  1. I don't remember if this was common in previous years but, the 2019 calendar shows that the park is closed weekdays from Aug 19-Aug 29 (maybe private events??). I always thought the park continued with full operations until Labor Day at which point they would close for 2 weeks to prep for Haunt. The waterpark, on the other hand, has, I believe, been closed on weekdays in the 2 weeks preceding Labor Day for several years now.

  2. Wow! That rendering makes me so happy. Glad to see water features and bridges. As long as there is LOTS of trees and shrubbery, I will consider this a 2/10 attraction. (Will be upgraded to 10/10 when KI and CF come to their senses and give us back our eagles...)

But seriously, great decision by KI!

Only 2 quips I have: One: I wish it were longer than 1/4 of a mile. Two: Coney Mall is going to be VERY cramped back by Vortex and WindSeeker

Diamondback has the best layout of all the hypers ever made- it uses the terrain to its advantage and has that splashdown ending. A lot of those coasters that are in the top 10 for steel and wood incorporate terrain in some type of way.

Imagine for a moment how great it could have been if it truly "slithered through the woods of Rivertown" as its promotional tagline claimed... rather than the meadows it currently sits on

  4. Quick question here: I know that the FLP perk is exclusive to the park where you purchase a new PP but are the free visits for the rest of the year exclusively at that park or can you use them at any of the parks that were offering free 2018 visits with new PP purchase?

If they wanted to make a point, they would issue a statement saying Andy Murray has been permanently banned from CF parks for his apparent disregard to rules and safety of others and reiterate that all guests are subject to such ban...

Wish I could like this 1,000 times. What better way to set an example than to use a high profile jagoff to make a point.

  6. CP might want to consider banning hot sauce packets or patrons from entering the queue line....

    From the Sandusky Register:

Police arrested an Amherst boy Saturday after he allegedly threw a packet of hot sauce at a Steel Vengeance train at Cedar Point, which apparently exploded and hit some people in the face and eyes.

The 17-year-old boy was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

A Sandusky officer responded to a call from Cedar Point police at about 4:20 p.m. about riders being hit by hot sauce, according to a Sandusky police report.

  7. Late to the party here, but I think multiple factors played into the removal of KD's Tornado.

1st: It's placement in the very front of Soak City. It's right along the pathway that connects SC to the park which (IMO) makes for an odd and less than desirable visual appeal.

2nd: Doesn't have a raft lift. Rafts must be carried up the slide tower by the guest unlike KI's which has a lift.

3rd: The accident last summer. The severity of the accident didn't help but falling out of the rafts seems to be a common problem across many installations of this slide model. The nearly vertical oscillations along with the bumps from opposite water flows at the bottom of the funnel make it very easy to fall out of the raft and bash your head on the slide if you don't firmly grasp the handles or if you lean backwards.

From what I've understood, the supports near the midway are there for that pop of color, but the supports that are the tanish color are there to semi-blend in with the area around them.

Lol.  I might buy that if they didn't clear-cut & deforest the entire area into a meadow... -_-

  9. Criminal charges have been filed against Schlitterbahn & their Director of Park Operations.

The former operations director for Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City, Kansas, and the water park itself have been charged with manslaughter in the 2016 death of a 10-year-old boy on a water slide.... In addition.... both were indicted on multiple counts of aggravated battery and aggravated endangering a child (and)... interference with law enforcement.

The fact that criminal charges are being brought is stunning. Many amusement park accidents only result in civil settlements & fines from the governmental agency overseeing amusement parks in their state. There must be some seriously darning evidence to lead to these charges being filed.

  10. Big things are definitely on the horizon.

California's Great America has announced in their blog posts (see links) that Peanuts Playhouse TheaterHMB Endeavor & Snoopy's Splash Dance will all be removed before this season begins.

I imagine based on their proximity to each other and Boomerang Bay that this will be a waterpark expansion. I am guessing the expansion would include: a larger more defined entrance to help delineate the waterpark from CGA, new slides (probably similar to the set KI got a few years ago), and a new unique name/theme like Carowinds & CP.

No thanks. They had to suffer through decades of Mean Streak to eventually get SV. KI already suffered long enough with SoB... let's not compound that pain.

Flight Deck, the current invert, is probably the worst coaster I've been on.  They don't currently have a Wing coaster.  Time Warp, another bad coaster, is a flying coaster not a wing.

IMO, Wonderland should demolish Flight Deck & Time Warp and use the combined space to make an excellent B&M invert.

The permit is to put a ride tunnel and 9 support piers in the lake around Vortex...

Ooooh!  That would be an epic place for a wing coaster. Interactions with the water & the backside of Wonder Mountain would be most impressive.

Seriously though, I cannot believe how Wonderland's flat collection is outstanding but their coaster lineup drops off real quick. After Leviathan & Behemoth, there really is no other good coaster...

  13. The short-lived prohibition of rash guards was quite odd. For several years prior, I had worn rash guards to protect against awful fiberglass cuts at many a waterpark, including KI SC, Wildwater Kingdom, HW, KK, CP SC, with not so much as a second-glance from any employee.

As for my experiences at SC, it was ok but not impressive except for Pipeline Paradise (artificial surfing) and Tidal Wave Bay. The rest of the waterpark... meh. Breaker's Bay looked awful, the lack of trees/natural shade with slabs of concrete was an awful/painful combination, and Splash River was pitiful.

I would not go back to SC if KK or HW added an artificial surfing ride.

  14. Interesting that bleach does not kill it and requires hydrogen peroxide. Did not know that. I don't think HP is commonly used in pools so that seems to explain why it became such a problem. My wife also told me it is an out door pool issue and not an indoor one, though I am not sure why.

Most aquatic facilities use Sodium Hypochlorite ("bleach") or Calcium Hypochlorite as their sanitizing agent/disinfectant. The health dept requires a minimum of 1ppm. Many facilities keep a residual level of 2-5ppm.

Cryptosporidium is most commonly found/introduced via liquid stools in a pool. Crypto is highly resistant but not completely immune to disinfectant.

Indoor versus outdoor facility plays no difference in the chance of the facility becoming contaminated with Crypto.

When a liquid stool has been discovered, a pool will be closed and hyper-sanitized in order to bring the sanitizer level up high enough to de-activate Crypto in a reasonable timeframe. The CDC uses a CT (Contact-Time) Inactivation Value to determine the length of closure. The CT for Crypto (assuming no stabilizers have been added) is 15,300. Thus, Disinfectant level * Time = 15,300. So an operator can change the pool closure length due to Crypto by adjusting the concentration of disinfectant, ie to open the pool quicker, a higher disinfectant level is required. For example, a pool with 20ppm disinfectant requires 12.75 hours of time to inactivate Crypto while a pool with only 10ppm requires 25.5 hours to inactivate Crypto.

    Edit:

This poster assumes that the water in question is properly balanced in regards to hardness, alkalinity, TDS, stabilizer, and pH.
