Robbie Knievel To Jump At SFStL, The Legend Continues

Recommended Posts

Actually, to some extent it is.

When the KI jump was first announced, there was a lot of patter, even on this site, that it was to be his last record breaking jump. Many of us truly doubted that at the time...This is not the first major jump since the KI one, either...he's already jumped at the Texas Speedway...

Yeah Interpreter, that is what I was alluding to! I was one of those who felt sure that the Kings Island jump, if a record was even going to be set, would not be his last major jump. When there was talk that the KI jump would be his last I doubted it, after the Texas Speedway jump went well I figured he would be into jumping for another few years. When you are as passionate about things as he is, you don't just give them up easily.

His jump at SFSTL seemed destined to happen given the circumstances of the new ride being unveiled.

I still wonder if we may see Wallenda walk at another park, given the whole Knievel thing. lol. (And, Let me be very clear, I sincerely hope Wallenda CAN walk at another park, this was not a lame attempt at a pun)

I truly worry what will happen if one of these stunts in a park, ANY park, goes badly...as in VERY badly. It could take years to recover from the associated bad publicity, not to mention probable lawsuits by those who were emotionally anguished at watching a human being topple to his/her death in a place normally associated with amusement and frivolity. Hopefully, it will not come to this. But in the past, such things have happened...and times were very different back then.

And to add to what you have said, the number one reason I heard on the day of Knievel's jump for people leaving early around 6PM, was it keeps the kids from witnessing the jump, and its possible unintended effects. Many persons who I know that were at the park with kids, were there for the Clown Band, other 70's era fan fare, and left before the jump to keep their kids from seeing what could have been distastrous. Now whether I agree with censoring in that manner is another forum completely, but it is something that was in the minds of very many people on that day!

Then where is Ohio? I've always wondered that.... It seems like there are a lot of different opinions depnding upon where the speaker happens to be from.....

I've never heard Ohio referred to anything but the Midwest.

It's certainly not an Eastern State and it sure ain't a Southern state.

I don't know..... Years ago, my wife and I took a trip to Atlanta and then stopped by my old home town of Union, Ohio on the way back. Even she noticed that the people in Union had more of a drawl than most of those in Atlanta. :)

That's because most folk are not from Atlanta that live here.

The metro area is 5 million people and they expect it to be 8 million in 10 to 15 years.

It's rare that you actually meet someone that was born and raised in or around Atlanta.

Not to change the subject, but did anyone else notice that the article claimed that Six Flags St. Louis is the only park in the Midwest that offers its waterpark free with theme park admission?

The key must be the"15 acre" water park. Hurricane Harbor at Six Flags Great America is Free and in the Midwest too.

And most of the kids I grew up with in Union had parents who were from Kentucky and Tennessee and moved to Ohio to work at GM or NCR in Dayton. You always knew that your girlfriend's father liked you when you were invited to come "down home" with their family for a weekend.......

I have a degree in History, and I find it very ironic that the city that was once burned by General Sherman has become less "Southern" than a part of the State where Sherman himself was born....... Life and history are funny that way.......

It's actually the most International city (in the States) outside of New York that I've been to. You can find populations from many other countries. The kick in in the butt is that everyone gets along very well.
