Geauga Lake Hotel to become "Children's Residential Facility"?

Recommended Posts

....

Carrington is seeking a CZC to allow a children's residential center to locate in the abandoned Geauga Lake Hotel.

Nelson Burns, an attorney for Grant Edward Enterprises LLC, the firm proposing the center, read a letter from real estate consultant Colliers/Ostendorf-Morris stating Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. has not receive any other viable offers for the property.

He said Grant Edward Enterprises would like to have its CZC approved in November, "so they can proceed to winterize the building the way they'd like."

Lisa Adams Brogan, who said she formerly worked for Portage County Job & Family Services, touted the proposed academy, saying it would provide "a priceless service."

Lori Sallaz, who will be chief operating officer of the academy, said children's services agencies have been the primary source of referrals to such programs, but more family referrals have been seen recently.

She said there would be no impact on local schools, safety forces or the community as a whole......

I read that article this morning and honestly would be a great use of the former hotel. Know lets hope the Aurora doesn't hold this plan up.

Assisted living denial will stand

Aurora -- By a 6-2 count, City Council upheld the planning commission's denial of a conditional zoning certificate so an assisted living facility could operate at the former Geauga Lake Hotel....

Dreher said he believes the city needs to determine what uses are appropriate for the Cedar Fair-owned land so Council doesn't have to go through the appeal process again.

Kovach said other areas of the city are more appropriate for an assisted living facility. Fisher noted he believes the proposed use wasn't comparable to the previous hotel use.

Kudley said Council has spoken twice on the issue, and any firm which might have plans for the property should be aware that it must either locate a hotel or an industrial business there.
