?
  9. Ugghhh...I hoping to be able to ride mostly everything on Pass Preview night, but it seems like it keeps getting harder and harder. I guess I'll have to wait one more week before I can get everything in on one visit. If they did this kind of thing last year, ( giving a lot of tickets to non-season pass holders ) how long were the lines ( time ) ?
  10. Not just Arrow, but the people that brought us Tomb Raider: The Ride, Delerium, and several other rides at Paramount's Kings Island. At one time, HUSS owned Arrow Dynamics ( Throughout time A.K.A: Arrow Development - Arrow HUSS - Arrow Dynamics - Arrow - S&S Arrow ) Its nice to have so many HUSS rides at PKI, but I'd like to see a few more Arrow's too. They are my favorite coaster company, and a brand new hyper or 4th Dimension would be a great addition if Kings Island plans on adding a new coaster any time soon.
  11. Hah! I live near Miami Trace! I was orignally going to take the ACT there on April 12th as well, but I have a 30 Hour Famine that I'm going to instead. I've got about 10 more chances to take the ACT, and I think a money-raiser for starving children is more important. Plus, I'm going to PKI on the 11th anyway, so all is well!
  12. Is it possible to ride almost everything ( ALL coasters, Delerium, Tomb Raider: The Ride, Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle, etc. ) on Pass Preview Night ( April 11th )? I originally had planned on going to the park on opening day ( April 12 ) but that fell through, so I'm going on the 11th. I've never been to a Preview Night before, and I don't know how croweded it will be. I went to PKI on a Friday in April a few years ago, and the park was empty. In five hours, we had done almost everything. Is this possible on Pass Preview Night?
  13. IE: Vortex. There's not one trip to Paramount's Kings Island where I go and someone doesn't cut in line.
  14. Does anyone know why the water around The Beast was allowed to drain out? I don't remember what year they decided to let the water drain, but it was a while ago.
  15. Those were the original trim brakes, not boosters.
  16. Teenageninja, how is what I said a lie? I said that there was an accident where two trains collided in the station becuase the skid brakes couldn't stop the in-coming train due to the wet weather. I never said that it was a serious accident, and I never gave any specific details becuase I was not sure about them. Plus, I didn't say it was down for very long either. I'm also about 99 percent sure that The Beast did in fact run without trim brakes for a short period of time. There was a thread about it somewhere on CoasterBuzz, but I can't seem to find it. I'll do a little searching and post back later. NOTE: I'm not fighting with teenageninja, I'm just clearing up our conversation. This is one reason why I don't like "talking" through the internet, because people can take things the wrong way, since you aren't actually "hearing" the person talk. Just wanted to clear that up in case anyone thought I was trying to make trouble.
  17. At one point, The Beast did run brakeless. After the accident where two trains collided, there was a short period of time when there were no trim brakes on the ride, because the park was in the process of changing the skid brakes into magnetic brakes, so that the ride could run in the rain. I think that was the only reason why, but I'm not sure. I'm not quite sure, but I don't think there were mid-course brakes either. As far as the banking of the track being changed, I know that parts of the track had to be modified so that it could accomodate the new brake fins, but I don't know if it was modified any more than that.
  18. FoF: With a good crew, I wouldn't think that stacking would be a problem.
  19. Thanks for the information. Doesn't Son of Beast have at least four blocks though? I'm not quite sure how to describe blocks, so I'll do my best: BLOCK 1: Station to top of lift BLOCK 2: Top of Lift to Block Brakes BLOCK 3: Block Brakes to Final Brakes ( Which can stop the train if there is one in the station ) BLOCK 4: Final Brakes to Station
  20. I've never actually heard the true story behind Son of Beast concerning construction and other aspects of the ride, so I'm hoping that someone on this site can answer some questions for me. Thanks for the help. 1. What really happened with the company that constructed Son of Beast? I've heard many different stories, including that Paramount's Kings Island went over budget and couldn't pay the company to finish the ride, and another says that the company itself was cutting corners and PKI wasn't going to take any chances with their new ride, so they took over and sued the company. 2. What part of SOB collapsed during construction, if any part collapsed at all, and at what point of construction did this happen? 3. Is it true that one reason Son of Beast was delayed is because it was struck by lightning and the entire computer system had to be re-done? Was SOB ever struck by lightning? 4. Why can't/doesn't Son of Beast run three trains? I've heard many stories that the SOB's computers have yet to be fixed since ( supposedly ) they were struck by lightning. Does a third train even exist?
  21. King Cobra trains in Flight of Fear? Hmmmm.... I was wondering, will Son of Beast ever run three trains?
  22. Paramount Story is probably the one thing at Paramount's Kings Island that I would LIKE to see leave. It would be a nice piece of land for a new flat ride, or even a special area for guests to learn about PKI history.
  23. B&M has yet to make a giga coaster ( One that is over 300ft. tall ) but they are able to. From what I have read at other sites, Cedar Point considered many coaster companies to build Millennium Force, including B&M. Due to the space constraints that was placed on their new coaster for 2000, Cedar Point decided to go with Intamin, since they could provide the huge lifthill on a small footprint. Granted, this is information that I have gathered from message boards, so it may not all be true.
  24. I don't think Paramount's Kings Island needs a new section since they can do so much with the sections that they already have. In my opinion, the themed areas PKI has now should be spruced up before a new one is built. Each section has it's own unique theme, but there could be so much more done with Action Zone, Coney Mall, Rivertown, Hanna Barberra Land, and especially Oktoberfest. I also think it would be nice if there were more definite transitions between the different zones. The way Action Zone just sort of "flows" into Oktoberfest really annoyes me. This is also the case with Coney Mall into Rivertown, and Rivertown into Hanna Barberra Land.
