I know this isnt Really PKI related but I know a lot of you Like Weird Al But his Parents were found Dead in there home due to Carbon monoxide poisoning just wanted to let you all know the sad news very sad
How very sad! I had an 'up close and personal' incident with Weird Al about 20 years ago at one of Indianapolis' greatest clubs: Picadilly's. NO...it wasn't that kind of up close and personal
, but rather of the 'mundane' kind.
He was performing at Picadilly's and left the stage to go into the crowd. Hundreds of us were standing on chairs hootin' and hollerin' and havin' a good ol' time. All of a sudden, the spotlight was on me and I couldn't figure out why! It was because Weird Al was by my side singing his version of Madonna's 'Like a Virgin!'
Funny...but maybe you had to be there to appreciate the comedy of the moment.
Very said to hear about his parents.....very sad indeed.

At 7:15 Face/Off Mis-caught and got stuck on the way to the loop, the thing about it is i was on there when it happend, people screamin, maintenince rushing to Face/Off. I was quiet during the unloading prossess, but that doesnt matter, i heard the **** ride rumble and the felt the car shake like it was gonna fall off
Whoa! Tell me more about that....seems I'm *always* around when something goes wrong with a ride. Happened to us last year on Sneak peak night at Face/Off...
...train is pulled up the lift, brakes let go, train flies by the station, goes through its elements and then does it all backwards again.
Only THIS TIME, the train made a horrendous BANG!POP!SNAP! noise as it went backwards up the lift on the return trip home and was stuck there til it was fixed. Park closed at 10:00 that night. We were still in line for the ride at 11:00 (that's the great thing about PKI...they'll let you wait it out instead of turning you away---most of the time, anyway).
The noise was scary and deafening. But not nearly as frightening as the Top Gun scare a couple of seasons ago.

Ooh.. reminds me of my first SOB nightride. There was a spooky mist around the middle of the coaster, and I think I grabbed my night ride just as the fireworks went off. After I went down the lift hill, I could barely see a thing. Both coasters are an entirely different experience in the dark. To be honest, The Beast should stay totally dark for thrill factor. Who's up for starting a petition to turn the lights off?
~S~
I've been on nightrides on SoB where it was totally, totally dark on the back helix....you could NOT see the track in front of you---or anything else for that matter! Since then, I've noticed light pollution around the track -- YUK!
I can remember TOTAL darkness on The Beast.
And Flight of Fear.
What the heck are you doing, PKI???? Get your act to-ge-tha!
-
Haha ok ok I'll stay! The only problem I've had before is that my parents don't really feel like driving 25min at 10pm. But I'll tell them that they have to this time.
That's it...I'm calling the Waaaaaaambulance!
I drive 2 and a half hours THERE and 2 and a half hours BACK!!!!!!
(I'm jealous!
)

I've never been to PKI at night. Crazy as it sounds, I always finish everything I want to early on and then just want to leave. Which brings me to this... do you think it's worth staying the extra time to ride The Beast at night?
Wow...I can't believe somebody actually asked that question.
In response, a definitive "YES," no...make that an enthusiastic YES!!
You ain't lived til you've had a night ride on The Beast. And leave while the park is still open?!?!?
Shame on you!!

http://maxpages.com/frequencies/Amusement_Park_freqs
i was searching for amusement park laws in indiana and i came accross this site. it tells all the parks frequencies. what's that about? at first i thought radio frequencies but really i have no idea what this site is talking about. anyone know?
(PKI is about 3/4 of the way down)
Perusing Indiana amusement park laws, eh? Fellow Hoosier?

This is what PKI needs! Only twice the size....
HYPERSONIC XLC™
The Xtreme Launch Coaster. The thrill ride of the new millennium! HyperSonic XLC is the only compressed-air launch coaster in the country. 0 - 80 mph in just 1.8 seconds.

PKD has one why can't we?!?!?! -adam12
Believe me, you don't want another Hypersonic Wait You'll See!
The capacity is the bottom of the barrel....Can you say 8 people per circuit?????
Yes, that's right. EIGHT PEOPLE!
Can you say more downtime than a broken Otis Elevator?
Can you say WAITS that border on the ridiculous?
And lastly, 17 seconds people! Waiting 3+ hours for 17 seconds is, uh....well...I WON'T DO IT AGAIN.
On the other hand, waiting 3 hours for an 18 second TTD ride is a much different story~~~I've done it and will do it again! Don't compare apples to oranges....Hypersonic and TTD are two different animals. Sure, the 'elements' are similar and I believe inch for inch, HXLC goes faster than TTD. But that launch and the height on TTD just can't be duplicated.
Hypersonic Wait You'll See is/was a fun ride. But not for the wait. Not for me.
Has capacity issues and downtime issues to this day.
UGH!

Ahh...unless you want to have your Mini Cooper doing corkscrews and other inversions, don't count on Flight of Fear being re-themed. In my opinion, it has the best theming of any coaster in the park (Top Gun would have had this spot if the extended queue was still open).
King's Island has TONS of space "out back" for a coaster, why not use it?
Plus, I would most certainly miss phrases such as, "I feel like a hard drive that was just reformatted!" "WHAT THE BLAZES WAS THAT?!" "PLEEEEEZE....Dick!!" "How the sam hell do they know what kinda connectors we use?"
I'm with you, fryler87; I like the FoF Q vid. No, I'll go even further than that: I love that video! I like it when she pronounces his name sarcastically when the Boob tells her she can call him "Dick." She says "Dick" alright....enunciating the "iiiiiiiiiick" part! Love it!
I want to buy that video!! PKI...is it available??
The theming on this ride is superb, right up to the loading station where the 'empty train' pulls up to fetch the waiting patrons, leaving the impression that the former riders were mysteriously abducted!
Very clever theming....when it first opened up, it took me a few times through the Q to realize that the wall was a giant mirror and merely gave the illusion of a huge spacecraft.
You can almost smell testosterone throughout that ride, up to and including the uh, um, SHAPES of the objects in the loading area.

UM, why isnt Britney Spears allowed back?
A poster here (an insider at the park) said she was an absolute BE-OTCH to work with.
I find that hard to believe since she SEEMS like such a sweet southern kind of gal.
Ah, but even MommaBeast has her days!!!
I'd like to hear more about the Britney incident from those that were THERE, not from someone's boyfriend's step-aunt's sister who delivered Evian to Britney's trailer.
Any juicy tidbits anyone?

I have another, somewhat related question to anyone on this year's Beast crew. Have the restaints been changed on the Eagles? Some of the employees were telling me that the park was considering new belts there, too. From what they were told, the belts would have to be locked/unlocked by the ride op for each cycle.
That's all the stupid questions I have for now, I'll find out for sure next Saturday.....
Tame the Flyers?? Banish the thought!
IS THE JURY STILL OUT ON THIS?

Heh, I'll just be sticking to operating PKI Unlimited.com... that's enough of a job, plus, 2 hours is still a long haul if I was to work at PKI, and I don't think I'd want to be putting those miles on my car.
And yes, Sparky AKA 'the other Aaron' is a great guy, and I'm lucky to have him part of the PKIU team.
What a great testament to Paramount Kings Island that so many 'outsiders' support their great park!
Running (masterfully, I might add) a PKI website from Indianapolis that not only is top-notch, but boasts a pretty good membership base as well sure puts a feather in PKI's cap.
I am impressed.
And about those miles....I put a few hundred (over 1,000 I'm sure) on mine last year
just going back and forth from Indy to PKI. You *DO* go to PKI to ride the rides and have fun, don't you?
Maybe I'll bump into you there...or perhaps meandering somewhere in Downtown Indy.
The Hard Rock Cafe sure was bouncing today---the weather was beautiful and people were out in droves.
-
Heh, I'm the 'Aaron' the drives PKI Unlimited.com!
Sparky AKA AZ Kinda Guy AKA Head PKIU Forum Moderator AKA Aaron is the one who drove Delirium last season (he's at Drop Zone this year).
Gotcha!
Thanks for the clarification....A-A-R-O-N-Who-Drives-PKIU.com!!
'Aarons' are pretty cool guys...my nephew's name is Aaron, too...not that that means anything to you, but....
I've met the other Aaron --the Delirium AARON-- and he is the nicest person you'd ever want to meet.
I'll have to make a mental note that he is AZ Kinda Guy.
And would I, by chance, find you operating a ride at PKI? Or just operating this wonderful, no-expenses-spared, complete-with-all-the-toots-and-whistles-a-forum- could-have website?? Whew!
-
I see you're a COLTS and PACERS fan...I'm in Indianapolis....are we neighbors per chance???
Heh, one common misconception about myself is that I live in Cincinnati, but in reality, I also live in Indianapolis! Well... Carmel, close enough.
Oh my gosh! A 'CARMEL-ITE!'
Southsider here...going on 43 years now. HOWDY NEIGHBOR!!!!
Are you the 'Aaron' who 'drives' Delirium or am I confusing you with someone else?

Skipper and Dolly!! Wow I had forgotten their names. Always wanted to get picked in that show, never did and my parents would never sit down close enough to get wet
I miss the old enchanted voyage - before they ruined it with those god-awful Smurfs!
There was a kiddie ride in HBland where you sat in little cars that whipped you around the ends of a small loop - what was the name of that? It's a wonder all us kids from that generation didn't get brain damage on that thing.
Anyone else remember the canoe rides? Or when there were "real" indians that attacked the train?
I miss the toy store on International Street that always had the hugest stuffed animal in the world in the window (back before everything in the park had to have a logo of some kind or another on it)
How about that old theater that looked like a giant balloon - there was some type of kids show inside - I vaguely remember puppets......
For some reason, I never forgot Skipper and Dolly...and I was one of those kids who *NEVER* got picked, either....bummed to the max! Probably why I'm in therapy today. J/K!
It's funny how I retained the names of the dolphins from years and years ago yet I 'lost' my car in a parking garage today. LOL
Go figure...
Oh well......
The Enchanted Voyage WAS THE BOMB! I can only remember tiny snippets from that particular era, but the EV stands out for sure. And I agree with you about the Smurfs....aaaarrrrrggggh! To each his own...some folks like the little blue things, I just ain't one of 'em!
I also remember the interactive TRAIN adventures! Now those were fun...seems like it would be of little expense to PKI to bring that back to life. Why they've chosen not to after all these years remains a mystery.
I love how each of us are bringing our own memories to this thread. Ala Martha, 'IT'S A GOOD THING!'
Thanks to *EVERYONE* who's contributed to this thread! Please keep the memories alive....

I have some old picture's from the 1990's, if you wont to to see them, email, IM, PM, or just tell me here, and I will send them to you.

I see you're a COLTS and PACERS fan...I'm in Indianapolis....are we neighbors per chance???
And in answer to your question, I'd LOVE to see the pics you have ... what do you need? My email addy is below.
THANKS and I look forward to hearing from you!

Momma - Do you absoutely have to make everyone so emotional all the time...
Haahaaahaaaa, friend! No, I don't HAVE to, but it sure seems to work out that way!!
I was literally *stuck* for an aimless hour reminiscing as I looked at the old pix provided by some of the posters here. Brought back a rush of old feelings.
And I agree with what you said....I think it's much better when the RIDES are non-intrusive with their SURROUNDINGS, i.e., landscaping/trees/flowers/bushes.
*sniff-sniff*
More pix! More pix! I need to see some more old photos.....
-
Gotta keep this post going! It is soooo interesting! -adam12
adam12 --- yes, this *IS* interesting!
Did you notice how LUSH and GREEN the park used to be? Look at all the trees! Notice the lack of cement/pavement/blacktop. Unbelievable, isn't it? Gazillions of flowers, too.
Wow...I miss the old Kings Island....
-
Heres the link with all the pictures on it,
http://home.fuse.net/brock/KI1981.html
Did you notice the blacktop wasn't so black? It was painted red! That is so cool, that is what use to make Kings Island so interesting. I doubt paramount would ever do that. -adam12
Ooooh!!!! I LOVE these old pics of Kings Island.
MORE! MORE! MORE!
Please folks...if you have pics of the OLD K.I., pretty please with sugar on top could you share them with the rest of us?
That would be soooo cool!

Wow momma...6 big posts in row...Your gonna blow a circuit...
"...Six big posts in a row?...."
You call THAT big?
Now THAT'S funny!
Btw, there's a name for it. It's called 'REPLYING.'
Oh, and don't concern yourself with my circuits. They're doing just fine, thanks.
LOL

And, the Zodiac, man what a ride! I was terrified of riding that one.
Yes - I'd have to agree with Homey on that one - I had a really evil friend who would get us spinning like Wanda's Cauldron's-- except that on the Zodiac you hung by a chain and you were what 90-100 feet up? - and then my former friend would grab the center wheel to get the chain to bunch up and then snap drop down again - almost like snapping the Flyers - yeah that was a white knuckler when you got spinning on that thing...
Where'd that Zodiac go? thought I saw a picture of it in an Alvey video one time...
Are there any pictures available of Zodiac and Flight Commander?
Why is it there?

Awwww.....such *SWEET* memories that sign has brought back!
That "Come On and Get Happy" was KI's slogan back then...I can remember the jingle, tune, and everything:
"Kings Island, Come on and get happy, Kings Island, Come on and get happy...." With their commercials, this line played over and over and eventually faded into a whisper as the commercial ended.
Oh I remember that so well!
